I didn't get to update the Bastards today like I had planned which, in hindsight, was a bad idea as Tuesday and Wednesday are my busiest days. So, sorry about that. It is my goal for tomorrow.

Also, while it isn't required, Syl went ahead and justified his XP purchases based on what his PC went through in the previous chapter. It would be super cool if you guys would draw the in-game links to why you purchased whatever you did. Huge ups to Syl.

Of course, Mae and Wieramuaereu (I'll get the spelling down later) don't need to justify their purchases.

Guys, regarding XP the lowest I want anyone to be is 6,800. I see some discrepancies - especially in Rhone - with low XP. So everyone should AT LEAST be at 6,800. Make sure you are.

Also remember the XP format on PC sheets: (amount available to spend)/(amount spent); both should equal your total XP.

So: 100/400 means you have 100 to spend and have spent 400, making you a 500 XP character. Cool?

I have just gone through everyone's PC sheets and made adjustments to your gear. As you will see, the amounts of some items (like grenades and ammo) have been reduced to reflect the final boss battle on hervara and some items (like the respirators you got for hervara) have been taken off completely.

From an in-game sense, this reflects the fact that the final battle took its toll on your supplies and, more importantly, you no longer function as an Astra Militarum regiment with a steady supply stream. Standard Issue Gear is a thing of the past. From now on, you will have to rely on the quarter master the armsmen are assigned to for gear.

In a practical sense, I have seen a tendency toward gear-grabbing in this game and I am not super stoked about that. From now on, the struggle will be real. Your main weapons and past major acquisitions will remain, but having a ton of grenades, ammo, ordnance, and whatever is going to be tough from here on out. Of course, that can change but it all depends on how well your RP it (the opportunities you find/take advantage of and your ability to acquire shit). Sometimes things just will not be available, regardless of how well you rolled on whatever test. Not every place in the galaxy has a master crafted whatever-the-fuck. You feel me?

Essentially, I want more RP-riddled paths to getting the things you want rather than just finding a quarter master and rolling for ten tons of grenades. Seek out opportunities in-game. It'll be worth it (ie: Ruaidhri and Uallachan and the adepts).

Sorry about the delays, all. I am the discussant this week in my grad seminar, so at least until Tuesday don't expect much from me.

All right, party people. We have some hard decisions to make. One of the main issues I think plaguing this game that we all know and love is that real life is kicking some people pretty hard in the ass. Because this is a military-focused and styled game, it needs a clear-cut leader.

Traditionally, that was Mac_Tonite/Rhone. After that it went to the next in command, Azza/Artur. But both of them have had some real life things that take precedence over gaming. Sadly, this type of game relies on a clear leader to give orders and delegate to the squad.

In addition to this, I have noticed a lack of initiative on the part of players in non-leadership roles as far as posting goes. I don't know if this is because of the change of pace in the game, real life things, or lack of interest. I imagine it is a mixture of the three.

So, before we get to restarting this game, my lovechild, I need to know if people are still interested in playing it. If so, we need to figure out who is going to lead. Now, I am OK with not having a leader, but that means people will need to step up and take more initiative in their posts to get things done.

Having said all that, where is everyone's head/heart at concerning all of this?

I'm definitely still interested in playing this- it has always been an excellent game and I can't wait to see where it is going.

In terms of leadership- I'd hesitate to put Ruaidhri forward- he's always been a bit more of an agitator. Then again it could be interesting rp. Leadership might be the making of him.

I am in. Stubb's could lead. If no one else will step in, he will do so. Maybe like he could act like he is getting orders from Rhone. That could explain his newfound leadership abilities. Then he could grow into it. I am down.

I like the sound of that, but until Stubbs gets back, someone is going to have to take over at the club.

Rook could step in to lead as well. Kind of in a usurper way. He's got the intellect to think he's the logical leader type when there is a vaccuumm. Whether or not the others will follow is a different story lol

In terms of the club group- there's no way Ruaidhri would let Neo take over without big kickback. Hasn't even fired a shot in anger yet. I'd be happy to put him forward for this.

Right. That is definitely another thing to consider, Nik. Wiremu isn't even a Bastard. He would need to put in some serious work to "take command" as it were. There would need to be a much softer approach narratively. Maybe giving really good suggestions that make sense that the group agrees on, rather than any type of orders or commands.

Yeah it would narratively make sense without an a person actually put in command as such there would be a bit of a power struggle with various Bastards trying to influence the group and lead them their particular way. I think on this space station we all have various things we want to do. Ruaidhri and Uallachan would be more keen in getting this servo skull for instance.

Rook and Stubbs could co-rule errr...be co-captains lol. With Rook subtly influencing Stubbs through fancy words or something. Or they could just be two best friends that anyone could have

I know I'm not part of this show yet and the point is perhaps moot while you're on the station, but couldn't whoever is going to be leader be enforced upon the bastards by your new 'employers'?

This would then bypass 'X would never buy it'.

Is the need for a new leader a stop gap or a permanent change? You can only hang on for a player so long and thats not to exclude them but perhaps they're demoted for whatever reason so its not a case of 'hey I'm back, move over stand in leader'.

Well, we have six players still definitely in it to win it by my count:

Responded and Ready to Go:Nitafrong (Ruaidhri), Hydrako (Rook), Sylphilis (Bazin), Donqwaf (Wiremu), MrUozu (Stubbs), and Carnelian (Jules - not yet introduced).

Which means that we have a number out:

No Response: Murcurie (Karsith) and Azza (Artur).

Already Out: Mac_Tonite (Rhone) and Kimberlee (Mae).

Because our leadership is in the latter two categories and we have at least three PCs doing their own thing, someone in each group will need to step up as a player and just make things happen. If we can all agree to that, then I can see starting this back up sooner rather than later.

I think its Bazin and me and then Stubbs, Rook and Wiremu in the other? I'm good to step up and try things in ours.

Im not unwilling to take command ooc, but its absolutely not Bazin, and not in any direction I had planned on taking either.

Rook is away by himself with Wiremu and Stubbs in pursuit. I'm not sure how everyone else is split up back at da cluuuub though. Also, I'm in the Motherland (NZ) once again, and ready to get into some shenanigans.

General Announcement (Important):

I want to direct everyone's attention to the "Meeting Again for the First Time" thread/game. If you haven't read through it yet, you should. This is the type of role play I am looking to move towards in the future.

It is much more narrative based and player driven. For example, I had an encounter set up in which some shit was about to go down. Dave rolled a deceive test, however, and basically convinced the bad guys to fuck off without a shot being fired. This essentially unlocked an entirely new location and characters that I had not at all planned on having. But I want to reward good roleplay like that. Dave not only got some XP, but he also got some benefits he hasn't yet seen. Not to mention, there are now new NPCs to interact with.

This is what I would like the Bastards to become, but it does require more effort on the part of the players outside of point-shoot-repeat.

Give it a read and let me know what you all think. Remember, you're not in the Guard anymore. You're free agents hired out by an eccentric Rogue Trader. The Galaxy is your oyster.

Here's how I did this. You're getting 15 lashes each. Each test represented 5 hits which got progressively more difficult to resist as they are exponentially painful.

Each lash = 1 wound/fatigue. On a failure, you suffer 5 wounds -TB +fatigue.

For Nik, that is 6 wounds and 6 fatigue. Wiremu will be completely passed out by the end of it. He will be long term fatigued now for a while.

For Mark, that is 0 wounds, 2 fatigue. Stubbs takes it like an absolute champ, but it was still somewhat tiring. I will update the IC when I am able.

My body is so ready....

All right, we are officially back in it. I have updated all threads and now it is on the players to respond.

A couple things regarding house cleaning. Now that I have this new job my time has obviously become more limited than before. Let me say first and foremost that I never intend to stop this game. I have also lucked out in that next semester, I will be teaching the exact same class (World History to 1600). So, even though I will be teaching an extra class (6 rather than 5), I won't be spending as much time prepping.

Having said that, it will still take a lot of my free time (grading and what have you). As such, here are some new standard rules to make the game run smoothly:

- Strict 24 hrs posting rule is in effect during combat/structured time. Failure to post within that = loss of action.

- I will not hunt you down to post in the IC. If you are dedicated to playing, you can find the time to check for an update and respond. Failure to do so will simply mean that your side-story/action gets put on the back burner --> less XP/roleplay when all is said and done.

- I will always be OK with anyone wanting to temporarily/permanently retire PCs. As I found out last semester, sometimes you just gotta press pause. Just keep an open channel of communication with me so that nothing gets lost in translation.

- There will be much less micromanaging on my part; I simply don't have time to ensure that all of your XP buys/roll modifiers/stats are in order. Take care to know your PC intimately and ask me if you have questions about anything regarding that.

- I am currently not opening the game up to anymore new players; however, earlier in the year I did extend invitations to previous players who may or may not want to create a new PC. So, at this point if anyone else comes aboard, they will be familiar with how we roll.

Now to the mission at hand. We have spent much more time on this than I had ever intended. If it is all OK with everyone, my goal is to wrap up the current scenes you find yourselves in, and then make a big post pushing us all forward so that we can get on with things and get the band back together.
