Dearbhla Connolly (They/her) Scientist- Surgeon 29 Years Old
Their story: Dearbhla (Pronounced Dervla) was born into a poor struggling family on Taxxon 5, a mining world lit exclusively through artificial means. Occasionally the built up gases would react against each other in the clouds, producing a colourfully artificial approximation of the Aurora Borealis. They were the youngest of four siblings, the rest of whom married young and were content to live their lives within the same community. Dearbhla's mother died early in their life struck down by a degenerative illness that was only passed down through those born female. Dearbhla only had the faintest memories of her. The next oldest memory they had was the desire to escape and be away from Taxxon 5.
Blessed with an ability to memorise information far in excess of her siblings, or indeed any of their contemporaries, they were able to escape the planet on an academic scholarship, though not before it had been confirmed that their mothers illness had been passed on. Off world her studies had gone well, completing her degree in medicine, but due to a mixture of her low birth and disruptive politics they'd struggled to find a residency before eventually signing on with a vessel exploring the Rim. Things had quickly went catastrofied with most of the crew contracting a serious infection which started to eat their flesh. Something was hunting the crew, killing them one by one. Forced to step up into a lead role, Dearbhla found that they thrived away from the rigid hierarchy back in the Core worlds. Eventually after many travails, the ship eventually made it back, with only a quarter of their crew remaining. Two months after docking, Dearbhla published a paper on the infection which was later one of the most read articles in the most reputable academic paper 'Discovery'.
Despite the stress of this maiden voyage, Dearbhla found themselves signing up for expeditions that would take them to the furthest reaches of space. So far their degenerative condition had only started to effect them but with only a limited number of years ahead they wished to give themselves the most chance of discovery and getting the chance to cut open new life and discover exactly how they worked. Socially they live life in the same way, enjoying all the experiences they can. Through necessity their relationships with others tend to be short, but they love with full open honesty.
