| Should I be keeping everything OOC including dice rolls and such in this thread? I'm new to PbP, sorry if I'm missing basic etiquette. Climbing:I am taking 10 on an Accelerated Climb, so with my climb speed I climb 40 ft/round with a 14.Edit: Since I did not specify accelerated, the first round was 20 ft, and the second should put me at the top. So, 2 rounds. Knowledge (Nature): 10

| There are 2 men with whips, right? The guy on deck who woke us up and has a normal one, and the first mate with the cat-o-nine? Which is Mr. Plugg, and which is Mr. Scourge? | |

| For OOC location, either or, but mainly here. Sometimes it’s helpful if you’re asking about a particular thing or making a roll for something without asking to put an ooc note in your IC posts, but we try to keep them separate. | |

| I don't usually mind as part of the thread if you're just asking for a knowledge check or the like. When the results of the roll will change your post, it's usually better to ask here.
Mr Plugg is the one with the Cat', and is on a higher deck. Scourge 'just' has a whip, and is on your level.

| I'm going to make a few more climb checks at once, to see how many rounds it takes me to get up. 10, 5, 13. So I fall at 15ft up and get to start again? I'll keep rolling until I make the climb. its 40ft, my move is 30, so it should take 3 successes. at half speed. https://orokos.com/roll/78203019 (nat 20), 13, 1. So I should get it on round 6, circumstances permitting. https://orokos.com/roll/782031 | |

| I don't quite know what you are expecting here. There was a reason I did state that you would start the game pressganged, and that not all encounters can be solved by just fighting.
You can almost certainly escape if you can swim, they can only take you down with missile fire. You could justify to yourself that it's better to be captured now so you can try to help everyone escape later. I will tell you that the goal of the first adventure is to improve your position, but I'm not going to change the basic personality of the rulers of the ship - that changes the whole adventure, not just a simple change of character, and I'd have to do a lot more rewriting than I really have time for.

| Dawns on me this is happening under the assumption of time. Quequek taking 20 at 2 minutes the first test would get up 10 ft. After that I can not take twenty on a test to climb the rest of the way because falling carries damage at that point and can not make it on a take ten. So, statistically Quequek is rather likely to just knock himself out from damage caused by falling as well as a much smaller chance he just dies from unlucky fall damge. Can we assume he managed to climb the first 5 while everyone else was finishing and just slid back down and approached the current situation while attention was on the recalcitrant crew member? Otherwise, I will edit the post to just say rat continues to attempt to fulfill his orders and make the rolls to see if he dies or not. | |

Sorry - having a lot of trouble following for some reason. If I need to make climb tests, how many should I roll? Because that seems as though it will be faster/more fun.

| Well, I guess she will be knocked out eventually. I guess I didnt understand the extent of what press-ganging involved. I tried finding a non-violent alternative, but if they aint willing to hear anything things are gonna be hard.
For now, I'll wait for the reaction to QueQuek

| We'll skip to the next phase, with everyone down again. Amanzi easily came first, followed by Sakana.
Once you fall, you are stopped from climbing again.
Alternative summoning is allowed. My first reaction upon seeing Summon Monster X was 'how did he manage to get 10th level spells????'

Is moving on going to skip over this rp? I feel like we're at the climax right now, and I don't want to skip Kat falling to her death in the first 5 seconds.
But in all seriousness I don't think we're in a spot to skip right now, not with the position Katarina has put herself in.

| On the weekend, I will be posting a topic keeping these rules in one place, but for now...
The lookout requires a DC 10 climb check, and a DC 10 perception check. Due to the stress of the situation, you can only take 10 on these checks if you have a feature that always allows you to take 10 on these checks.
No check required for Alyra today.
Swab the decks: DC 10 strength or constitution check.Failure indicates you are fatigued.
Haul ropes: DC 10 Profession (sailor) or strength check. Must also make DC 10 con check to avoid fatigue.
Runner: Requires DC 10 acrobatics and DC 10 con check. Failing con check results in fatigue.
Repairs: Requires DC 10 Profession (Sailor) or dex check.
Note, none of these can you take 10 on.
Please see next post for actions you can do beyond your ship tasks.

| I will cover night actions when we get to night-time!
Work diligently: +4 to any one check made in pursuit of ship tasks. Influence: Attempt to influence one NPC. Sneak: Briefly explore one area of the ship Shop: Take -2 penalty on all tasks, and visit the quartermaster Shirk: Take -2 penalty on all tasks, and take time exploring one area of ship. Can take 10 on perception, but must make check to avoid being discovered.

| Well, in the crow's nest I'm isolated and in full view of everyone, so I'll stick to my assigned task and wait for nightfall. Climb: Take 10: 19
Perception, working diligently: 14From my vantage point, I'm also observing the crew dynamics. What is the pecking order among the existing crew, how quick are Scourge and Plugg to ply their whips, does Harrigan make another appearance, are there any crew paid unusual deference or avoidance, etc? Perception: 10or Sense Motive: 19if needed for crew observation.

| Swab the Decks!: 1d20+1 18Sakana swabs the shit out of them decks. Will Influence an NPC. Not sure who my choices are, but Mr. Plugg seems like a good candidate. Sakana will once again attempt to let them know that he is a pretty good navigator... on account of being a fish. Let me know what this entails roll wise or if it's simply good ol' RPing. | |

| You will have a better idea of who to influence after the end of the first day; but it will be done through diplomacy tests - and RP. Depending on how you approach someone, may give advantages or disadvantages, though not game-breaking either way. Unless your way of approaching someone is the stupidest way possible to approach a particular NPC.
I will give a wrap-up of the first day tomorrow night, which will also include a sticky post about who is on the Wormwood. I will give you a freebie based on your and Amanzi's actions that the officers will be, for the most part, unapproachable as allies, though there are a couple of exceptions.

| Okay, usually I would pay more attention to the diplomatic attempts of Sakana and Queqek, but for now I just want to get through the first day, and this post out.
Night-time actions: Sleep early: Automatically remove any fatigue Gamble: Play or gamble on a game of chance or pirate entertainment Entertain: Make one perform check to entertain crew Influence: Same as during day. Sneak: Take 20 for perception in one area, but must make stealth checks to avoid being discovered Steal: Attempt to open locked door or locker. Again, checks to avoid being discovered.
Now, do you want a list of all NPCs on the ship, or would you prefer to find these as time goes by, and figuring out who you can influence in that way?
There is more to come for what is happening this night; just leaving it as this for now.

| I'll get those NPCs in a new thread this weekend with any luck.
Sakana, you get your holly and mistletoe back, and Queqek, you get your formula book back.
Also, you need to state what you do with your rum ration, and make a perception check if you're watching the punishment closely.
If by chance you do not have a rank in profession sailor, please make a fortitude save.

| Well you can tip it out, or throw it overboard.
Also, with your perception, you get the feeling Scourge is getting real pleasure out of the punishment he just doled out.
Neither Qekqek nor Alyra can make much headway with their diplomacy, though neither get the impression they've annoyed the person either.
No approaching Grok at night for your stuff - that needs to wait till morning. I just need night actions from everyone at this point.

| Results of the rum: DC 5 fortitude save to avoid becoming addicted. 1d4 alchemical bonus to charisma, but you are fatigued for the next few hours - which is how long the bonus lasts. You also take some con damage; I'll roll that secretly. I will let you know if you still have some damage in the morning.
Any of you who have not drunk by the time you meet with Sandara, are warned that the punishment for not drinking or tipping out rum is a whipping.
I'll give another day or two for night actions, at that point any who have not posted an action will be assumed to drink the rum and just go to sleep early.

| Purify food and drink can work on the rum, but someone seeing you cast it may have repercussions.
Gambling: Firstly, you need money. Secondly, the following games are available, though they are dangerous.
Arm-Wrestling: Except it's usually with the loser's arm being driven into spikes. Hog lob: Throwing iron ingot covered in greased pig skin as far across deck as possible. Heave: Drink rum until only one is left standing.
You are free to try to convince the others to try any other game if you wish.
Perform and diplomacy checks, even with the rum, not quite enough for anyone to make a friend.

Gambling not an option as no-one actually has any money yet.
