On the Edge of Expanion (OOC)

In relation to my IC, my intention is to scout ahead some 100 metres or so from the TX5 for about 5 minutes. If we're all good I'll get back in the TX5 and off we go.

You guys are definitely all good. I'll await your ICs to see how you proceed.

I am feeling like you guys may be losing interest in roleplaying this section. If so, I am ready to just move it forward.

I'm good with doing more rp but I'm not really getting too many replies recently to what Vra'fa has been saying. If given the chance she will talk the blind leg off a donkey.

I will say this - I am very laissez faire when it comes to the pace of the game. This is your guys' game and I want you to make the most out of your posts. That is the biggest benefit of PbP gaming over sit down. I really don't see the point of a one line post on a PbP game, so I don't encourage that; take these opportunities to explore these characters that you have put so much time into.

Having said that, I will also move the game along at your pace. I will only rush things forward if we are slowing to a crawl with no posts.

SO... all that is to say that how/when/where things go is up to you guys. I will leave the breadcrumbs.

I'm open for rushing forward. I've been waiting for a decision to be taken (it isnt elanro's habit to lead) but I believe we need someone to clearly take the initiative; if no-one is interested, Elanro can, but he's a reluctant leader.

Think it was more about beeing more creative and descriptive about the story progress not about a missing leader in the group. I need to improve this as well. Its a learning process for me as this is my first rpg/pbp and i need longer as english is not my native language. ^^

This is 100% what I was getting at. Well said, Litschi. Essentially, we should be doing our best to create an immersive experience with each post. I think the leadership thing will come naturally IC. So, I am not too worried about that.

I think that you guys can, and should, always be discussing what to do next here in the OOC or on LINE, as a group too.

This way no one is sitting around hoping someone else will take the reigns, as I have seen happen all too often.

I love the IC right now, guys. Such good posts. Thanks again, Litschi for the amazing art. It is really adding an element to the story we have yet to see on the site.

Going by the DH2 updated Degree Rules, that is actually 6 DoF. 1 for the fail, and then by ten from there. Basically, 0 degrees doesn't exist anymore. So, all in all that is 3 damage after your toughness. Not bad.

Bob, I forgot to mention that when the game moves into combat-time, the IC closes. Once I have everyone's initiative, I will call for actions and update the IC via large block rounds. Hearing Elanro's voice quite close to her right, Vra'fa assumed that he was nearby and in a similar situation to her. From what he had said though, either Gorthrax or Na'no had managed to get free. Such news was reassuring, and help slightly calm the beating in her chest. Still though, she felt a chill go through her.

Closing her eyes she tried to calm herself and concentrate on what she could feel and hear. What exactly had made the web shake like that? Her instinct was to try and pull herself free, to get away from whatever was up there, but her earlier attempt had proved her true helplessness. There was no way for her to get free. The best thing she could do was to remain still and try and learn as much as she could. But instead of calming her, closing her eyes seemed to make everything worse. Her thoughts seemed to be pressing into her head, constricting it. And all the while her heart seemed to be trying to break through her ribs. Come on Vra'fa, she thought, you have to relax. You are no worth to anyone like this.

All right, let me get an action and IC from Carn. Per her instructions before she went AFK, when it comes to Na'no's turn, she will be hiding and considering her options. Full move/run to back behind the TX5.

It was embarrassing, to be caught so easily; lulled to a false sense of security by the gentle floating plants. Perhaps the shaded light and the speed of their vehicle had made the web all but invisible. He bet Angpak would have seen it.

Gorthrax had naturally struggled initially but when he felt movement on the web, instinct kicked in.

His wiry muscles strain and he bucks against against the web, the feral strength of his kind proving superior. Gorthrax tears himself free and falls to the ground.

That's actually 6 DoS when you take your unnatural strength talent into account. It should be noted, however, that in DH2, Unnatural traits don't add a +10 to tests like they do in Deathwatch. I am not convinced that the Deathwatch rule needs to change, necessarily. So, for now let's keep it. Strong is strong.

Another thing I definitely should have mentioned earlier, unless your weapons or gear was strapped to your body, it has been tossed in the crash. Off of the top of my head, this would be Elanro's rifle and Gorthrax's hunting rifle.

Introducing a new friend for you all the play with

1/2 move (10m) down from floating trees and will begin spinning up Elanro in a nice cozy blanket. I am not entirely sure how to do this - somewhat winging it. I am going to say that after a full round of this, you count as being an extra level of ensared. So, if this were happening on open ground, it would need to be initiated as a grapple and then after one full round you'd be suffering the effects of Snare (1). Since you are already in a Snare (3) setting, after halfway through the next round, you will be effectively at Snare (4). Eventually (soon) you won't be able to escape at all without outside help or an extremely good roll (1 - 5 always passes).

Hope that makes sense. If it doesn't I will elaborate more.

Gorthrax glanced up at the green carapaced arachnid as it wrapped Elanro in its web and the thought of the creature delivering its coup de grace to the snared Tau flashed across his mind. Such creatures were often poisonous. He once again saw Angpak's disapproving stare when he heard that Gorthrax had lost one of his charges. Even if it was a fire warrior who should be able to look after himself.

Looking left and right he spies his hunting rifle, there was no concern that it might be damaged. They were built sturdily and were designed to used in melee and with a Kroots great strength. As Gorthrax rushes towards the weapon he considers what to do when he gets it into his hands; a carefully placed shot might scare the beast away and as he didn’t fancy getting entangled in the web again made that plan look more agreeable.

I think with my luck I should use a fate point. Will use the "+10 on skill check" option, with the homeworld boost to +20.

Elanro struggles to escape with that creature approaching to encase him in further webbing. This seemed like quite an ignominious way to die, as a snack. And the kids where running away like headless chickens. His mind went to dark places of despair, but only long enough to remember how he had escaped that ork that tried to bear-hug him to death. Unsocketing his joints, he moved his arms to take advantage of the slight space left by the webbing, fibers taught and kept away from the more flexible area due to the rigid armor. No dying today. He used what limited stamina he had left to make a tactical move to cover.

The web was quivering around her, ripples of movement shaking her attached limbs. Fighting back against the urge to open her eyes or to try and rip herself free, Vra'fa concentrated on her breathing. She wasn't strong enough to break free, her original attempt had made that clear. Any additional attempt would only tire or injure her. Also there was a small chance if she didn't move that she might avoid the creatures attention for a while. Spiders on her home world sensed their prey via movement in the web itself. Her companions were all larger, stronger and more experienced than she was. She would place her trust in them. All she could do now was to try and learn what little she could.

However the information coming through to her was all so confusing. There was the sound of something slithering, like fabric rubbing against itself, heavy footfalls and deep breathing. And the steadily increasing rhythm of her heart. You have to fight this, she chanted to herself, you cannot give into the panic. Her companions were coming for her.

Left arm armor alone is enough to soak that. I only just realized now that Elanro is the group's "tank" in traditional RPG terms. You're the most up-armored member of the group. It is kind of badass seeing A firewarrior in a group of Tau actually be the tank. In typical 40k games, you'd just be another infantry soldier, hardly different than anyone else in the grand scheme of things. This clear differentiation makes me happy.

Na'No hides behind the TX5. She tries to melt into the surroundings. Be invisible! she speaks to herself. Art'ol was still rooted to the TX.

Na'No hears a dull sound. She scouted Elanro gets himself free and goes into cover thinking to herself: A true fire warrior. No need to cut him free of course. Her view wanders over to the terrifically shadow which forms the outer lines of a spider. She glances at Vra'Fa, also to far away to help her directly. Thinking of the versatile Fire Warriors and what Shadowsun would do she feels her Pulse Pistole on her waist. Come on, you can do it! She hold up the gun aiming the spider-shadow. She even uses both her hands to hold the weapon straight. Na'No quivers with emotions. Even though her surroundings were quite cold she could feel cold sweet on her frontal. She triggered the Pulse Pistol. A Shimmering light shot through the dark environment. Nothing happens.

Fire warrior armor is surprisingly good all in all. As good as the high-cost human carapace armor. And yes, I soak it all!

The sound of the shot startled Vra'fa and her eyes shot open. However she could still not see anything of interest. Her head was still immobilised and all the could see were the floating flora. There was an odd juxtaposition between such a formally calming sight and the fear currently coursing through her. Who had taken the shot? Who was free and who was still caught in the web? Moments later there was another sound and then Elanro spoke. The web continued to vibrate, except they were much greater in force now. She couldn't be sure, but a part of her was screaming that there was something nearby, somewhere in the darkness beyond her vision behind her. The hair stood up on her arms and she felt lightheaded as adrenaline pumped through her. But she couldn't do anything. Couldn't fight or fly. She was helpless and still, letting fate drag her away without a murmur. Or was she.

Closing her eyes for a second to gather herself, she stared down at the Polyglot Hedron still tucked into the belt of her robes, resting above her stomach. She wasn't sure what language these things might speak, she couldn't even see them. But she had to hope that it would be able to translate what she said to something they could understand.

"You don't want to continue" she spoke quietly down at her device.
"We are not your prey. If you move back noone will get hurt."
