General OOC

Hi all!

Finally ready to get started. Here's a place where you can ask me any questions and clarify anything OOC, or just chat about the game.

Some things I'd like to note before the game:

I really enjoy doling out information secretly to different members of the party. You each have different lore, investigation, deduction and awareness skill levels, so you'll each notice things that others may not and vice versa. As such, there will probably be occasions when I message you directly with some information your character knows that the other characters or some of the party does NOT know.

So that's where it gets interesting - what you do with said information and whether or not you share it with the party is totally up to you. You can share it in full, share some of it, hide some of it, distort the truth, or blatantly lie about it. I don't care, it's up to you and what your PC would do. Of course, you're working on a team, so it's probably in your best interest to share in full, but hey, maybe your PC has other motives...

That's it for me for now.

Expectations for the game:

Please post at least once a week, and let me know if something comes up in RL that prevents you from doing so. If you don't post once a week and I don't hear anything from you, I'll give you a warning, if I still don't hear anything from you, I may drop you from the game.

I'll post minimum once a week (unless something comes up), but if time allows it I will always aim for updating more regularly.

Apparently I never actually posted my character sheet before I closed the tab. When I get the heart to remake it I'll post it again, probably some time tomorrow.

First off, well done! Starting strong!

Would I be able to clarify what exactly comes under "winter weather gear", at least before making requisitions? And, seeing as I'm still feeling pbp out, is that question something that would normally be done IC?

I have no idea what I could possibly need to requisition.  I have my trusty singing servo skull and a stub revolver to put down any demons we come across.

Got the bead, but no grimdark space camera.

Winter weather gear: clothing to keep you warm and not dying of frostbite if you're outside for 8 hours or so. Rugged, waterproof boots and pants for trudging through several feet of snow without getting soaked.

Casual gear for getting through a Michigan winter

Nothing special like ice climbing gear or whatnot.

Bob, I was thinking about attempting to requisition a monotask servo-skull that would aid in any hacking (security) attempts. I do have a multikey that gives +20 to security attempts involving locks, so unless that covers electronic hacking, the servo skull would be cool.

Well shit, I guess I should ask first - would hacking fall under tech use or security?


EDIT: Personally, I think Tech Use is already the catch all for too much shit. Security (which now includes demolitions) would be my pick for hacking.

Agreed on all points. Don't think multikey covers hacking, finding a servo skull to help with that is fine with me, and I agree that we can put it under security (tho that's weird af that it now includes demo).

@theoretical -

I'm thinking they would have checked your weapons at the door, as you're low level acolytes and new recruits for the Inquisition - still no 100% guarantees that you can be trusted, and Torquemada, like any Inquisitor, is a big deal and surely a prime target for assassination. Better safe than sorry.

That said, I don't think it really matters beyond flavor reasons since I don't think you were planning on using it anyway

I agree. The more I think about it, the more demolitions should just be its own skill with Tech/Int aptitudes.

Yo, so I thought it was in DH2, but apparently getting bonuses for requisitions based population of the location one is attempting to acquire them in is in the Rogue Trader CRB (pg. 113). DH2 CRB simply mentions it is up to the GM to give bonuses/penalties based on location.

So, before I make the requisitions test, is the Hive City granting any bonuses to requisition?

Secondly, as an aside, unless someone requests it from Felyx, he isn't readily sharing any of the info he acquired about the base itself. Not necessarily because he is an info-hoarder, but more because I feel like that is a nice way to force some RP.

I was angling towards having a planning meeting esque thing on the ship ride over, where everyone dumps information and ideas. There's a couple of ways we can approach this research station, although Alistair's probably only going to think of one of those.

If you would prefer someone directly asking Felyx, or don't like the idea of a planner meeting, then sure.

I think people should approach it however their characters would. Planning it out here (OOC) is a bit too meta for my tastes. I just wanted to give the heads up that Felyx is uploading the data onto his data-slate and not saying a word about it until it comes up IC.

Considering it, but it's currently fighting for survival suit and frag grenades for my two requisition spots. Of which, I could get nothing.

If in doubt, I can just set my servo-skulll to really loud, that way I can communicate with you all.
I'm sure that there will be no downsides to this.

its been pointed out that i get 3 free acquisitions at creation of scarce or less.
Ill take the rebreather and the slaught i rolled for. For the final I will take concealed holster.

That prompted me to check my inventory list. I may have gotten a microbead when I already have a heavier, longer range voxcaster. Who wants a present?

I'm granting you all +10 on all req tests because you're in a very populated hive.

Meanwhile, can each of you please post here any negative modifiers for rarity for items you requisitioned or tried to requisition?

I'd rather just have you post it than look up every last item myself.

EDIT: If anyone successfully passes a deceive check or something similar, you can waive the subtlety penalty for one item (for both items if you get 3 DoS or more).

Your subtlety won't affect how anyone views you at the research facility, but I've half a mind to run the next adventure in Hive Scintilla, if I ever get to it.

both of my doodads were average rarity, but my big ol' preach party could drop subtlety. It's not explicitly inquisitorial, but people might recognise me if I become a popular preacher

Eh, I'll let it slide for now. Like you said it's not inquisitorial and truthfully, being a big hive city, someone speaking up and preaching to the masses is probably far from unusual. Heck, even in my small city we get kooky people preaching on street corners...

Besides, it was some nice role playing, and I'm always keen to make rulings more favorably when that's the case. Maybe someone or another will recognize you down the road though, for better or for worse...

Eh. I personally think of subtlety to factor in a lot more than simply your clothing or gear. It's your reputation, and a reflection of your interactions with the population of a given location. You haven't done anything on Scintilla or this hive yet, really.

There's also a big difference between Donna's wild appearance and having clothing with the inquisition symbol decorated all over it. Right now I'm assuming none of your clothing is decorated to even hint at your employment or associations with Torquemada or the inquisition. Being ostentatious individuals is nothing to bat an eyelash at in a hive.

It's more about how subtle your ties to the inquisition are than how subtle you are in general. Cults and gangs and the like don't care if you wear bright colors and are loud in public. They care about those that would investigate them.

If you want to modify your clothing, then I'll adjust subtlety accordingly. But I don't think bright colors or loud servo skulls in a hive city changes anything. I doubt a hive ganger and a zealous preacher would stand out much at all, honestly.

The Inquisition sigil must be really easily mistaken I bet. It has the same =][= column that EVERY imperial organisation uses, but to set it aside, it has a skull, which are even more widespread.

I agree. Though I imagine a lot of people don't know exactly what it is even. Or have just heard rumors.

But you can bet your ass anyone involved in a cult save for the lowest level wise guys know and fear the symbol.

When in doubt, throw a Molotov and call it a day.

Standard Guard Operating procedure. Assume Hostile, blow them up. If they weren't hostile, well, they aren't proving you wrong anytime soon.

If they move, they're heretics. If they stand still, they're well-disciplined heretics.

Heads up that I'm waiting to update the IC until we get everyone up to speed. Making sure murc and Morgan/Dave have a chance to req stuff and RP some in the hive as well as ask Torquemada questions before we leave.

No rush murc since we'll be waiting on Morgan/Dave anyway. Just want to make sure the whole party is assembled before we advance.

Requisitoning a Mono Spear. Technically I want a glaive, but spear was the closest entry.
Common +10 for the glaive, Scarce -10 for the mono attachment. Am I doing this right?

Don't take my word for it but I think the spear and mono upgrade are two separate thingies, but that seems to me like a terrible rule and better changed.

Adding the penalty for the mono to the single requisition test seems like a good compromise - at least in this case. Ultimately up to GM, of course.

I felt like the two should go together in the specific case of the mono attachment, since it doesn't make sense that it could be (un)installed like most other attachments.
