| Hey everyone. First thread woohoo! Anyway here are the choices you must make for faction status stuff...
The Fog Hounds are a crew of rough smugglers looking for a patron. They currently claim to run the show when it comes to smuggling weird and arcane artifacts. They don't seem happy that you are in this business at all, but they will let you continue it so long as you pay them off...
Your choices are to pay them 1 coin to maintain neutral status, pay them 2 coin to get +1 status, or pay them nothing and get -1 status.
The Grinders are a gnarly, vicious gang of former workers from the docks and leviathan blood refineries. They helped you get your boat in a unfortunately violent heist. The boat they stole used to belong to the Gondoliers. You asked the grinders not to hurt anyone, but they turned over a boat with a few bloodstains and shrugged "sorry," smiling and looking none too apologetic.
So you will start with +1 status with the grinders (with the option to pay 1 coin to bump that to +2) and -2 status with the gondoliers (with the option to pay 1 coin to bump that to -1).
The Dimmer Sisters are a group of mysterious, house-bound recluses with an occult reputation. They are not a fan of your contact Nyelle, for reasons you don't quite understand as of this writing. You'll take -1 status with them.
The Circle of the Flame is a secret society of scholars that's really a cover for extortion, grafts, and other unpleasant crimes. In contrast to the Dimmer Sisters, they have a good relationship with Nyelle - you don't know why. You'll take +1 status with them, with the option to bump that to +2 to take -2 instead of -1 with the Dimmer Sisters.
P.S. I am thinking of adding faction trackers and info on obsidian portal, but I'm not quite certain yet. I will probably tinker with it and see if I find it useful, or if I can make do on this site and keep everything in one place. Regardless I will have that information up soon so you can keep track of your status with other factions. _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."

| I'm going to post this in the log thread as well, but your payoff for this score will be:
2 rep - you didn't really have a "target" with this job so I'm not going to make it any lower or higher. I think for a smooth, quiet job like this 2 rep seems about appropriate.
6 coin. Standard job seems appropriate, and the Grinders were eager to get this key piece of arcana and avoid having it confiscated or drawing the attention of the bluecoats. You saved them a lot of trouble.
1 heat seems about right, plus the 1 heat from the attention stev drew during his study of the patrols. _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."

| So, downtime vice has been fulfilled - fighting pits. As I understand the rules, I don't need to roll for that; however, a second downtime activity - tinkering with say a mechanical glove that fits around his hand and allows him to hit someone with electroplasmic energy... that WOULD require rolls, yes (and obviously a progress clock)? | |

| So you actually do need to roll whenever you take the "indulge vice" downtime action, but also, trust me that you do not want to take that action in the first place. We will leave that scene as a purely narrative bit for now and not represent it mechanically.
As for crafting/inventing, it's honestly probably best to just read that section first. You'll have to invent it first, but you have to answer some questions about what the invention is and what it does, etc. etc. Page 224.
It would indeed require rolls, a study roll and it would be at least an 8-part progress clock, if not 10 since that sounds like a pretty advanced/unique artifact for the setting. _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."

| So I feel like I need a little more direction from Jay and Theo on what you're hoping to glean from these rolls. Jay I am presuming you are trying to sense any supernatural entities or energies from the house? Theo, are you surveying the streets, behavior of the bluecoats, observing the house...?
W/ gather information rolls I need a bit of input on where specifically you are focusing on observing or studying or trying to get more information on. What has your attention? _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."

| Couple things:
Can you clarify what time of day you are performing this operation? Obviously it is dark around the clock but a couple things might affect your situation -
We can use a standard 12 and 12 hour clock right now to keep things simple. 8 am - 6pm are "business hours" - when most people are awake and about, when legitimate businesses operate, and so forth.
Dawn is about 7 a.m., Dusk is 7 p.m. Both of have a short twilight period where it is a little lighter, followed by "the blind hour."
Just after dawn and again at twilight, the city is usually blanketed in a thick fog that obscures street lights and ruins visibility in the darkness. Many people habitually take a break during these times, staying indoors with a cup of tea to wait out the “blind hour."
Last but not least, can everyone in the party clarify where their PC is and what they are doing when you have a second?
IE, is whitepaws with ash and rake, or is he holding back?
I know its been night time for Theo but also want to know where stev is and what he's up to when he has a moment. _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."

| Apologies. I always read the IC first and then the OC so as to clarify/know what's going on, but as you can now see, Whitepaws is sticking with Ash and Rake, at least until we are inside and decide to split up.
I defer to the party on what time of day it is. After the Blind Hour was the consensus in LINE? That sounds good to me.

| So Marius senses all sorts of strange stuff going on in the ghost field here, it's hardly a surprise that he felt it from the street. Demonic presences, restless spirits contained in various objects, and even an item that seems to be drawing spirits to the house. It's actually a lot to take in at once opening as you attune your mind to the field, it's a wealth of information but fairly disorienting and uncomfortable and overwhelming. Best of all, Marius gets a vision of a emerald gem contained in a red box. Marius gets the sense that this gem in particular is red-hot with the attention of spirits, overflowing with some arcane power and yet associated with a long history of tragedies and disaster. It is undoubtedly the item that Mr. Gaunt tasked you with acquiring - and it is located in the northwestern most room on the first floor (you are on the ground floor). I am attaching a map that might help you figure out the layout of the house. You are in the northeastern-most room on the ground floor. Just imagining the map as north on the top, south in the bottom, west on the left, east on the right. _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."

| Since the back entrance was largely void of Bluecoats, would it be doable to have a flashback wherein Whitepaws (who was prowling) set up a thin ladder to just below each window on the first floor on the north side.
They wouldn't be too conspicuous if they were typical ladders used by households to clean out rain gutters/wash windows/etc. But they would allow for an easy second ("first," damn you, Europe) floor escape.

| As mentioned on LINE, I am going to fill in 2 portions of a 3 part clock for "picking the lock." Consequence is you hear footsteps on the stairs.
You only need one more roll of limited effect with finesse to pick the lock...but its now desperate/limited. Another consequence will likely be the bluecoats finding you.
(You could try to barricade the door to slow/block their approach, or prepare for a fight, or throw the chest out the window to break it open, or smash it now, although the latter two would be noisy). _________________ "Don't mess with me, lady. I've been drinking with skeletons."
