Eifa will swear an iron vow to rid the village of this curse that has befallen them.

When you swear upon iron to complete a quest, write your vow and give the quest a rank. Then, roll +heart. If you make this vow to a person or community with whom you share a bond, add +1.

BTW pro tip - if you type a semicolon between rolls, you can use multiple rolls at once.

I envision to complication to be a surprisingly large number of tracks as well as a campsite recently abandoned. Perhaps simply a wandering band of nomads moving through the area, or maybe raiders who have taken villagers. There might be a dozen of them, definitely too many to take in a fight. But the tracks do lead deeper into the wilderness.

Lol fucked up hard on that gather information. +2 for wits and +1 for acting within a community I share a bond with but still no luck....miss.

On a miss, your investigation unearths a dire threat or reveals an unwelcome truth that undermines your quest. Pay the Price.

Will take a minute to reflect on what this could be, but my gut reaction is that someone within the village is assisting the outside threat. So basically, we'll have to confront a fellow villager about why they're fucking us over.

Or maybe I discover some new threat....like I find out that it's worse than we thought somehow. Not sure

Eifa will roll to "Compel" Ghalen though charm and diplomacy, using +heart. I'm gonna say Ghalen's not a member of the refugee clan, so I have no bonus from sharing a bond with him.

So we need to figure out: A.) what ghalen wants from us, and B.) what info he gives us in exchange.

Cool! You are racking up a lot of momentum - that should come in handy.

My gut reaction on Ghalen is that he insists that we not harm him or tell anyone what hes done. Like he makes us promise this, maybe swear on the gods, before he shares his story. That puts us in a dramatic situation where maybe he reveals some awful, terrible story about his actions, but our hands our bound...

I imagine roughly that Ghalen did it somehow because he felt forced to do this for the good of himself or his family or the village? Like perhaps he swore a dark pact with some sorcerors or witches that in return for a few villagers, they would keep us from starving over the winter? Just spitballing here.

I can "take point" on IC for a minute and describe Ghalen's speech or you can - doesn't matter to me

I will be taking momentum once and we can't really benefit from anything else on here but +1 momentum is still nice.

Hey guys. I'm still not entirely certain when I need to be making rolls for actions; I think it'll take a bit of getting used to.
If you notice something that Harmast needs to roll for then would you mind pointing it out until I get the gist of the system?

Yeah, the moves are a lot more broad than most other rpgs. You roll them whenever you do something with an uncertain outcome. You roll two d10 that are the "challenge dice" and then roll 1d6+relevant modifier which is your "action die." If your action roll is higher than both challenge dice, its a strong hit. If its higher than only one die its a weak hit. If its lower than both its a miss. Each move specifies the outcome of each result

If you download the whole zip file from online there should be a couple documents called "Rules Reference" and "Moves reference" that condenses things.

It might be beneficial to have Harmast to make a "Reach destination" move to see what awaits us in the cave.

What would I be rolling to make sense of the map and/or guide us safely to the cave? Perhaps better if Temura takes the lead as guide?

I'll post something up real quick. I asked the oracle and got a good idea.

PS, should we have marked progress for figuring out what the deal with Ghalen was? Keep in mind that we will need to have marked 6-7 progress at a minimum probably to complete our quest here, if not closer to 10.

I guess in general a "Gather Information" move would be what you'd roll to decipher it, and an "Undertake Journey" move is what you'd take to follow it?

Is that a roll +wits? How would I enter that in Orokos?

"1d10; 1d10; 1d6+1" would be how I'd do it.

Also a good move to make in the morning is to use your Devotant asset to try to gain momentum

That means I do not have initiative either. Let me think about how I am going to pay the price here....I am going to say my shot goes wide and the enemy closes in on me so that I have to draw my knife and fight in hand to hand combat (which I am bad at).

Perhaps this would be a good time for Harmast to enter combat and Secure an Advantage to support either Temura or Eifa?

Reinforcements arrive!

I figured I'd make a public post so everyone can be involved in the discussion. Right now we've got T.Bit, but I think there might be one more coming from reddit as well.

For the new players: The one thing we decided before beginning of the game is that all the PCs would have once belonged to a settlement that was destroyed by a wyvern many years ago. The ultimate long term goal of the game will be to recover our clan's ancestral artifact so our exiled people will no longer be "cursed".

Regarding when new characters can enter the game, I think they should probably be able to jump right in. We could explain it as the new characters either traveling through the woods and notice the combat, or just handwave it and say they've been there since the beginning.

Eifa will attempt to strike back with the Clash move. She'll use her Sunderer asset as well, to take -1 momentum in exchange for +1 harm.

Raider takes 3 harm, but Eifa must pay the price. Rolled some dice to determine the price, I've decided that the raider deliberately left himself open to the attack to provoke Eifa into a reckless assault. He grabs her axe, now she must either drop it or wrestle him for it.

I don't know if y'all have had a chance to check out the Lodestar reference guide available for Ironsworn (link here), but it has this chart that I just found that I found super helpful.

I know Ironsworn rules fairly well at this point but sometimes I have a hard time keeping track of when to use what actions in combat.

A weak hit for enter the fray lets you either take +2 momentum or take initiative - but you have to choose one or the other.

Actually I was just scrolling through all of the stuff posted here to make sure I had the right harm total down - for reference TBit you actually do 2 harm if you're armed with a typical weapon. You only do 1 harm if you're using an improved weapon like a rock or a shield or something like that.

So that puts us at 8 total harm, right? Eifa has dealt 6 harm total (3 harm on 2 different hits), while Gisla has dealt 2.

We can either try to finish the fight now or I can loose another arrow at one of these guys just to give us some peace of mind....

Going to also turn the tide here and then immediately roll to secure an advantage. Using my archer talent to line up a shot for this raider's throat with my bow -

secure an advantage by aiming before shooting with arrow: 1d10 5 1d10 7 1d6+2+1 8

Cool so I take +2 momentum overall, nice.

Also going to make another move (Strike) with a +1 per my Secure an Advantage results...

This foe is no longer in the fight. They are killed, out of action, flee, or surrender as appropriate to the situation and your intent (Ask the Oracle if unsure).

Not sure if we just want to slaughter both, take one captive, etc...I imagine that my last arrow shot definitely killed the one I attacked.
