Live one shot

How do you do, fellow heretics?

Sorry I’ve been AWOL from the forums for a while, work’s been zany. I’ve got a couple days vacation coming up around the week of Oct 11 and I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in getting together for a live one shot game sometime via Roll20/Skype/Discord/carrier pigeon. My schedule is wide open for several days that week, so I can work with the time zone differences to some extent.

Possibly interested depending on system, game, setting etc.!

System: Stars Without Number
Setting: A corner of my home brew Wandering Black setting
Basic premise: You’re all veterans of a loose cannon mercenary company sent on a mission of personal interest to the company’s commanding officer to recover a VIP. Even mix of combat/rp/exploration. Since it’s a one shot, the focus will be more on high octane action and hijinks rather than deep characterization

Just some more context, kinda conceptualizing the one shot like the expendables or fast and furious. The more over-the-top badass the characters, the better.

I would certainly be interested, but time difference plays a trick on me usually. I'm in GMT+2/GMT+1 depending on the time of the year. Therefore for me only weekends play a role. And for me rather evening until midnightish.
So all in all it's unlikely, but I still wanted to express my interest.

I am certainly interested in trying a one shot with yall but I have no experience with SWN and only a bit of experience with 5e in terms of DND. Might be a lot of work to learn a crunchy new ruleset for a one shot, but I don't know if youre planning on pregenerated characters or us building our own?

I know for one shots sometimes the former is easier for everyone involved...if I didn't have to build a PC I would assume itd be a lot easier to read a quick primer on the rules and show up and play, but I also don't want to be the one dickhead in the group who doesn't know the rules lol.

SWN is everything but crunchy. The rules are very simple and it's mostly about "the DM decides". The author of the game is all about 'rulings over rules'.
The character generation is also very straight forward and there is the option to fully roll your character, including background and everything. Which makes it even faster and fun, since you don't know before what you will get. Once you have have the random stats it's relatively easy to think of a concept around it and a matching backstory.
So in that regard SWN is a very good system for one shots.

Yeah basically what thelonius said. SWN is about has rules-lite as they come, much simpler than even 5e.

Ahh ok. Yeah I would probably be interested then! I associate DND-like systems mostly with old 3.5 stuff which I hear is much crunchier than 5e...guess that is not based in fact lol

Yeah there's crunchier editions of Dnd, but SWN is part of the "Old-School Revival" movement that takes dnd back to its roots before the crunch crept in.

There is TinyD6. The only rules are whether you roll one, two or three D6
But for me that is too little rules. I really like the balance of SWN. Lot's of freedom, yet enough rules to cover things appropriately.
