Height: 6’ 0”
Weight: 170 lbs.
Skin: Pale
Hair: buzzed sides and back, 1-2 inches on top
Eyes: piercing icy-blue
Notable Marks: none.
Outfit:
Torian dresses formally and meticulously at all times. He wears three piece suits of the finest linens and wool, in exclusively grey and black, with a bowtie around his neck. Under his suit is a shoulder-harness for his inferno pistol – his preferred weapon. At times of particular intensive thinking, and only when around family or friends, he is known to remove his jacket, roll up his sleeves, and undo his bowtie. Under his suit is a set of xeno-mesh armor that he wears always. While appearing to never be armored, Torian is capable of withstanding significant punishment. Not a frontline fighter, Torian nonetheless is often the instigator of violence, then relying on those around him to back up his actions.

The most noticeable physical feature of Torian is his eyes. Icy-blue and piercing, he will stare down his enemies unfazed.

Personality:
Nature: Phlegmatic: Practical and careful, yet very serious and reserved. Loyal to those under him and his true friends and family.
Demeanor: Suave, unpredictable, ambitious, brilliant, risk-taker. Torian works to improve his personal wealth and power, and the lot of his family and friends. To do so, he will not hesitate to lie, cheat, steal, murder, start wars, backstab, betray. All options are on the table, as the ends justify the means. He vowed to himself and his family long ago that he would never be subservient to anyone, nor be under the power of anyone ever again.
"It's us that have the machine guns now and it's them that's in the mud"
"This is the day we become respectable… but first we do the dirty work"
His position of power keeps himself and his family safe. Such is his priority.

Background:
Even Forgeworlds have an Underworld of crime and gang activity, and he has risen meteorically since late childhood through the ranks of the gangs, then bribed/cheated/intimidated his way into representing the cult mechanicum in multiple imperial worlds as an ambassador. After a recent alliance went south and a rival family targeted his own for destruction and death, Torian had to move quickly and secure a new foundation. As ambassador he had tested his DNA and traced his lineage back to the Filianatus dynasty, and new that this was the time to expand his family and loyalties. The existing seneschal, however, was likely to prove difficult to work around – and Torian was not going to sit around letting someone else plan business expansions and strike deals. Therefore it became necessary to quietly remove the sitting seneschal before making his appearance and claiming his place in the dynasty.

He brought with him an extended family and business associates (read: gang). All are loyal to him, follow his lead, fight like hell. They have bolstered the ranks of the ship crew, and have thus far been the muscle to back up Torian’s threats and deals.

He is a particularly criminal seneschal, with focuses in bribery, criminal activity, risky investments, power, and the tech priesthood. Early on, he realized the power and potential in the cult mechanicus and archeotech, and is trying to work his way into their good graces, learn whatever secrets he can, and use them to promote himself to ever greater power and wealth.

Coming from an extreme off-branch of the family that was reduced to ruins by addiction and gambling, his lineage is in question by some who consider him to be just a common gangster trying to get in on their trade charter.

Torian Siegel (Seneschal) Empty
PostSubject: Re: Torian Siegel (Seneschal)   Torian Siegel (Seneschal) EmptyWed Oct 09, 2019 5:38 pm

Questions:
1. The blood, from a bastard off branch that had fallen to nothing
a. Some question his lineage, but the driven mind of the Filinatis runs strong in him

2. Seneschal

3. Forge-World: Skaros Prime (Serf-Hive Level), Skaros subsector

4. Scapegrace
§ An orphan of the borderland between light and dark, you spent years living by your wits as a scapegrace amidst entertainers, gangers, reclaimators, and other ne’er-do-wells on the fringes of Imperial society. Your youth was spent in a grey borderland where the near-outcast mingled with shadowed figures risen from the depths and thrill-seekers come down from safer climes. A good scapegrace knows that the law only applies to those caught by the enforcers, that a life is worth only as much as is spent on keeping it. You’ve carried these hard earned lessons on into later life. Survival is best thought of as a game, with pleasure and ease the rewards along the way. A body must eat, drink, and live well, for death can come calling when it pleases
§ You gain Sleight of Hand as a trained Basic Skill, plus a bonus of +3 to your choice of Intelligence or Perception. You suffer your choice of 1d5 Corruption Points or 1d5 Insanity Points.

5. Renegade
§ The Imperium survives and prospers in no small part due to the narrowness of its vision, and by the strictures imposed by high walls, harsh order, and obedient faith on worlds where no man looks beyond the simple rotes taught in childhood. A rebellious mind such as yours could not be so easily constrained, however, but you have had to pay a price for your freedom and have learned those high walls are there for a reason. Perhaps you were a visionary in search of strange knowledge, seeking answers to questions those around you never thought to ask, answers that proved dark indeed. Or perhaps you denied the sanctity of the God-Emperor’s church in your heart and fled its shackles of faith, or fought as part of a bloody revolt against the tyranny and injustice of your home world. In any case, you saw your only options to be escape or death. Now, the stars beyond await you with the possibility of freedoms and powers unguessed at and perils unknown
§ Free-thinker: You gain your choice of +3 Intelligence or +3 Perception. You suffer –3 Willpower and gain the Enemy (Ecclesiarchy) Talent.

6. High Vendetta
§ Honour, friendship, and loyalty are not mere empty words or worthy ideals to you, they are tools for survival. Without your ship, your crewmates, and your allies, you are alone in the cold darkness of space and prey to enemies and rivals without number; with them, you are protected, you have a home and backup when others seek your life. This knowledge was brought home to you when you and your allies were caught up in a deadly vendetta with another faction, a murderous feud that consumed your life and sent friends to their graves. Whether your enemies were a rival crew, noble house, cult, cartel, or outlaw gang, blood was spilt and vengeance taken. Regardless of whether your side was victorious, or was left tasting bitter defeat in the end, what matters was that you fought and would to so again
§ Blood Will Have Blood: You gain your choice of the Die Hard or Paranoia Talent, and gain the Inquiry Skill (or, if you already possess it, increase it by one level).
§ Brook No Insult: You will allow no serious offence to your honour and person or those under your protection to pass unchallenged, meeting threat with threat and violence with violence. You may take a Willpower Test to avert this if you wish, modified by the provocation and the consequences (set by the GM) of succumbing to your rage

7. Prestige
§ The Imperium of Mankind is a grand hierarchy, and that, to your eyes, is a ladder reaching from the least peasant to the blinding heights of the God-Emperor’s own Holy Terra. You have dedicated your life to climbing that ladder in search of the highest station you can reach: the greatest power, the most important position of leadership, the utmost influence. Wealth, renown, and relationships with the powerful are only important insofar as they enable you to reach that next step. All too many fools never reach upward, but you bear them no ill-will. The position they might have ascended to will be yours, and they will be your loyal servants in the years ahead.
§ Effect: You gain your choice of the Talented (choose one) Talent or the Peer (choose one) Talent.

8. Nature:
○ Demeanor: Phlegmatic: Practical and careful, yet very serious and reserved.
○ Why am I a leader aboard a rogue trader vessel?
○ I vowed to myself and my family long ago that I would never be subservient to anyone, nor be under the power of anyone ever again.
□ "It's us that have the machine guns now and it's them that's in the mud"
□ "This is the day we become respectable… but first we do the dirty work"
○ After being forced off Skarus Prime when a deal went bad and his position became untenable, Torian used his considerable resources and brilliant, scheming mind to get a meeting with the head of the dynasty, who was struck by his ingenuity and ambition, as well as his contacts within the Adeptus Mechanicus
○ His position of power keeps himself and his family safe. Such is his priority.
○ Why does the Koronus expanse call to me?
○ Torian has always been a gambling man, and not afraid to get his hands dirty for the chance at the highest profit factors
○ What will I sacrifice?
○ Anything except my family, and then only just
○ Obsessively driven
○ Holds deep loyalty to my close family, and is slowly expanding that loyalty to all of the dynasty that has adopted me
□ Beside that, their success is my success
○ What is my ambition?
○ To become respectable, legitimate businessmen with the power to crush any opposed to him, and never again feel the boot of oppression on any of our necks
○ To gain revenge on the family that betrayed us on Skarus Prime
○ What are my hatreds?
○ The family that betrayed my own
○ The Adeptus Arbites, and overt authorities of any kind (though this never stops me from using whomever I can to forward my own agenda)
○ Is a particularly criminal seneschal, with focuses in bribery, criminal activity, risky investments, power, and the tech priesthood
○ Realized the power and potential in the cult mechanicus, and is trying to work his way into their good graces, learn whatever secrets he can, and use them to promote himself to ever greater power and wealth
○ An extreme off-branch of the family, that was reduced to ruins by addiction and gambling, his lineage is in question by some who consider him to be just a common gangster trying to get in on their trade charter

9. Rose quickly through the ranks of the gangs until leading one of the largest serf-hive gangs on Skarus Prime, before using that influence to shunt himself into the diplomatic core
a. After a hostile takeover killed much of his family, he withdrew their resources and their members to this new venture with the dynasty
i. He learned of his connection to the bloodline and went to claim his birthright and get out of dodge from the vendetta that left his close family powerless and bereft

10. Growing up on a forge-world, he learned of the emperor mostly in the aspect of the omnissiah, but as a ganger and a free-thinker, much of the imperial cult is just beyond his interest. Pragmatic nonetheless, he takes quite seriously the maintenance and worship of the machine spirits needed to use mechanicus technology to the best extent possible. He does not get along with the ecclisiarchy

11.
a. Greatest strength: his ever-scheming mind
b. Greatest weakness: paranoia, greed

12. A slender man of average height, immaculately dressed in a three-piece suit and bowtie, with piercing ice-blue eyes

13. His brothers and extended family from the hive-stack he grew up in, they have been through everything together and would (and have) died for each other

14. The better to use them for our own purposes

15. Not married, so far too obsessed with the work to make any time for real romance

16. Loyal to allies, sees the world as black and white, them against the universe

17. Father left early on, mother keeps track of family business for him

18.
a. Superiors
i. As equals, with respect and politeness, but as equals. He sees no one as above him, only further along the same path
b. Inferiors
i. Allied inferiors - tough love, looks out for them, always thinks he knows what is best, and follows through on those thoughts whether he's correct or not
ii. All other inferiors - dismissive, cold, uncaring. He has more important things to do.

19. Anyone who gets in his way. That tends to be rival gangs/houses, and the ecclisiarchy who have taken a special interest in him due to his interest in archeotech, the omnissiah, and Forbidden knowledge in general

20. He understands and respects the power of those individuals, and seeks to utilize their power just as with any other tool. Little fazes him

21. He is unabashedly in favor of stealing and looting and taking whatever he can from the xenos. Like taking from humans, but with even less mercy. Finds xenos disgusting, but is not above working with them and fervently wants whatever secrets and power they can offer him

22. No particular aversion to heretics, as he has no particular aversions to the holy. He understands that there is only room for his kind of life under imperial rule, and as such finds common purpose in doing what he can to help fights its enemies - when the situation arises and costs him sufficiently little

23. He is fascinated by archeotech and the collection of Forbidden knowledge. He would use archeotech for his own ends

24. He believes the family got lazy and apathetic, and lost their way to people willing to hustle harder. Now it's his turn to take it all back. Skeptical of, but not entirely disbelieving of the curse

25. Walks away, leaving the lever untouched. Whichever the train was already headed for is fine by him. He has other, more important business to attend to

26. Strong supporter! Without a proper overworld of civilization, there is no room for the underworld where he makes his home

27. Torian looks down on almost everyone, besides those whose loyalty or competence has been proven repeatedly. He sees the average person as lazy and ignorant, stupid sheep to be used and discarded. The wealthy are unworthy of their position, the poor are too lazy or weak to move up in society. He has respect for those who rose out of nothing.

28. Sleeps lightly and rarely, borderline obsessive with his work, maintains a rigidly enforced veneer of sophistication. Functional alcoholic, with lo sticks and amasec always on hand

29. No one. Failure and ambition and risk-taking were his tutors

30. Repeat

31. Extremely educated. Grew up with no formal education and learned from experience alone, but with the trappings of power came ever expanding opportunities to learn. He spends most of his time on-ship pouring through the library and reports from his spy network and trade reports

32. He doesnt know where to limit his ambitions, he has heard of ambition leading to here and corruption and brutal dismemberment by the inquisition, but the lure of power is hard for him to turn down

33. Amasec, the occasional pleasure girl, rereading his trade reports. He rarely relaxes.

34. A bet, ideally a sure thing

35.
a. Mom: Minoya - co-schemer, leads family business
b. *Brother: Gidden(is)
c. *Brother: Nico(bulus)
d. *Brother: Charin(us)
e. *Uncle: Pellio
f. *Cousin: Cario
g. *Brother-in-law: Sparax
h. *Henchman: Angelus
i. *Henchman: Mulier
*the men in Torian's extended family/clan/gang are more traditional gangers, hive-muscle that does the dirty work, doesn't question, lets Torian do the thinking for them

36. His mind. Take everything else away, and he can still scheme his way out of whatever position he finds himself in

37. Had a best friend, lost him in the purge that sent him on the run. Finds friendship difficult, as he's too calculating and scheming, but is hoping to learn and potentially befriend the explorator

38. Fear: death, weakness, being oppressed
a. Love: power wealth
b. Hate: very little, he doesnt hate those he crushes, just those who harm him or his family. Vendetta against those who cross his family

39. Someone who can cut through his veneer and he can be truly open and vulnerable with. But that will take a lot to get through

40. The tale of icarus

41. An inquisitor

42. Ambivalent

43. Repeat

44. Either dead or with immense power and wealth

45. Read in the library
