Personality
Richard has two principal drives in his life, himself and the pursuit of power. These are equally married. He pays little attention to the feelings of those he considers beneath him, even when doing so might be to his material advantage. To the very few he considers above him in terms of influence, he despises while presenting an image of fawning servility. His principal skills are in manipulating others to follow their worst impulses and a self belief which prevents any twinge of regret. Once he has done an action he is certain that he was in the right and never wastes any time in reconsidering the past.
Increased consumption of drugs in recent years have heightened his narcissism and increased the likelihood of him acting in an unpredictable manner as he seeks to sate his desires immediately. While he is generally blind to the feelings of others, he takes a particular pleasure in causing anger and pain to others, especially when they are unable to do anything in return. Thus his power is reconfirmed.
Background.
A former Speaker of the House, Richard lost his position following a scandal involving links to the illegal sale of weapons, and voter fraud. He has spent the past 8 years in the political wilderness but has recently staged a dramatic return following multiple political scandals rocking his party. He is currently pushing to be elected to the senate. He has a wife and two children, but they rarely occupy his mind. The real business of getting him elected is looked after by a dedicated team, whose directions his long suffering secretary Gerald is chiefly responsible with getting him to follow.

Gerald is currently dressed in a rumpled looking navy suit, with a dark blue shirt and tie. It is noticeably of poorer make and quality to the suit of Richard. He carries a brown briefcase with him in which he has Richards wallet, phone, keys and assorted campaign paperwork. Richard rarely uses any of these items himself and so Gerald carries out all tasks associated with these himself. Though tall, he rarely walks straight up, and his back his often crooked, which makes him seem smaller.
Personality
To Richard, Gerald is meek and subservient, and under which he burns with a desperate unfulfilled rage against his employer. To others, Gerald is often sarcastic and spiteful. While Richard can turn on charm sometimes, Gerald can only put forward earnestness. He has few real interests, or opinions of his own beyond railing against the hand dealt to him by life and tearing down those of others. He can be quite selfish but as he is over sensitive to how others perceive him, he can be guilted into acting for the good.
Background
Gerald has been Richards private secretary for the past 4 years. Prior to this he has worked various jobs in politics, slowly working his way up since University. His mother has a lot of influence within the party and helped get him his positions. While angrily reacting to any help given to him by her, he often turns to her in times of crisis.
