Setting
Earth, tens of thousands of years in the future. From space, the Earth would look largely the same as it does today. Water levels may vary due to differences in glaciation, volcanoes may have erupted, but large-scale plate tectonics have not had enough time to alter the landscape significantly. There may be some terraforming due to magic or Outsider influence, but these effects are more localized in nature.
A day is 24 hours, a year has 365.24 days, there are four seasons, and the constellations look mostly the same. We'll say Betelgeuse has gone supernova, but little else has changed.
Terrain
The terrain of the map will largely be woodlands, grasslands, foothills, and mountains. There will be rivers and lakes, and you may eventually reach the sea. It's not impossible to reach high deserts and semi-arid plains but those are less common. There are rain forests but no jungles. No tundra either, although the mountain tops will have snow.
Fauna
Animals that currently exist will exist in the game. There will also be variants, either bred or genetically altered or magically manipulated to be that way.
There are, of course, monsters. In fact, massive leviathans make sea travel challenging/suicidal. Few ships leave the safety of coastal waters. Rivers are navigable, and generally much safer.
Humans will mostly be the same as humans are today. There are demihumans and other variants, but male and female humans will be much as we know them. All ethnicities and cultures will be present. All naming conventions are acceptable.
Plot
None. This is a sandbox. There is no overarching bad guy, no mystery to solve. The world is what you make of it. There are other factions but they'll largely ignore you until you give them a reason not to.
Exploring the map for wealth and power is the default. Kingdom-building is a possibility. Leaving the wilderness and venturing elsewhere is not out of the question, but we'll start in the wilderness.
