Background: Adrasta doesn't remember much of her childhood before being taken in by the Crimson Phalanx. She was found by members of the mercenary company wandering the streets of a now-forgotten town as it was being sacked. She was taken in, as the company used war orphans as messengers and laborers in exchange for food and lodgings. She was a curious, clever child and it wasn't long before the company chirurgeon, Onesimos, took her under his wing and trained her in his craft. Adrasta trained to fight as well, earning a place as a hoplite and a combat medic. She started fighting in battles in her late teens, managing to survive where so many others fell, only to be replaced by eager recruits looking for adventure.
A few seasons ago, the Crimson Phalanx met its end. They had been hired by Baroness Raumoux as she fought another petty war against her neighbor, Count de Boisdevilliers. The mercenary company had been charged with holding the Baroness' flank, bordering on a dense forest. It should have been an easy assignment, but Count de Boisdevilliers managed to lead a unit of cavalry through the woods. His unit smashed through the Phalanx, leaving most of them dead or dying. Ultimately, his ploy was for naught: he was killed and his forces routed. The dozen or so survivors of the Crimson Phalanx were denied payment for their failure. Some joined other companies, some retired. Adrasta left, looking to forge her own path.
