Some areas are still populated normally, others are ghost towns that are inhabited by shady groups and those that don't want to be found.

Summary: Astyoc was once a well developed and reasonably influential society. But a very severe instance of The Cloud infected large groups of the population essentially throwing their planet back into stone ages. The planets population recovered since establishing a fairly working network of tries. The Cloud periodically occurs, irregularly and unannounced, causimg more or less serious damage to society.
Every couple of decades mysterious cloud of spores explodes out of cracks and creaves of the stony surface of the planet. In most cases, when it happens during the day, the inhabitants save themselves with masks and other counter measures. But every once and so often it happens during night or other times of distraction wreaking havoc among the the population.

Summary: Something on the planet Haliant causes humans to have a vastly increased lifespan to the extent that some people are practically immortal. The effect however quickly seems to wear off, once an individual leaves the planet and his age will quickly catch up with him. Scientists have been researching for decades to identify the agent causing the effect, but so far to no avail. The effect however caused Haliant to become an extremely popular retirement place for the ones with the appropriate funds or connections. Self sufficient retirement communities formed all over the the planet housing billions of eleders living out an indefinite retirement. Outside of the communities the planet is an inhospitable wasteland not offering anything to the inhabitants aside from the prolonged life span. Therefore the planet is dependent on large amounts supplies. The atmosphere and local magnetic fields make it impossible to communicate with off-planet recipients, this being the only reason that Haliant did not become the location for every major company headquarters in the sector.

Summary: Having been a fresh colony out of Staconago Harvaraio grew to host a few thousand people. Despite the toxic atmosphere humankind once again managed to carve out a niche for itself. Once exploration of the planet took of, something however was discovered that once activated or otherwise triggered (it's unclear what exactly happened) caused an enormous planet wide storm flattening everything in its wake and killing all colonists within hours. New attempts to colonise failed, as the settlers quickly started suffering of some kind of condition killing its victims within a matter of weeks. As this condition seems to be contagious, the planet was since then quarantined and is no longer accessible by the public.
