Space is big. Very big. It's just so insanely big that no entity can really effectively enforce unified laws throughout the sector.
Law is enforced on planet or system level (sometimes even on smaller scale, but let's exclude this for now). Typically the strongest entity in a system dictates the law within the system.
Some systems unite to accept a common law and trust that each system actually enforces said law, but this is typically an exception.
Alba
Aldega being the only relevant planet in the system, it controls system space. Law is very strict, protecting ships of the megacorps over everything. Piracy is practically unheard of, due to fierce punishment of any offence against corporate ships. Disputes between independent ships or such of smaller companies are usually handled quickly and without much in depth analysis. Typically the stronger or louder wins.
Gor
A ongoing gold rush makes the population within the system widely spread between small colonies on asteroids, space stations and the only relevant planet Aganarp. Piracy is something everyone knows happens everywhere in the system, therefore ships typically travel in convoys with strong protection or stay close to jump points and colonies.
Some corporations deployed patrols of enforcer ships that regulate regions of the system that are of interest for them.
Mentta
Haliant is still the dominant system and its laws are very focused on harmony. Trade is extremely important to the planet, therefore they try to keep a very civil rule over space in the system.
Rumors say that Staconago is starting to meddle in the system rule, unhappy with some of the regulations.
Xenthra
Since the demise of the Astyoc government space in the system is fairly uncontrolled. Law on Astyoc, as it stands is enforced on c ommunity level.
