I'm feeling a bit bored when sitting at home day after day as this recovery goes forward. And so I've been toying with the idea of starting to GM Only War again with my TT group. And as I sit here I'm entertaining myself with writing up some stuff for Only War. And I decided to post here in order to see if we can't get some more activity on the forum along with some feedback on these creations.

Galtland

A feudal world as backwards as any but with an impressive tithe to the Imperial Guard, Galtland has a reputation for its territory being crude and brutal and its people hardy and belligerent. For generations warbands and entire tribes have left the world in order to fight endlessly among the stars for the Emperor although generally with more aggression and warlike zeal than discipline.

Besides the local inhabitants there’s plenty of natural dangers and horrors on the world, the most feared being the murderously aggressive black boars that the local population hold as sacred to their patron saint, St Galtor who brought the Emperor’s light to the world and raised the people against their heathen kings. Some off-world Ecclesiarchical officials have commented on certain not entirely orthodox attributes attributed to St Galtor, among which are the name of the missionary who according to records converted the world was named Jeron and not Galtor, which is rather the name of a heathen god mentioned by Jeron in his reports to his superiors. In fact this controversy led a band of clerics to gather a throng of the Frateris Milita to the planet to rectify this alleged heresy. Once having made landfall this project came to a quick end which has not been closely investigated by the clerics’ superiors.

Galtland is a world in constant conflict as tribes, clans and warbands are jostling for matters of greed, honour or power with their swords and axes. Not having any industry of their own the local warriors nonetheless have a limited access to, and familiarity with, advanced weapons smuggled in by some few traders who comes by to pick up what natural resources are extracted and traded or bought, or stolen, from the small Imperial garrison guarding the local planetary governor’s palace and a miniscule space port for some limited trade and support for the Imperial presence.

Through its tithe of regiments for the Imperial Guard, the people of Galtland have proved their military value to the Imperium and found themselves fighting across a variety of warzones and against a number of opponents. The hardy stock and belligerent inclination has turned Galtland regiments into successful shock troops and earned much glory in the eyes of the Emperor.

Creating a Galtland regiments and characters

Characteristics: +3 Weapon Skill, +3 Toughness

Starting Skills: Athletics, Common Lore (War)

Starting Talents: Berserk Charge, Hardy

Planetary Traits: Wary of Outsiders (see OW Core, page 59), Tough Leadership – Towards others from Galtland, characters can use Toughness instead of Fellowship for the Command Skill, Prickly Honour – If challenged or insulted, gain 1 Insanity Point if violent vengeance is not taken within 24h and Suspicious of Machine Spirits (see OW Hammer of the Emperor, page 38).

Wounds: Begin play with +2 Starting Wounds

Standard Equipment Kit: Add one one-handed low-tech melee weapon

Favoured Weapons: Any as decided at regiment creation

Boar Brothers Regiment Type

Drawn from the rowdy and violent orders of warrior-priests dedicated to St Galtor, these warriors are zealous if not the best disciplined soldiers and are happy to fight the enemies of the Emperor and St Galtor. Their zeal however is not the contemplation of monks or the wrath of crusaders, but rather the crude and rowdy ways of the barbarian who knows that every day can be the last and so grasp and enjoy life as much as possible before the end comes. Much as their fellow Galtlanders do.

Cost: 2

Characteristics: +3 S, -3 Int

Starting Skills: Athletics

Starting Talents: Street Fighting, Last Days (Once per day in-game the character can re-roll a failed Fear or Pinning test)

Standard Regimental Kit: Las-carbine OR replace las-carbine with combat shotgun OR chainsword, 3 frag grenades , 2 krak grenades, heavy boar cloak, full Imperial Guard flak armour suite, talismans and ritual items concerning the Black Boars of Galtland and St Galtor.
