Background:
The town of Colbagne is small and insignificant. Housing about 300 souls, it has what people need and not more. Inhabitants are mostly farm folks and those that turn the yield into better consumable form. A butcher, a baker, a pub.
Colbagne lies on the border between two city states. The border shifts often changing the ruler over Colbagne just as often. But the people usually don't even notice. They notice the change of color of the kings men, when they come for the taxes, they notice the soldiers marching through and by the color of their banners and the state that the soldiers are in, the people of Colbagne can tell who just won and who lost. But most don't care. Politics, wars, court, affairs are all things that happen in another world.
For the children of Colbagne the passing through of the soldiers is always an event. If the soldiers look rugged, beaten, hurt, one will need to stay out of their way. But if they are pround, boasting, singing, the kids will be all over them, trying to get a coin, or an apple or even some exotic fruit or nut.
Ardan, the youngest of six, three sisters and two brothers, son of the baker loved the soldiers passing by. He was very good at convincing them to let him have a treat. At home and in the bakery he was often in the way, had to pick his words if he wanted to be heard. So he learned. He learned to listen to not what the people are saying, but to what they want to hear. And knowing this, he managed to pick the right words to be heard. Even if they were not always correct.
As the third son, the best he could hope for was working in the bakery that his brother would inherit. But Ardan stank at baking. So much so, that the only thing he was allowed to do, was cleaning up.
One day, Ardan must have been around twelve years old, a man passed through town. A merchant in search of the city. He was lost and needed a guide and Ardan heard what the man wanted to hear.
"I know how to get to the city, I'm a guide here in town and walk to the city all the time." Later Ardan was not sure why he had said this and why he had gone with the stranger, but he did. They found the city quickly, Ardan got a coin from the man and was allowed to sleep in the barn for one night.
The city was overwhelming, but Ardan quickly found his way. He lived between the houses, everywhere and nowhere, always listening what people wanted to hear and what they wanted to see. One day Ardan was an orphan, the next day the lost child of a rich merchant.
But eventually he got to the wrong person and chased by the guards he left the city.
Out in the wilderness Ardan almost did not make it. Taken in by master al-Sami he was barely saved from the brink.
Master al-Sami saw the path Ardan was on and taught him how to fight with an elegant sword and almost more importantly how not to get hit.
Ardan took well to the lessons and even mastered to create a weapon by pure will when he needed it most.
Eventually Ardan left, a young man of 19 years to live of the land, of the people and always listening what people want to hear, whom they want to see. Curiosity draws him ever further, to see what the land around him is like and to one day hear what kings want to hear, whom they want to see.

Goals
- Explore the world
- Con a king
- Perfect the Arts master al-Sami taught him
