He points to a giant military grade duffel near a grate in the ground. "It appears subterfuge is the answer. Look here. He isn't disregarding his armor after all. Same game plan as before? Take point and I will cover your six."

Weyland quickly relays the information to Etthart.

Weyland and Fimolov move off.

"So he changed his armor? Interesting. I'll start scanning sectors for him in different armor." Etthart says in return to Weyland's findings.

"The only legion I can think of that employ this kind of subterfuge would be the Alpha Legion. Why do they want to sabotage your work though? Why not win the bid for them and destroy them then? Or use them?" Fimolov says in thought.

"It is peculiar. But is that not so for most of the Alpha Legion's moves? If that is what he is at all."

Weyland thinks back to any type of clue that might shed some light on what was happening...

"Point taken." Weyland responds.

As the two Astartes creep forward Weyland spots a wire out of place on the ground. In a forge there's many wires running around everywhere but this one is not an electrical wire. Upon observation it's det cord.

Weyland follows its path and comes up 5 different sets of explosives laid throughout the hall and more continuing down it. All the explosives are attached to fuel lines, electrical junctions, and atmosphere piping.

"I suspect if we keep following the det cords we'll find our mysterious Astartes." Fimolov says.

Weyland points out the det-cord.

"Etthart, the infiltrator has placed explosives. Send technical teams to disarm."

He then gives Fimolov the nod and follows. They would attack this the same way as before. Eyes open for an ambush with the Warpsmith leading the way.

"Copy that. Teams are on there way. Also, be advised that I have tracked our unfriendly Astartes to the main life support generator. None of the security servitors nor any Hereteks in the area are responding. You and Fimolov are the closest ones that I'm in contact with." Etthart says over the vox.

Weyland and Fimolov move to the main life support generator. The det-cord lines lead there anyways.

The generator is housed within its own section of the asteroid with air gaped entrances. Meaning this section can be entirely cut off in case of an emergency, or an attack, and keep the oxygen pumping to the rest of the asteroid.

Coming up to an entrance Weyland and Fimolov note three dead Hereteks and five dead security servitors. Their wounds though are not from a bolter or other Astartes weapons. They are from claws and teeth...

The two Astartes then press into the generator room itself, a massive one at that.

Ending life support seemed a foolish mission. All of the personnel who mattered had secondary and tertiary life support systems on their persons in case of just such a thing. Could it be another ploy? He had an idea there was more here than he could foresee.

He entered the generator room as stoic as ever, but now his bolter was up and scanning for targets. His enhanced senses, further boosted by his helmet's ancient auto-senses, rapidly fed him information.

Weyland can here the clank of large objects being moved around further in the main life support room.

Moving forward carefully and slowly he can see what's going on. He can see the end of Storm Bolter being aimed at some Hereteks who are connecting large tanks into a section of life support. What they are Weyland can't tell.

Weyland stops though and makes sure Fimolov does the same. The areas ahead are rigged with motion sensors. There aren't any explosives but triggering them would probably alert the owner of that Storm Bolter.

Weyland gestures for Fimolov to get ready for battle.

He raises his bolter and sights in on the storm bolter. He took his time, taking careful aim; if he was anything, it was patient. His autosenses locked in on the weapon. When he felt ready, he fired...

It was an improbable shot. Not impossible mind you but something that had very low chances of succeeding. Steady aim and possibly the guidance of Nurgle put the bolt round right on target. The front housing of the weapon breaks apart and the whole thing goes flying. The figure holding it reacts in surprise and quickly slinks out of sight.

The two Hereteks take this chance to abandon their forced task and flee.

The sound of multiple heavy metallic feet then pierce the air. Something leaps into the air and lands on a contraption next to Weyland. It's in the shape of an old terran animal. A velociraptor. Another comes skidding around a corner looking at Fimolov.

"Velocireapers!" The Warp Smith yells out and raises his shotgun to fire.

Weyland turned to the threat and pulled his plague knife in his free hand. He took a defensive stance, awaiting the charge, ready to retaliate with brutal efficiency.

The Velocireapers go after their respective targets.

Weyland's Velocireaper:

Fimolov's Velocireaper:

Fimolov:

The Velocireaper next to Welyand tries to jump down onto him but it's claws and teeth grab air instead of armor and flesh.

Fimolov's attacker come barreling towards him but in a rarely seen act of agility Fimolov ducks under the attack from the Velocireaper.

Fimolov spins on one heel as he drops to a knee and sights in his target.

Fimolov:

Velocireaper:

The round is on target but the Velicoreaper moves just out of the way.

[Fimolov is about 2 meters away from Weyland.]

Weyland's Velocireaper:

Weyland lands a vicious blow on the Velocireaper but it's still standing... barely.

In the frenzy of close combat Weyland catches a glimpse of something big and fast maneuvering between the machines in the room towards him.

[Weyland has spotted the Alpha Legionnaire ruining his stealth approach. I'll roll his initiative now since he can't make a surprise attack anymore.]

Alpha Legionnaire:

Fimolov's Velocireaper jumps back into the fray with him biting and clawing.

Fimolov's Velocireaper:

It can't get a solid hit in.

Weyland's own opponent comes back into the melee.

Weyland's Velocireaper:

It has the same result as Fimolov's. A failure to land a hit worth anything.

Alpha Legionnaire:

The large figure comes bursting from his cover. His armor marks him as one of the Alpha Legion and his power fist comes racing towards Weyland.

Fimolov:

Fimolov tries to bring his servo arm down on his attacker but all it hits is air.

Weyland's Velocireaper:

Weyland's Velocireaper tries to tangle itself with him. However, it can't get a good grip around his behemoth body.

Fimolov's Velocireaper:

Fimolov:

Fimolov's attacker has an easier time tying him up.

Alpha Legionnaire:

The Alpha Legionnaire cocks his power fist back again and brings it in with some force.

Fimolov:

Fimolov is able to break away from the Velocireaper's flimsy hold and tries to hit it again with his servo arm.

Fimolov's Velocireaper:

His Velocireaper is to fast and easily avoids the attack.

Parry 55:

Weyland voxes to Etthart. "Alpha Legionnaire in the life support chamber. If there are automated defenses here, engage them."

By the rot of Nurgle, he parried a flurry of blows. He had to end this quickly. He shifted gears, dropping his legion bolter to the ground and quick drawing a krak grenade. It was risky, but he was running out of options. He lunged forward in a blink, hoping to lodge the ordnance into one of his opponent's armor's crevices.

Alpha Legionnaire:

The Alpha Legionnaire side steps Weyland's attempt to plant the krak grenade on him.

Weyland's Velocireaper:

The Velocireaper once again tries to grapple Weyland bit fails.

Fimolov's Velocireaper:

Fimolov:

Fimolov's attacker goes back on the offensive and Fimolov misses his shot with his inferno again. The Velocireaper gets some hits in but its claws can't penetrate through the Warp Smith's armor.

Alpha Legionnaire:

The Alpha Legionnaire isn't giving up on trying to land a hit on Weyland. This time though his swings don't connect.

Fimolov:

Fimolov ignores the Velocireaper as it's just a distraction and sights in the Alpha Legionnaire with his inferno pistol. It's a tricky shot with him being tangled with Weyland but he gets the shoot off...

Alpha Legionnaire:

Weyland sees a bright beam of light skim the side of his pauldron and nail a ducking Alpha Legionnaire. The enemy Astartes re-coils and lets out a primal scream of pain. His chest armor has a small smoking hole in it.

Taking advantage of the Warpsmith's attack, Weyland pushes the initiative. He means to stuff the krak grenade directly in the hole Fimolov created. Yet, he dint dare underestimate his enemy. He played defense while striking out.

Alpha Legionnaire:

The Alpha Legionnaire isn't fast enough this time to avoid Weyland's krak grenade plant.

He stuffs the krak grenade in the hole, pulls the pin, and watches as the grenade's shape charge blows out from both the front and back of the Alpha Legionnaire. It leaves a hole big enough for Weyland to fit his armored arm through.

The Alpha Legionnaire stumbles backwards for a few seconds in shock before finally collapsing to the ground.

The Velocireapers seem to go berserk and flee.

[Combat is over.]

Fimolov keeps his shotgun up for any other threats as he regroups with Weyland, "Interesting tactic, brother. Where did you pick that up?"

Etthart comes crackling over vox, "Weyland! Weyland! Come in. We've lost contact with you when you entered the life support room. Ulta has dispatched his guards to come and assist. Hopefully you're still alive when they get there."

Weyland clicks back to Etthart. "Threat eliminated. The infiltrator has been dealt with, though there may be others. Reroute the majority of Ulta's reinforcements to other key areas of the station. Send the minimum necessary here to secure the location."

He looks over at Fimolov, then back to the downed Alpha Legionnaire. "A Novamarine once tried to do the same thing to me. Your shot allowed me the opening - Nurgle's blessings upon you." That was as close to a "thank you" as Weyland had allowed himself to come in many decades.

The plague doctor within kicked into action and he immediately began searching the Astartes he had just dispatched. All weapons and armor, no matter how badly damaged, would be taken back to the lab for thorough examination. The same would be done for the body itself.

His narthecium went to work and he did his best to extract the geneseed.

Medicae:

Alpha Legion geneseed, if that is what this was, would make a very formidable ally once inected with the Grandfather's blessings. Perhaps he could reknit the body... As his mind was formulating options, he began to simultaneously think on reasons why this Astartes was here.

FL Astartes & Long War:

Weyland easily extracts the Alpha Legionnaires geneseed. One more to the collection of many.

[FL Astartes & Long War: The Alpha Legion might be the most cohesive among the traitor legions but its members are still able to "freelance". Meaning they are very popular mercenaries for chaos warbands and warlords. Either the Alpha Legion deemed Weyland's work a threat for some reason or someone hired this Astartes out. If it was an Alpha Legion sanctioned then they would of sent more to see the job done. This looks like the legionnaire was hired out by someone.]

Weyland searches the rest of the room while Fimolov investigates the tanks that were almost hooked up to the generator.

"Good thing we stopped him in time. These compounds are not designed to suffocate anyone. One is a liquid and the other a gas. When combined the two you get a nasty acid. He was going to try and kill everyone and thing on this rock!" Fimolov yells out to Weyland.

Weyland's Narthecium immediately secures the geneseed in an internal vial filled with Nurgle's blessings.

"This Legionnaire was working for someone outside of the Alpha Legion, otherwise he would have had plenty of backup to accomplish his objective. And now we know that they wanted the entire operation, and everyone trying to bid on it, wiped out."

He hadn't personally found anything of interest other than the obvious. Perhaps Fimolov had.

"Did you find anything else?"

Regardless of whether or not Fimolov does, Weyland eventually decides that they should report back to Ultima their findings.

[800 XP for the two fights. +5 Infamy.]

"This being the Screaming Vortex there are plenty that wouldn't like to see your work completed or sold off to their enemies." Fimolov says returning to Weyland, "No, seems the Alpha Legionnaire didn't leave much behind."

++++

Back in Ulta's personal quarters Weyland deposits the body of the Alpha Legionnaire in front of him. He tells him of what he's found.

Ethhart skitters out from behind him and starts to inspect the body. He finds the geneseed removed and nods to Weyland.

"Someone seems to be going to great lengths to make sure your creations never leave Anvil, Weyland. A Tech Assassin and an Alpha Legionnaire. Fine tools of assassination and sabotage. As you say this seems to be a third party that has employed them." Ulta says.

Spoiler:

Weyland stands still, the only sound the constant dripping of his Father's blessings dripping and crusting around his armor. He removes his helmet, allowing all the gaze into the full horror of his face if they chose.

"I would advise locking down the station and interrogating all who attended this gathering one at a time under the pretense of bringing them in for individual bidding. However, if that is too heavy handed, deep-observation is a viable option. Ultimately, my plague marines are the highest priority and I need to see them finished."

He waited for a response before continuing.

"I would make two requests of you; one, if when bidding does start, I would recommend Fimolov - after thorough review - to have first consideration. He proved himself extremely valuable to this cause and was integral in saving this station and its operation. Two, I need hardware - something capable of penetrating armor with ease."

"Deep observation is preferred. I don't want to scare off any potential customers. I will make sure they are contained to that chamber. Any wanderers will be shot on the spot." Ulta says.

"I will keep Fimolov in mind. I will owe him a debt either way if he doesn't have the winning bid." Ulta looks to Etthart, "Get this astartes a weapon."

"With pleasure." Etthart says in return.

++++

The beating heart of Anvil is its forge. The smell of industry is thick with a fog of burnt oil hanging overhead and the heat of molten metal. If Weyland was looking for a weapon he had come to the right place.

Etthart guides him past the assembly lines and into the vast lines of storage areas ringing the forge.

The Heretek moves quickly bringing Weyland a selection of weapons to consider.

[Weyland has his choice of a Legion Meltagun, Legion Plasma Gun, and a Power Scythe.]

"The meltagun and plasma gun are from our Legion stock. The power scythe is one of Anvil's specialties. If you prefer something bigger then these I can see what our Legion stock has in the form of heavy weapons."

Weyland walked by each of the ranged weapons without saying a word. The melta gun and plasma gun were tested and true, but it was not what he preferred. He preferred to get close so that he could smell the fear on his enemies' pheremones before they were dispatched. He stopped at the scythe.

Mortarion. His first father, given apotheosis by the Grandfather. He picked up the Scythe and felt the weight of it. Even with his physique and power armor, he could tell that it was heavy.

"This will be my newest tool. For Mortarion and for Nurgle."

Completely off topic and no doubt taking the heretek by surprise, Weyland addresses him directly. "What drives you, Etthart? What gives you purpose?"

"Knowledge and creation. That might sound stereotypical for a Heretek but the drive to further our understanding of this universe burns greatly inside of all of us. With this knowledge we've been gifted the hands of creation. Unlike my fellow forge brothers though I'm not one to toil over a forge and make weapons, armor, or machines of war. I'm more interested in biology and enhancing it through all means."

Etthart looks at his own body, "For some it's through replacement." He then looks at Weyland, "And others it's blessings from the Gods. Whatever it is I want to learn it and apply it."

"This is why we have achieved a sort of symbiosis. We share the same goals. I want to bring the Alpha Legionnaire back, but not as a simple plague marine. I want to bring him back as something more - an agent of mine able to perform with the same clandestine affinity, but for the Plague Father. I would trust you to aid me in this endeavor."

He sat the butt of the scythe on the steel floor with a clank.

"But first, we must attend to the plague marines. Are they nearly ready?"

"I'm up for the challenge." Etthart says, "The plague marines won't be done for some time. However, the remaining stock are coming along with no complications. With the heightened security I doubt anyone is going to make a move on them unless they plan on blowing Anvil up to do so."

++++

The bidding for Weyland's creations was settled. They would be given to Soloria Half-Blind upon their completion. It was a slight surprise but Soloria was a powerful sorcerer and her emissary Maxims played his cards right. These new editions to her warband will be of great use to her when she seeks her vengeance back upon the Imperium.

[1700 XP and +15 Corruption for completion of The Harvest goal. Since this goal is more open ended Weyland can keep it or he may replace it with another.]

The bidding was out of Weyland's hands but he was looking at something that was well within his control. The body of the dead Alpha Legionnaire floats in a vat tank to keep it preserved for it upcoming resurrection.

However, a true resurrection was not as simple as say making a servitor or mutating a living being. It was undoing what has already been done. It was one of the greatest powers of Nurgle but even for Weyland such power wasn't freely available.

Help wasn't far away though with the bidders. Fimolov and Viroid were clear chooses for assistance. Also, Maxims, the Tzeentch sorcerer might be of assistance. Keeping Fimolov around shouldn't be an issue but Viroid and Maxims are probably bound to leave very soon to return to their leaders.

Weyland trusted Ultima's security measures, and as such after some time he requested Fimolov to meet with him in a secure area. Assuming the Warpsmith meets with him, he greets him with a nod.

The room is neutral territory, or as neutral as it could be on someone else's space station.

"It is unfortunate that you did not win the Plague Marines. I had put your name forward as the candidate I would have chosen, but alas it appears money talks. Truly, nothing changes. I assume compensation of some sort was forthcoming though?"

He waited for an answer before replying.

"I have a request of you, specifically your talents. The Alpha Legionnaire we dispatched, I plan on bringing him back as punishment for his transgressions against me. But my gifts of Nurgle only go so far. I am in need of a greater skill. Would you help me in this endeavor? Between you, me, and Etthart, I believe this would be a task well within our reach. We have worked well together, you and I. I would see that continue."

Later

Weyland visits Ultima's chamber shortly after the winner is declared. He gave a slight respectful bow as he entered. Ultima had proven a valuable ally and beneficial employer. He had no reason to be disrespectful.

"The Plague Marines will be ready for delivery on schedule. I also wanted to thank you for the gift of my primarch. It will serve me well. Have your observations turned up anything of value - specifically regarding the Plaguemeister Viroid?"

Weyland had taken the Plaguemeister's insults on the chin, and with them he made a new project of the petulant worm. The deep observations would hopefully give him some intelligence to use against Viroid.

"The Magos and I came to favorable compensation for my assistance is saving Anvil."

Fimolov nods his skull helm, "I will gladly assist you and Etthart on reviving the Alpha Legionnaire. If we are successful we will probably be able to find out who wanted your work destroyed."

++++

"A happy accident so to speak with the power scythe. We've been making them for millennia." Ulta says as he works on some project, "Observations have not revealed much in the way of our saboteurs. As for this Viroid he and his master are on shaky ground for not securing the winning bid. For a Nurgle Warlord to miss out on some of his gods best soldiers is embarrassing to say the least. It seems Viroid has also started to worm his way in with some of the other emissaries. I believe he plans on deserting his leader is fear or retribution for his failings here."

Weyland gives a slight nod of his head to Fimolov. With the Warpsmith's assistance secured, he actually had a chance of returning the Legionnaire. While he sold it as a way to get more intelligence for Ultima, thereby gaining even more favor with the Magos, the end game was to have his own clandestine agent.

"Warpsmith Fimolov, if I may. What drives you? What are your aspirations and ultimate goals? You came to bid on Plague Marines, so I know you have a need or my specific brand of pain and elegance when it comes to warfare, but there is more to it, is there not?"

If they were to be allies, he would know Fimolov - like Etthart - inside and out.

++++

"All the same, it is a fine addition to my arsenal. The informaton on Viroid will be useful. Once the Alpha Legionnaire is resurrected, if it is successful, I will find out who did this and they will be punished accordingly."

He still had work to do for the Magos, but was already planning ahead.

"Magos Ultima, I have personal missions that require exploration of the Vortex. I would require a Cruiser to accomplish them. As you are my beneficiary and of the Dark Mechanicum it is only logical I would ask you to entrust me with such a vessel."

He stood tall and silent after that, awaiting the Magos' reply.

Infamy roll to acquire Cruiser:

"My ambitions lie with the Heterodact Array. You have heard of the Men of Iron, correct? Autonomous beings with intelligence that matched or superseded their human creators. I look to create such an intelligence. One that is totally artificial. A new ally to the cause of Chaos. Eliminating the Imperium, freeing humanity, and wrenching the Corpse God from his throne of lies and repression. That is what drives me. Your creations would of been one of the many tools those of the Heterodact Array would use to make this dream come true."

++++

Ulta mules over the request, "We've haven't had any issue with one another. I gave you facilities to conduct your work that have won this asteroid-smithie reputation and large monetary gains. A Cruiser from my fleet would be an ample award I believe for the work you have done for me."

[Weyland has access to a Dark Mechanicus Cruiser now. However, this will cost him some Infamy in acquiring its service. Reduce your Infamy by 1d10.]

FUCK:

Question:

Weyland was about to speak when he felt an odd sensation in his head. It was painful in the extreme, but with it came immense pleasure as his reinforced cranium died and was reborn over and over again. He had to bow down slightly as the pressure built.

A noise, like rockrete rubbing against itself, grew in volume. Two growths began to form on each side of his head. They grew incredibly fast before the Magos' eyes, writhing and sprouting like branches on a diseased tree.

When he rose again, two antlers crowned his head in sickly majesty. The one on the left had split into two sections halfway up, for a holy count of three.

Something like this:

Weyland craned his neck, emitting a powerful pop. "It appears that I will need to update my battle-helm. I thank you for your generosity, Magos. I will return to my work."

Weyland listened patiently as the puss dripped from his eyes and ran down his face.

"Perhaps I can still aid you in that venture; a quid-pro-quo relationship would serve both of our needs and play to our strengths. I too would see humanity freed from the horrible stagnation of the Imperium and its wasted 'God'. Tell me Fimolov, what do you know of the Necron?"

[Nope. No re-roll for that infamy expenditure.]

[As far as the ship goes I view it more as that Inquisitor role. Someone else runs the ship but you are the ultimately the one that tells it where to go and what to do.]

The Magos doesn't watch in horror. It's more of a curious glance at Weyland's newly bestowed gifts.

The word Necron causes Fimolov to cock his helmed head to side, "The Necron? They've come up in my research many a times. I know of a few hard to come by facts and the usual rumors and speculation. What interest do you have in them?"

"Their regenerative abilities," Weyland adds matter-of-factly. "The mere limit of actual experiential knowledge of them makes them a target of opportunity for both of us."

He knew Fimolov didn't need to be convinced. Their goals were already neatly fitting into alignment with one another, so he decided to be honest to an extent.

[PC sheet updated - infamy reduced to 50; Not sure what other plot threads or goals I can realistically cover here. If Fimolov is down to clown, then Weyland intends to inspect the cruiser with Etthart, offer them both a chance at glory with him, and move on]
