Please feel free to ask any questions you may have here.

I am going a different route on this one and will let you ponder on what the Chapter title means. If I had time, I would give you my understanding of it here, but I rarely have time for anything anymore. Enjoy the update and enjoy getting to know these NPCs and this world. The Hudson, for all intents and purposes, will be your home/home base/main locale. I want it to feature heavily as a living environment. So get ready to become acquainted with it.

For players needing help visualizing the Chindits, you can check out the real life Chindits here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chindits

They were an English/Indian "Long Range Penetration" spec ops unit in World War II who saw the majority of their action in Burma. They aren't all Maori or Kiwi based; rather, think of them as a corollary to any rea;-world imperial/indigenous fighting force. They can be as Brit/Indian, Kiwi/Maori, or Aussie/Aboriginal as they need. Currently we have one of our two very own Kiwi's - Nik - playing one, so you know which way that pendulum is going to swing.

OK, so a quick note - we will retain the Logistics system we have been using for the game's duration. Your current rating is 35 and info pertaining to that can be found in the appropriate thread on this forum.

Now, onto the title of this chapter. Yes, it is based on the newest Darkest Hour album and yes, it is awesome as fuck. I know. Thank you. With a change in setting both in-game and in my real life, I wanted to take the Bastards in an entirely new direction. No longer an official part of the Astra Militarum, you are now on the payroll of a Rogue Trader you know virtually nothing about. Whether or not this is a good or bad thing is yet to be seen. The same can be said for how you will all react to your new surroundings; will you thrive or merely survive? Of course, a lot of this is me projecting my own worldview, insecurities, and experiences with my current life changes onto the game... which has been a hell of a way to cope, let me tell ya.

So, onto the title. Godless prophets. Migrant flora. What does it all mean? Well, who the Godless prophets and the Migrant flora are is really up to you, your actions, and your own interpretations. As a penal regiment whose motto is literally seeking salvation through sacrifice ("penitence in death!") you could very well be the Godless Prophets. You are still instruments of the Emperor's will, yet how long has it been since you have stood in or felt His presence? Have you ever? The Godless Prophets could also be the enemies you face on the field of battle, or they could be the servants of the Imperium who toil and work just because it is all they know how to do, without ever considering what it really means to be a subject of the Emperor. Of course, the Godless Prophets could be another term for Rogue Traders, only in search of glory and the worship of material gains. In a sense they are quite literally Emperor-less in the search of profit. Mind blown? It is for you to decide ultimately.

You could also be the Migrant Flora. Spread throughout the stars with no home, no direction, only a hint of a beginning, and no definite end in sight, the Bastards are definitely migrating. How will you sow your seeds and leave your legacy? Are you spreading your legend throughout the galaxy, planting and growing ideas of salvation, attempting to find rebirth and new life? Perhaps the Migrant Flora are your enemies, constantly spreading, attempting to sink their roots into worlds ripe for the taking.

There are many ways to interpret it, but the main factors revolve around change, insecurity, and the human condition. However you interpret it, I hope you are in the mindset of new beginnings and directions, and are eager to see where they take you.

Very nice writeup and explanation. Looking forward to it and getting Stubbs some goals. I mean getting that Commissar for killing Barb is one goal, but until now he has just been in it for shooting things up and getting some. So I gotta think on it a bit.

Thanks, Mark. I'm glad you dig it. Yeah, whenever you have some goals thought up, write them out as a comment on your PC sheet.

Everyone else, let's keep the IC up. There have been some good openings for Nik and Kim to get some IC responses in and I think we are waiting on Richard's story-time fun.

Sorry, guys. I had a write up for you on Tuesday that I had started in the morning but by the time I got back to my computer that night it had frozen up and had to be restarted. Hence, my IC write up was eaten.

I am hoping to rectify the problem this afternoon or tomorrow at the latest.

Jeff, what can Rook do to find the machine shops and tradespeople....? Is there anything he can use from their trip to the lodgings that can be used to disseminate a particular direction he should travel? He needs to find things!

Right now since you have only seen a very limited view (Highway 1, the upper habs, and a nerve center) those memories won't help you out too much. This is going to take some actual investigation and talking to people - and I will determine the difficult of the (most likely) inquiry test depending on how you approach the situation.

The nerve centers are all bastions of hustle and bustle. Most likely someone there.

Right now, you are all getting situated and NCOs - Bastard and Chindit alike - aren't letting people just come and go as they please. So that would be a test in and of itself.

Bazin's goal is simply to survive. He fears death in any shape. He cares little for honor and pride, though if he gains some he doesnt mind that.

Failed my attempted intimidate on 4th. I feel like fellowship doesn't really fit on that skill, as his scars would make him more intimidating I would think. Wouldn't have made a difference either way though

51 vs 19, 4DoF. http://orokos.com/roll/572652

I have had the same conversation with some people regarding DnD rules for Intimidate. There is an answer on Reddit that sums it up very nicely:

Reddit Guy wrote:
Intimidate is specifically used to make yourself seem more threatening than you otherwise appear. A huge, muscle-bound Orc might be scary, but your fear of him is entirely rational based on his apparent abilities. He doesn't need an intimidate check - any rational person is already going to think twice about tangling with him unless they know that they themselves are stronger. And that's where the Orc sucks at intimidate - he's probably never needed to TRY to intimidate someone, so if he runs up against someone legit stronger, he's got nothing else to use.
Now on the other hand, take a half-elf. He's smallish, not much to look at. Based solely on his apparent abilities, he's a wimp - so in order to survive, he's gotten good at convincing people he has abilities that aren't apparent. Maybe he's good at muttering things under his breath that might be spells, maybe he's perfected a good shouting voice, or maybe he can perform a few showy moves with his knife that make people think he's REALLY good with it. Whatever method he employs, he's using the Intimidate skill to convince people to be IRrationally afraid of him.
TL;DR: Rational fear isn't intimidate; irrational fear is.

With that in mind, anyone who simple describes their PC as "Big as fuck, 6'13" 500lbs" would argue that they should automatically succeed on intimidate checks, but that isn't really what the skill is about.

HAVING SAID THAT, I am all for homebrewing a new talent that allows a PC to use Strength instead of Fellowship for Intimidate checks.

1. Link your PC in yoru signature for me, bra. Gracias.

2. This is not a good goal. Well, it is a very good goal for your PC, but not in the sense of gaining XP just from breathing every day. You need to put some more thought into it and really start honing it down to something more specific. Maybe his goal is to keep Newt alive too - so if you're ever in a situation where she is getting thrashed, saving her life or taking hits for her/protecting her could work toward accomplishing that goal. Granted, that would also go against Bazin's need to survive. The goals need to/should have elements of risk in them, otherwise there is no incentive to earn XP.

Shit, I clicked the little notification and lost my IC post.

EDIT: We should get on that intimidate talent though, I definitely feel like Kar should be more intimidating given his appearance and skill. Maybe Strength, Social aptitudes, that just allows strength for the primary characteristic for awareness? Probably a 30-35 STR prereq and talent level 1?

Hey, per DH2, Intimidate IS based off Strength. So, that fixes that. With that in mind, did you pass?

I will take a +20 CL Imperial Navy if anyone is trained in it, or a +0 Logic test to get more info on the other Armsmen and their function aboard the frigate.

Ah, Logic. Maybe one of the most under-utilized skills in this game system.

Nik, you wrote Daemaer rather than Wiremu in your post. WORLDS ARE COLLIDING.

No worries. Thanks, guys.

Just as a heads up, the only reason we have gone so long without an update is because of my final projects.... WHICH ARE NOW COMPLETED. AWWWWWWWWWWWYEAHHHHHHHHHHHH. Expect this game to get moving... Be sure you are all on this train as it leaves the station.

Rook has finally engaged Mae. This is awesome. One question to consider is how Mae is going to speak to Rook to get him to comprehend what she is saying. No matter how loud he talks, his ears are still ten ways from fucked.

So that roll only succeeds with two assists.

We went over this in LINE just now, but I want to reiterate; if players are going to assist the main roller, they need to do so before he makes his roll. This will help us avoid metagaming.

In an effort not to stall this once more before it kicks off, I am going to allow it. But in the future this will be a fail.

EDIT: Intimidate is an opposed test vs Willpower. Naval Armsman fails with 4 Degrees. http://orokos.com/roll/578842

EDIT 2: Bazin Awareness +10 to read lips <40; rolled 79. Fail. http://orokos.com/roll/578843

So far I have heard back from Andrew and Richard that their characters want to do... something.

Without any more concrete details, I am going to push the game forward a number of days in the next IC to give them an opportunity to at least attempt whatever they want to do. If I still don't hear anything back after that, I am going to jump us straight into Port Wander.

Some of you - Nik and Nate - I still need to do work on your PC sheets (XP buys, etc). Nik, I haven't forgotten about your Patu either.

For Nik - Wiremu has seen dozens of adepts in his short, but longer than present company's, time aboard The Hudson. He doesn't know any of them personally as they rarely occupy the same space for any worthy period of time. However, they must do something on their downtime... right?

No, he cannot. Lol. All deaf PCs will be functionally DEAF until your arrival at Port Wander. Your shit is absolutely fucked and no amount of wishful RP will fix that. This is what you get for not taking GM hints. Dumbasses. Wink

Mark - well done with keeping Stubbs dumb and deaf.

Having said that, the rest of that IC post was brilliant. Just a hive-kid trying to talk smart to a tech priest.

I know Andrew has a post incoming, but if the rest of you want to get anything done in this ten day journey, now is the time to speak up or be left behind.

I had planned on the whole encounter taking place in the next few days but before the mission started. And in which case the ears would have been healing naturally (2 weeks right?)

Jeff do you want a navigation test from Rook to remember how to get back to the auditorium? It looks like Mae's directions are based from the entrance of it.

So, we are still on day 1. I will put the day at the top of the next couple of updates so we may keep track.

Here’s how it went down in my head - you all went to the auditorium (nerve center 5) and then met as a company in your nerve center courtyard (NC 4) that has the lifts to get you to your living Habs. Mae gave you instructions on how to find the engineering area from there.

Since you’re going off of memory, but the environment is completely new, give me a +10 navigation test.
