O.K. will check and try. . .
In the meantime, should we need to expedite Game Progression, if You have to take Rolls in my stead do it and I will GLADLY take ANY results and Complications (is anyway "Plot Hook Fodder" !!). .

If You have some sort of examples about "Default Gear" of a "Rival Crew" of our comparable size and background, then could be useful to know what to expect in a "Standard Vanilla Confrontation" . . .!!

Confrontations can range from just about anything. I don't balance encounters I just make encounters and the PCs deal with them in whatever fashion they see fit (if that means retreating that means retreating).

Here's some examples of things the crew of the Bucket might run into.

Outlaw Jeremy 'The Wicked' and his gang:

The examples are VERY useful (for Me at least) to comprehend the "Threat Level Assessment" kind of Gameworld Background. . .

In that manner is easier to figure how to better equip our Crew Team. . . . .!!!

Just a question to get it straight if i wna tto purchase stuff.
If i make an aquisition roll for medium rarity gear i get access to every piece of gear with medium rarity?

For my character im thinking of a Back Ally Loan of 15000 or less, depending of the gear i would buy except the space suit and mods.

My other idea for gear would be some sort of breacher / thermit charges for opening bulk heads etc. like the gel applicator they used in Firefly.

Yep, if you roll for medium rarity and succeed you get access to all medium rarity gear and lower (so that means you have access to all Low and None rarity gear). The only exception that if it's restricted you can't get it at character creation (special skill withstanding).

We'll call that Thermite Gel (handy as it doesn't need an external source of oxygen to burn). Thermite Gel is sold in tubes of 2 liters (500 per) or 8 liter containers (2000 per) that can attached to a sprayer for hand free use. Both come prepackeged with ignition sticks. It's not restricted (because it is not an explosive) and to use it is just a dexterity roll to make sure it's placed in the area you want it to be. Its legality on space habitats is a little dubious because it can pose a major threat to infrastructure and safety when used incorrectly or for nefarious means.

I also have Bulkhead Shears which is a super fancy jaws of life thing. Designed to rip up parts of a ships bulkhead. Very good at tearing open airlocks. Their cost is 2000, not restricted, and to use them is the Heavy Machinery skill. They can double as an improvised weapons using the Heavy Machinery skill as well.

Never been too enthusiast of "% allowance" of POSSIBILITY for Gear (despised it in Infinity-RPG and UTTERLY HATED in WH40K Systems after Dark Heresy) for the risk of failure (Veteran Soldier, but anyway have Faith in Solodice providing a well-balanced, well-thought System. . .

Will anyway calculate ALSO a "Minimum Wargear" with the BASIC 20.000 allowance; the CHEAPEST Spacesuit affording a modicum of protection and JUST 2 Firearms. . .

For "Close Engagements": Long Barrell OR Sawed-Off Shotgun with the HEAVIEST Ammo Capacity allowed to Civilian / Paramilitary Enforcers (so essentially an "Ithaca Stakeout" with BIG Drum Ammo Clip !!). . .

Should Big Drum Clips for 3rd. Bursts too restricted even for Ex Military Cops then TWO Pump Shotguns would be good; if a pitched battle will NOT allow easy reloads (1 Slug at time in the Tubular Magazine could be painfully slow from a Tactical Standpoint !!) I will pop-up the second fully loaded Gun, that could ALSO be borrowed to another Ally. . .!!

Long Range Shooting: Big Revolver (a Cassull / Lineabaugh 5-Shots Ammo-Wheel; just a Basic Scope on the firecastle and/or Underbarrell Red-Dot Lasersight). . .

The "Megarevolver" would be VERY advantageous for MANY issues: reliable and simple to maintain (to the point of being able to be "Rebuilt" within the Ship repair bay. . .!!), sturdy against Void / Hazmat exposures and QUITE intimidating if put directly under the nose of a drunk Asteroid-Miner in a Station Bar "Mexican Standoff". . .

Both kind of Firearm mechanism would also be able to be quickly loaded with "Special Ammo" should the need arise (single Chem-Payload / Nonlethal Rubber shotgun slug in the Firing Chamber; open the wheel or employ "Peacemaker Slit-Lever" for Anti-Ship Armor-Piercing Rounds for the Revolver). . .

Just to be able to be effective with MINIMUM EXPENSE at an EARLY Start of the Game!!!

I will try to go with a medium acquisition roll, and use one of my contacts to improve the rarity modifier by 10%.
My best chance is therefore Bureaucracy with 50% -> i need to roll 50% or lower. Result 50 https://orokos.com/roll/749634

Then i will go with the back alley version i take the 15k.
This gives me 35k to work with.

I think suit wise i would go with a GUS and add Redundancy(2) for 4k, so in total 29k.
It is amazing since the Gus is an affordable class 3 suit.

In total 6k remaining for equipment.
I will take a heavy pistol as a sidearm. Maybe with a targeting laser, a survival kit and a multi-tool.
Not sure about the costs for that stuff.
Further i take GCocktail x6 for 300 money.

For the two mods you bought which ones on the Press Ganger are they replacing? The suit can only hold a max of 4 mods at once. I would suggest switching out Lifestyle (Unionite) and Impact Armor for the two you want.

The point of it is balancing and also to give face characters other things to do other than being good at social stuff. On a crew you want a good quartermaster/businessman who can get you stuff.

Also things like calibers doesn't matter in this system. I will assume that everyone with medium pistols will have compatible ammo and so on.

Also lets get some rolls in for gear, Steven.

Heretical and Moosey. I don't like cracking the whip all that often but if I don't see character sheets in the PC thread by the end of this Sunday I'll be giving your spots up. If you can't give me 30 minutes one day out of the week then I can't expect you to do the same when it comes to posting for the game itself. If you have circumstances keeping you from doing so please PM them to me since I am reasonable and know that life comes first before hobbies.

No problem with Your choices, as I said beforehand, Your Game. . . . .Your Rules!!!

Had some issue with coworkers in the last two days, so could not roll and finish the game-correct sheet in the time that I wanted to, but Today SHOULD solve and complete everything. . .!!

As for the two "Missing Crewmember PC" then I'm sorry if they could NOT manage to join us, but if YOU want to start early, and the search for reliable Players take too much, why not "Fill" the needed spot with some "Faceless Mooks", some Non-Player Characters with subpar skills that we rummaged in seedy satellite-cantinas or rusty dockyard. . .??

In that manner we could ANYWAY start when is good to, without too much of an hassle. . .

When we will have reached the desired quota of PLAYER Character for the crew, then we will dump the low-levels to make space for the "True" players. .

I suggest this because I believe that You intended the Bucket to be crewed ONLY by the 5 PC, and not a "Full Crew Number" of NPC helpers, with the possible exception of Skilled "Paying Passengers" that we ferry for Mission-Related trips. . . . .???

It can crewed by 6 but for my own sanity I only want to handle 4 to 5 players. Doesn't mean you can't hire on some NPC crewmates. Right now though the Bucket crew is strapped for cash. I wouldn't mind giving you all NPC crewmates to round out the team until we get more player characters. They could be rented hands or maybe they become part of the bigger crew if deemed worthy. They will strictly be NPCs though as I have no want (and I despise the practice of it) of a GM PC.

If it comes to that it comes to that to get this game running in a reasonable time.

I took the numbers and got around 3,5k left, will see what we will need and spend something for ammo or i will probably need to throw the guns. Very Happy

For the space suit mods, the scanner will replace the Lifestyle (Unionite) for the Grappler i am not realy sure what will be better. Either keep mobility or keep the suit more sturdy.
I am not sure, what will be better suited for my caracter i need a bit more time to wrap my head around that. Cause a class 3 suit like the press ganger already comes equipped with standard maneuvering thrusters.

Yesterday Evening, before Midnight wanted to link to the "Spotty-As-Hell" Free Wi-Fi that I have here in the "Sun-Bleached Frontier" of Sardinia Island (here in Summery Work; usually I reside, and operate, in Genoa, Northern Mainland of Continental Italy !!). . .

But Yesterday was a very tiring day and I did not EVEN managed to crawl out of bed (notwithstanding a very jarring Clock-Ring) !!!

That because the BEST Free Wi-Fi place is the Exterior of a Home Location Office where, in the coolest Night Hours, I could sat down comfly with my Laptop on a not-jarringly illuminated spot. . .

Now I'm writing from the Smartphone, that have a PAINFULLY Small Screen and that have A LOT OF Problems with downloading new apps (such as LINE that continues to elude Me like a self-aware malicious "Data-Daemon" focused on My irritation !!!)

Today I will TRY my best to employ Orokos for the needed Rolls, so that my Player Character will be complete and ready to "Rock'N'Roll" when YOU are ready to start. . . . .!!!

Thank you. I played to much gear porn RPGs like Shadowrun to not go over board with starting gear if it doesnt fit.

Personly i think i could use the leftover funds for some bigger toolbox for a small ship workshop or something, when we get to our trusted vehicle.

Alright I'll put the rolls here for you Steven:

Going for medium rarity and dropping a contact down by 1 point to bring the modifier to 0%. Using Bureaucracy to make the acquisition roll.

Acquisition: 1d100 84

Failure. Means he only has access to low or none rarity items.

Time to try for a loan (doesn't hurt to try). Using Bureaucracy (which for this roll is a -10%) and looking to get 20% or below.

Bureaucracy: 1d100 20

Boom. On the dot. Brando has 50,000 to play with and owes money to a bank instead of some gangsters.  

Now for gear:

Suit: Traveler Cruiser Mk6 (good armor, pretty good mods, great price for a class 3 suit... maybe to good and I might need to revisit pricing on it and the GUS as well but whatever... it's a playtest for this reason!) - 28,000

Suit Mod: Combat Webbing - 700 (brings the suit up to its max amount of mods)

Weapons:

Heavy Pistol w/Target Laser - 800

Light Rifle w/Target Laser & Telescopic Sight - 2000

Shotgun w/Target Laser - 400

4 GLOO Grenades (quick acting foam designed to seal breaches in a hull and has been found to be handy in non-lethal uses against people). - 400

Stun Baton - 250

Stunner - 400 (a 5m, 10 shot, taser like weapon that counts as a light pistol)

Tool Kit - 250

3 Flex Cuffs - 45

Total: 33,645 (have 16,355 in savings)

This is for all players: Weapons come with 2 full magazines when bought. Shotguns come with one magazine of shot and one of slugs. If you want extra ammo here's the listings:

Light Pistol ammo
- 100 round box: 80
- 500 round box: 200
- 1000 round can: 400

Medium Pistol ammo  
- 100 round box: 100
- 500 round box: 500
- 1000 round can: 1000

Heavy Pistol ammo
100 round box: 180

Could have been FAR worse if I had mis-tried Roll Meanings and Functionings!!

Could I know how much Ammo my guns carry. . .?

In particular the Shotguns is important to know if it is a "Vintage Classic" Tubular Magazine Underbarrell (the longests of whom, in Real Contemporary holds typically 8+1 Shotgun Slugs; painfully slow to TOTALLY reload, but 1-2 Shells at Round SHOULD be quicker, far quicker. . . . .also VERY handy if needing to load "Special Ordnance for Special Targets" !!). . .

If is instead a "Assault Rifle-Shaped" C.A.W.S. how much load could carry the Clips (Franchi / Beretta firms of Italian Shotguns have 10 Slugs straight clips, 20 Slugs in oversized "Banana" Clips and SHOULD be able to mount the rarer, customs "Ammo-Wheel Drum-Clips" that would range, size-wise from 30 to 40 Shotgun Slugs). . .

I will be good with either options, anyway. . .!!

As soon as I would be able to "calculate" some prices for NEEDED Extra Ammo will buy some MORE "Ammo Boxes" AND Extra Spare Clips (if possible the LARGEST SIZED available, for when "Manure Hits The Aeration Ducts" !!!). . .

Not ONLY for My character guns (that if needed I will share with other Players in need) but for THEIR weapons too as "Calibre Type" of SAME "Gun Class" then You said doesn't matter. . .

Will ALSO try to understand BETTER the "Gunsmithing / Ammo Crafting" Rules to start to scrounge up Special Ammo and "Weapon Gadgets" for everyone. . . . .!!!

For the light rifle it's 30 and the heavy pistol is 10. I gave you a pump shotgun (which is a max ammo of 9) as I consider any semi-auto shotguns to be medium rarity and they have the price tag to go along with it (at least for ones that don't jam all the damn time).

From a PURELY Cosmetic point of view could we say (so that I can draw a good Character Illustration):

1°) Heavy Pistol; "Luigi Franchi" is the Italian Gun Firm specialized in rather powerful firearms (such as the S.P.A.S.-12, immortalized by Schwarzenegger in the first Terminator Movie, or the S.P.A.S.-15, one of first of the "Clip Fed" Tactical Shotguns that I had the privilege of shooting 25+ Years ago !!). . .

Let's say the Franchi factory has made an Italian version of Israeli's made IMI "Desert Eagle" (chambered in .44magnum / .50AE). . .??

Lasersight over-castle (between the iron-sights !!) or mounted underneath the barrel like in the SOCOM-Specials kind of "Special Forces Handguns". . .??

A Version of their best known Deluxe Hunt Guns with the Lasersight over the firing castle (the ironsight placement) combined with a very basic close-combat "Red Dot" tac-scope. . .??

And I imagine that Halogen Torchlight are quite miniaturized in 2070; could I mount one alongside the main barrell, to explore better "Nasty Dark Places". . . . .???

3°) Light Rifle; I don't remember if You allowed at least a 3-Rounds Burst capable Longarm, (I think is Out-Of-Range of my allowed "Price Tags". . .) but as is a "Dedicated Sniper-Marksman Weapon" the issue is moot; perfectly good with a "Civilian Semiauto Rifle" model That shoot ONE Single Shot for EACH squeeze of the trigger. . .

Will any kind / model of Beretta Paramilitary Rifles be good; such as a Civilian AR70/90 . . .??

A basic folding bipod (don't know if Rules will change or not) would be able to be had. . .??

I imagine Lasersight and Optical Scope would be combined on the "aft rear-castle" in a rather cumbersome ensemble; would I be able to enclose the precious, fragile optics in a reinforced case to avoid unwanted crashes and misalignments. . .??

Thanks, I will try to draw something that will show clearly what I intended for "Wargear Gadgets". . .

Had yet attempted to draw something akin the "Argus Gendarme" suit from the Image Reference that You presented, but the other cheaper Suit will not be so different graphically. . .

1. Ceres is a pretty high traffic place but knowing a Ceres port authority agent or flight controller can give you a safe place to dock and avoid suspicious eyes. Carcosa is much rougher but its a great place to lay low. Knowing a member from one of the crime groups is one way or even better is knowing someone from the Hatchet Men as they control and have their HQ in the dock district (Con Air) of Carcosa. Other safe ports around the solar system would be Station's 13, and 2, Argo, or the Fancy Pants Fleet.
2. Nope, no story is needed. You just know you owe them money.

Also, we're almost done with character creation. Along the way we've lost two players but it won't cause the game to ground to a halt. We'll keep moving right along.

So what's next? Well we're finally at the ship. To show that the Bucket isn't a brand new ship I'll be presenting you, the crew, with some mod packages that the Bucket might of had in its previous life. Remember that an H-20 Goose only has 7 mod/weapons slots. So vote on these wisely.

Once a Scrapper Always a Scrapper - 4 mod slots
- 1 Long Reach Waldo (a remote controlled arm that comes fitted with bulkhead shears, a laser cutter, and industrial multi-tool. This long reach version extends out to 12 meters which is much longer then a normal Waldo)
- Utility Hanger (can fit any small sized craft)
- Pick One: U-12 Skitter or GS-21 Crayfish
- Workshop (grants benefits to Craft and Science skills and makes working on or creating suits, weapons, gear, etc. much easier)
- Salvage Locker (comes stocked with: 1 Bulkhead Shear; 2, 8 Liter containers of Thermite Gel, 2 Laser Cutters, 2 Survival Kits, 4 Multi-tools)

Jack of Spades - 4 mod slots
- Utility Locker (comes stocked with: 3 Field Tool Kits, 20 Hull Patches, 2 Industrial Multi-tools, 15 Gallons of Instacrete, 1 Grenade Launcher with 15 GLOO rounds, 2 Sprayers, 1 Spare Press Ganger)
- Medical Bay (can hold up to 6 patients. Grants benefits to First Aid, Medicine, and Surgery skills. Also has automated healing beds which have First Aid: 45%)
- 1 Small Missile Rack (5 SSSMs and 5 Scattershot Missiles)

Smuggling This and That - 4 mod slots
- Small Smugglers Compartment (can hold 1 ton and is shielded from scans and is hard to find during a physical search)
- Cargo Hold Expansion (gain 20 more tons of cargo space)
- 1 Small Rover (can hold up to 4 passengers and 1 ton of cargo)
- 4 Medium Hardpoints (4 SSSMs and 4 Decoy Missiles)

Mercenary Surplus - 5 mod slots
- 3 PDCs (Port, Starboard, Ventral)
- 1 Small Missile Rack (10 SSSMs)

I think that at the moment we are quite a "Civilian Rescue Crew" rather than a dedicated "Paramilitary Merc Enterprise". . .

Even if the "Merc" Option will be, for Me, very tempting for all the nice "Free Vehicular Weapons" what I think would be the BEST possible optio would be to try to combine "Scrapper" with "Jack Of Spades" based on the needs of the other Two player characters. . .

In fact adding a "Jack's Med Bay" to the Scrapper will offer us the MOST of the available detailed options; in that manner We could act as a "multi-role" Rescue - Salvagers Team where I could contribute to Non-Combat Skills with my (meager) %. . .

Open to discuss everything with fellow Players AND GM, that, maybe has YET some "Pre-Planned" ideas about where and what we could explore the "Retrograde Solar System". . . . .

You can't pick and choose stuff out of the packages. It's an all or nothing thing. You also can't combo any of these packages together as that will put you over the ships mod/weapon slot cap (kind of like I did that on purpose or something).

Thought of another POTENTIALLY important issue. . .

Shiuld we three Players "Pool" the remaining Money of our Characters and draw a list of BASIC, vital supplies that we need (Ammo, Extra light Weapons, First Aid Kit, useful "Lifesaver" Drugs, C-Rations, expendables for Hazmat / "Void Rescue" materials and so on). . .

Also does not know WELL how much "Spare Parts / Reusable Junk / Chem Supplies / Raw Ore" is needed, but I think that Drunk's Character could easily build much-needed "Rescue Basics" and I can scrounge up ALL Manners of Special Ammo and Guns Gadgetry. . . . .

Should we consider this "Ship Workbench Production" perhaps MAYBE an "Hefty Discount" on the prices of SOME Consumables. . . . . .???

Regarding the ship packages
I also favour  `Jack of Spades` and `Once a Scrapper Always a Scrapper`.
Not sure what is the best option. I lean a bit more towards the scapper, since i like the workshop
and the small hanger. And the medbay is so big that i have the feeling we would be riding an ambulance

Personly i think the Scrapper package will give us the most versatility for the start of our space adventure as the workshop will grant us slot of tools to do our own stuff.

The Jack of Spades looks more like an option for some sort of rescue vehicle.
I think later we will be able to change the rest of the mods to our needs.

But i think Stevenart74 is right to get some basic pool of ammunition and other supplies we may need.

For your information, i may be not posting the next 2 days as ther is a big Fantasy and Roleplaying Convention right at my front door and i want to see some sexy cosplayers in real life. Razz

So it's a tie between Scrapper and Jack.

I will say Scrapper is probably the most versatile but it lacks in the weapons department. Jack is a little more focused but at least it comes with a missile rack. Depends on if you guys don't mind feeling a little naked out in the void and trust you pilot, sensors, and comms, to keep you alive with the scrapper package.

Yes, you will be able to swap stuff out later if you want.

Personally I think is a good, solid choice and will give us many more "Work Options" than "Improvised Space Rescuers" that is a difficult prospect with just three Player Characters. . .

As for acquiring Ammo, "Medipacks" and other Consumables then I await Solodice's pronouncement on the possibility of buying in bulk "Raw Ingredients", process them with good enough rolls and then "Save Money" with our hard bench-work!!

If everyone likes Scrapper then that is what we'll go with.

So to keep the game from adding a sub-system for crafting I'll just say that if you pass the associated Craft or Science skill (with some modifiers of course to show complexity, lack of supplies, etc.) you can make an item. Now for extra equipment just tell me what you'd like in bulk and I can give you the price tag on it.

Also the ship won't just be crewed by 3 players. You will have 2 NPC crewmates to fill out the team. You will be picking them. They range in profession, skills, and of course how much their cuts are on jobs.

So for the crew of the Bucket's consideration:

Angus Mackie - British
- Profession: Navvy
- Last Job: Contract worker for Sjortik (Norwegian construction firm that builds domes on planets like Mars)
- Cut: 10%
- Pros: Mechanically inclined, good with his hands in a fight, is pretty versatile but he's never going to be great at one thing
- Cons: No weapons skills, no contacts, no niche skills, hot headed, and stubborn during conflicts

Nathan Humphrey - American
- Profession: Crew Chief
- Last Job: Crew chief for Stellar America
- Cut: 20%
- Pros: Mechanic, good contacts, has bureaucratic skills, good at talking to people, weapons training
- Cons: Worked for a CIA company, drinking issues, skirt chaser

Seb Rollins - Ceresman
- Profession: Intelligence Operative
- Last Job: Argus Consultants
- Cut: 20%
- Pros: Very skilled in the arts of SIGINT, data collection, and monitoring; weapon training, okay at talking to people, great contacts
- Cons: In serious debt with Turbo Kids Deluxe (one of the six controlling crime orgs of Carcosa)

Was aware that You would add NPC's to "Fill Up" the crew positions; was saying that JUST Three Players would take significant decisions, useful.actions and meamingful skillsets. . .

The Four NPC that You provided are very interesting and quite entertaining insofar Cultural Background and "Innate Problems". . .

As you said that Automation and Computer-Controlled System in "Retrograde" are quite primitive, and the "Bucket" is relatively a rather LARGE Vessel (human-sized shapes: 3-4 in the cockpit / 4-5 around and outside in the reference image that You provided, and that I'm re-elaborating graphically; I believe it hints at the spacious "Prometheus"of Aliens, if is not THE specific concept art !!). . .

So why not take ALL FOUR of them. . .??

They seems rather competent in their narrow field, entertaining to roleplay with and their LIMITED Skillset and "Past Story Issues" prevent them from becoming "Our Private Army Of Competent Overqualified Mooks". . . . . !!!

To.avoid our Gamemaster a devastating "Book-Keeping Migraine-Headache" then MAYBE each Player Character could "Adopt" one of the NPC to "pilot" him within the strict guidelines laid down by Solodice; the GM will then select beforehand the one to guide MOST suited to keep the Game well flowing and the useful "Plot Hooks" keeping coming. . . . .!!!

Should a NEW Player arrive suddendly "In Medias Res" He/She could elect to "Take & Upgrade" one of the "Old Timers"; this because the "Old Gag" of the captured Elite kept in a Cage-Cellar by Enemies, is not ONLY "Quie Stale" but ALSO.impractical for Voidfarer Pirates and Smugglers within a Small Asteroid Stronghold

It's not really that primitive. It's just retro in appearance and doesn't have the fancy UI we have. Automation is certainly around and there are drones in the settings (just not full scale use more like 45%).

Hiring all of those people will total up to them taking 75% of your cut from every job. Meaning it leaves the PCs with only 25% (split 3 ways so 8%). That's not even accounting for maintenance and ship upkeep costs... so basically you only have enough money to hire two of them.

O.K. so the book-keeping money is precisely counted on a crew of 5, no problem. . .

Thought, probably very erroneously, that MORE Crewmember would have granted MORE "Big-Size" works and so the net gain would have staid equal. . .

At the moment I cast the Vote on:

1°) Iranian Hacker Kid; useful for decrypting ALL manner of Digital Secrets and "Number Up" our forces, when needed, with well-piloted Drones. . .

2°) the "CIA Mechanic-Engineer"; useful skillset and contacts; My character too is a "Womanizer" so we could both offer "Wingman Help" to each one!!

As soon as I can re-read stuff a little will calculate how much spare money will invest in Extra Ammo and how much in "Raw Materials" with whom employ Skills% to self-produce stuff. . .

Maybe could be wise to make a "Total Tally" of ALL Players spare money and how much "Ship Consumables" we will need to invest into (ranging from Nonlethal Ammo to Medikits, from First Aid Drugs to "Ship Repair" stuff, and so on). . .

Personally will NOT have to spend ALL remaining cash in stuff IMMEDIATLY useful ar Game Start, but think is wise to discuss with fellow players. . .!!
