It was wise to avoid unnecessary conflict but it was also an opportunity to learn if one did lurk in the floating plants. Gorthrax cranes his neck to look at Elanro "Wise to be cautious, but what if they are harmless? It would be best to find out what we can, yes?"

Gorthrax was curious about the plants but didn't particularly care either way, the beasts at the oasis could no doubt wait an extra day or two.

Vra'fa leaned forward in her seat with interest, her chin just above Na'no's shoulder. At this distance the dark shape still looked like a cloud but she trusted that Gorthrax was right. Floating plants in numbers this size? She had never seen anything remotely similar to this and she was fascinated. What would it be like to fly through it, a green river of life running through the sky?

"How about we fly closer to it and judge a bit closer? We are not in an especial hurry but our resources are not infinite and it would be wise to not take an unnecessary delay. If it looks like it won't do any damage to our ship or contain wild creatures we should fly through."

Even though Na'No doesn't like when others come close to her private space, she has no problem with Vra'fa leaning over. It seems that she starts feeling really comfortable next to her. Having another Tau around her that could lead to a possible friendship gives her strength. Never had she thought that a Water Caste would be so interested in her stories.

"We are coming closer. It should need no longer than a Dec to be right inside the storm." Art'ol keeps blinking on the front of the TX. The drone made records of the sinister appearance. The storm had a intriguing appeal.

With the decision made, Na'no powered the TX5 up and headed straight for the mass. The closer you get, the more easy it is to distinguish what they really are. It was as Gorthrax had said; plant life by the thousands floated in a great mass. The lowest were about ten meters off the ground, while the highest stretched up and up, easily one hundred meters or more.

Both small and large specimens were present. Thick, rounded brown foundations, which looked far too heavy to float, branched up into bright white, blue, and teal flowers. They bobbed up and down slowly, as though on unseen waves. Beneath them, the desert floor was bathed in extremely inviting shadows - a respite from the harsh suns.

While the Piranha bobbed there, Elanro lifted himself up out of his seat, and pulled out his rifle, aiming it towards the mass of plants. He put his eye in the sight, scanning the edge of the mass, trying to spot any other signs of life. Afterwards he scanned bellow, looking for irregularly moving spots of shadow and light. Such a dense thicket could easily mask larger life-forms, but their movement out of sinc with the shadows below could give them away.

Vra'fa's eyes were wide and her mouth slightly open as she stared in wonder at the sight before her, a forest of life literally taken to the skies. It just didn't seem possible. Some of the plants seemed like they might have serious weight. Perhaps they were hollow or porus? Were they so light that the suns heat caused them to rise up like this? Or could it be other forces at play?
Vra'fa wished she knew a little more about natural biology, but her failure to understand didn't detract from the rush of blood to her face and her beaming smile. This is what it meant to travel the stars, to see things one wouldn't even imagine back home.
She glanced over to look at Elanro to see he was pointing his weapon up and down at the mass. Maybe sites like this were more commonplace to him. At least his gun wasn't pointed inside the vehicle.

"I feel like I need to rub my eyes... This is just so... Its amazing. It shouldn't be possible and yet... It's truly a wonder of this planet."

She contemplated the floating masses for another moment before getting control of herself.
"Perhaps we could fly underneath them? It looks like we should have enough space."

Elanro looked at the image, eying it suspiciously:

Sure, we could go under. But be careful with any flames, it could be flammable gases keeping that zogg up in place.

The floating meadow continues to bob and weave peacefully, despite the suspicious glares thrown its way.

Vra'fa nodded as the old fire warrior spoke, one finger on her cheek.
"Ah it could be that. I was imagining it was something to do with the sunlight. If it is that, there might be some low lying heavy gasses. If anyone notices any problem with their breathing we should turn around immediately."
She gave Elarno a grin.
"That's a good point Shas'la Elanro. We should probably refrain from firing any of our weapons while underneath this."
Privately she was amused by the symbolism of the warrior asking for care to be taken around his own element but kept this to herself.
"Shall we go then? See if it feels safe under there and if so continue our journey onward."

I would have wanted to check weather the TX5 had some leak on cables and electricity but since we repair it, this should be save. She was answering the gas concerns. Na'No speaks slowly and with appreciation for this environment. It almost feels like she would whisper it more to herself than to the others.

She feels calmed because of the surroundings. The waves on the ground reminds her of a phenomenon that she knows from her home planet; the mirage of a fata morgana which sometimes appears when thermal inversion happens.

Na'No slows the TX down. But since no one of the expedition members were sure or not weather to go forward she drives strictly in the direction of the weaving meadow and was right about to bring all members of the team under the floating beauties. Her drone keeps blinking and record the phenomenon.

Gorthrax stared at the floating plants as the others spoke. Any good scout and survivalist would get out and look ahead at this point, it was also what he was paid to do, he almost couldn't be bothered comfortable to a degree in his cramped seat. Ideally they'd separate one of the plants from the others at the edge of the 'cloud' and see if it had any affect, perhaps shoot it to see if it exploded or something. They were out of reach though so that was even more effort than scouting ahead.

He lets out a quiet clicking noise "Fine" in Kroot, before standing and leaping down from the TX5.

"I'll scout ahead some, stay two hundred long strides behind me. If we're good after the time it takes to eat your morning food I'll get back in the craft."
he says in Tau with a backward glance.

Bok pokes his head up from the back compartment as Gorthrax lets out a sharp whistle and at a gesture bounds to his master side. After a brief stroke of Boks head spines Gorthrax starts to range ahead into the forest of the floating fauna.

Gorthrax ventures out under the floating forest and immediately feels the temperature change. Not only were they blocking him from the direct rays of the suns, casting shadows for miles and miles, they were also insulating the area underneath. It was similar to being underground. Any breeze that came through was cooled and it was quite comfortable.

The plants themselves continue to bob peacefully some thirty feet above his head. None of them come crashing down and nothing jumps out to attack him.

Vra'fa was still leaning forward, perched on the edge of her seat, looking over Na'no's shoulder at the moving figure of the Kroot. His skin was dappled with the hues of the different moving shadows from the floating forest. Unaware that she was doing so, her fingers tightened on the edge of her compartment as she waited for something to happen. But the scene before her didn't shift or change, other than the shape of Gorthrax slowly getting smaller. She breathed out the breath she was holding, and felt her heartbeat start to slow again. Suddenly shaking her head, she giggled and looked over at the Earth caste with a broad smile.
"I was actually a bit worried there for a second. Not even sure what I was expecting- perhaps the trees to take revenge on us for the blood we have made them spill."
Casting a brief look over at the Fire Warrior next to her she continued.
"Thankfully it looks like his cloaca is safe for now."

They hung in the air for a while watching as the Kroot continued.
"I'm no expert Na'no but does that look about 200 long paces about now?"
She grinned again at the pilot.
"Should we go forth and experience it for ourselves?"

Gorthrax trudged on, happy to be out of the glare of the twin suns and away from the natter of the Tau for a while. He found the environment relaxing which pulled against his attention which he tried to keep focused on being a scout instead of his desire to hit the sky. He was almost always thinking about his needs. Perhaps tonight if the opportunity presented itself.

He paused and looked back at the stationary vehicle of his companions, it had been 220 long strides now. What were they waiting for. Beckoning for them to follow he trudges on. While walking he stretches his left arm up, trying to loosen the scar tissue that tightly covered him, it never helped but it was like scratching an itch.

Gorthrax notices a ripple in the shadows. Dozens of smaller shadows move across the light that broke through the trees. Looking up, the kroot sees flocks of small avian creatures moving from small island to small island.

Na'No listened to Vra'fa while seeing Gorthrax continue move along. Just as Vra'fa asked to continue she saw the big silhouette from the Kroot waving in the back. Na'No started the engine with a slick handmove. "This is so peaceful. It doensn't reminds me of a cloaca at all." She smiled. Vra'fas and her hair began to wave a bit with the sudden movement. She felt slighty goose bumps on her skin as they going further. It's just the sudden change from heat to this coldness, she thinks to herself.
"Yeah, the trees would take revenge on us" she brings out a weak laughing while repeating what Vra'fa said. She was distracted as she notices that Gorthrax suddenly stoped walking. The TX5 was about 100 long strides behind the Kroot. Boks posture seems to change as well.

He pauses for a moment studying the creature’s flight path, trying to ascertain if a predator had caused the movement. Gorthrax didn’t think they looked like a threat and if they had been disturbed it was more likely due to him and Bok or the TX5. It was rumoured by Shapers that some Kroot had wings, it must be exhilarating to fly like a bird he thought. As his companions get closer he simply stands there, his head up watching the flying creatures jealous of their freedom.

Ya dont want to underestimate trees kid...

Elanro was on high alert, constantly scanning his surroundings. He tried to seem relaxed as he sat in his seat, but the tenseness of his body was clear to see.

The TX reached Gorthrax. Na'No stopped the engine some meters behind the Kroot. "What is going on there, Gorthrax?" She notices that the Kroot stood there more fascinated than in shock. After making sure that the Pulse Pistol is at its right place at the fatigue - right next to her nano tool, Na'No jumped over the vehicle door. As she walked towards Gorthrax she noticed the flying shadows over their heads. "Is this something we should be afraid of?" She noticed how well the small moving shadows blend in the trees. What a nice place to hide, she thinks to herself. She stood right next to her drone.

The creatures, a small flock, dart through the openings quickly. While moving around in erratic patterns, they do not seem to be being chased by any sort of predator.

After a pause Gorthrax eventually looks down at Na'No. It had been a welcome distraction, a few minutes of peace he'd managed to grab himself.

"Studying them. I learn their patterns and so am able to read them when a predator or some other peril is nearby." he speaks quietly in his halting Tau, not wanting to disturb the birds. "All seems safe, perhaps we should get going." Gorthrax gestures at the TX.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bok sniffs at Na'No and then looks back at his master. Gorthrax ignores him. -whine-

No orders were to stay close. This gave Bok some wiggle room. He stalks around Na'No sniffing at her at her from a few feet away, the kroot hound was clearly wild and gave the impression is was not to be pet. It was however inquisitive and drank in the smell of one of its masters pack.

That Kroot has got the right idea kids, you can learn from that.

He looked up, trying to get an idea of the natural rythms of the flying forest.

It was definitely cooler under the shade of the... floating plants? She had expected it but a flurry of goose-pimples rose up her arm in response. Absently pressing down on them with her free hand, she stared out of the sides, curious to see if she could spot any signs of life. When the Earth caste mentioned about the 'cloaca', she grinned broadly and gave the pilot a wink before settling back in her seat.
When she noticed Gorthrax was suddenly still and staring up into the plants, she craned her neck and attempted to spot what he could see but failed to see anything beyond the gentle movements of the plants.

She remained in her seat when Na'no quickly hopped down. Naturally she would have preferred to explore for herself but she had the sense that this wasn't to be a long stop and considering the amount of time it would take her to get down, it was probably not worth it. Almost like it was responding to her call, she felt a twinge of pain and cramp from her leg. Carefully reaching down to cup her knee and then gently lift the limb, she rested it, fulled extended on the lip, running around the edge of her seat. The angle meant that she had to scoot forward a little, lowering her viewpoint but it was ok for the moment. She'd pull her leg back in once they were moving again.

Looking over at the Fire Warrior as he spoke, she gave him a smile.
"Indeed Shas'La Elanro. Its an important skill for everyone to learn, to properly judge a situation before making a move. As the old saying goes. Golg grath’im’la ugaal lek eio'ko'io."

Reaching forward to give her shin an absent squeeze, she looked up again at the floating wonder above them and then back to her companion properly noticing for the first time how rigid and tense he was.
"I wonder how long it will take us to get to the other side?" She paused a moment before continuing
"I'm guessing also you don't have a lot of positive experiences in forests, even if they aren't floating."

Patterns, Gorthrax words get through Nan'Nos head. The possibilities of using patterns to increase stealth levels was something that Na'No would love to investigate further. But Elanros immediacy to continue breathes down her neck. "I agree, let's continue." Na'No blinked to see more through the light and shadows.

When thinking about the flying shadows and their stealth abillity, Na'No turned herself to the TX while Bok came closer to her. Never had she seen him that close. The Hound seems to be really interested and sniffes in her direction. The weird sound from his nostrils also produces a little gust of warm wind. Na'No could feel it on her hand as she reaches out to him. From a distance Bok seems dangerous to her but as he came closer she could see his fierce facial characteristics got intermitted from Bok faithful eyes. She was not willing to touch him yet.

When Gorthrax keeps moving in the direction of the TX5, Bok seems to follow its herd leader. Na'No giggles to herself while she was making up a story in her mind. It was about how Bok tries to snuggle with Gorthrax. But he was all grumpy about it and yelled at his hound. Na'No puts a hand in front of her mouth to not snort with laughter.

Gorthrax shooed Bok away with a gesture towards the cargo compartment. The sooner they were away from this place, the sooner they would find a camping site the sooner he could satisfy his itch.

Nevertheless it was important that Bok was comfortable amongst this temporary new pack, because that was how the hound saw it; a pack. Gorthrax was obviously the alpha and so Bok would want to find his place amongst them.

The kroot turns to the earth caste "Na-no, you and Bok can make friends later. If she wishes it, remember she has a very nasty bite." he says slightly scoldingly, he was getting peevish. "Now lets get going."

After deciding that it was time to move on, the small group hopped back in the TX5. Na'no powered up the vehicle and once more they were off. The floating forest did a good job of blocking the sun and the drive was pleasant if uneventful. Perhaps that was why the entirety of the party didn't notice the subtle changes occurring above them.

The flocks of small avian creatures had disappeared completely. The vehicle's low humming engine, and the wind passing over its occupants, masked the silence that had grown around them.

Na'no was taken completely by surprise as the vehicle's front proximity sensors started flashing immediate-impact warnings. She could see nothing ahead of her and had no time to react. There were a series of hard thumps followed in rapid succession by what sounded like a thick rope snapping.

After a few seconds, the vehicle hit something that didn't snap. It lurched violently to a stop with incredible force. Seat restraints snapped under the pressure. As the TX5's rear end lurched up, the party was thrown out...

...As each member of the expedition regains consciousness, they find that they can't move. Both themselves and the vehicle are suspended in the air, stuck in a gigantic web.

Elanro wakes up. Seeing their predicament, he swears Zog under his breath (not wanting to attract too much attention from the creator of the web). Knowing his strength is insufficient, he tries to wriggle free, to no success. He starts looking for an easier way out; there must be a weak link somewhere.

As they had progressed under the floating flora, Vra'fa's head had settled lower and lower on her folded arms, the shade and the repetitive throbbing of the engine lulling her into a doze. She was suddenly shocked awake as alarms blared and their craft shook as it crashed through something. Her eyes bleary and mind confused she opened her mouth to cry out when the Piranha suddenly pitched forward violently. The harness stabbed into her chest and then she was aware of nothing.

The brands burned into her ribs and she wanted to scream but couldn't summon any breath. She was being crushed! Her eyes opened but were semi blinded by tears. Her heart beat an attack rhythm and she still couldn't breathe. She tried to wipe away the tears but for some reason she couldn't move her arms. Slowly her vision cleared and she saw there was nothing on her chest, nothing squeezing the life out of her. She relaxed and as she did, found she could breathe again. Fire burned through her chest with each lungful but she was no longer choking. What exactly had happened? She tried to sit up but none of her limbs responded. Panic gripped her again as the thought entered her head.... what if she had broken her neck? Frantically she tried to wiggle her fingers and toes, and found that they were thankfully moving. Confused, she moved her eyes again and caught sight of the rest of the web.
Her mouth opened wide. How big must the creature be, who had created this? What would it look like?

"Is everyone else ok? I'm stuck in the web so I can't move or look about but otherwise I don't think I've injured myself any further."

There are some minor injuries as everyone begins to come to, but nothing devastating. The tilt and inertia had thrown the party in different ways forward.

Gorthrax had ended up on the far left of the webbing, with Na'no landing nearby to his right. Both Elan'ro and Vra'fa had been tossed to the front right, near one another.

While the four remain stuck in place, Na'no quickly realizes that only the top half of her clothing was stuck. Her legs dangled free. She began twisting and kicking them outward. With each kick she turned her body. Soon, her jumpsuit began tearing free of the web. After the fifth kick, she fell forward and landed on the hard earth with a thud.

She takes a few moments to catch her breath, but before anyone can breathe a sigh of relief, the web begins to shake from above...

Round 1
Floating Forest - Midday

Hearing the thud of someone hitting the earth, and the faint vibrations of something coming down the web, Elanro cried out: "Whoever got free, ya better be going to get something to cut us free, cause something is coming our way!"

He struggles again, but it is in vain.

+++

It was embarrassing, to be caught so easily; lulled to a false sense of security by the gentle floating plants. Perhaps the shaded light and the speed of their vehicle had made the web all but invisible. He bet Angpak would have seen it.

Gorthrax had naturally struggled initially but when he felt movement on the web, instinct kicked in.

-I will not be prey-

His wiry muscles strain and he bucks against against the web, the feral strength of his kind proving superior. Gorthrax tears himself free and falls to the ground.

Hearing Elanro's voice quite close to her right, Vra'fa assumed that he was nearby and in a similar situation to her. From what he had said though, either Gorthrax or Na'no had managed to get free. Such news was reassuring, and help slightly calm the beating in her chest. Still though, she felt a chill go through her.

Closing her eyes she tried to calm herself and concentrate on what she could feel and hear. What exactly had made the web shake like that? Her instinct was to try and pull herself free, to get away from whatever was up there, but her earlier attempt had proved her true helplessness. There was no way for her to get free. The best thing she could do was to remain still and try and learn as much as she could. But instead of calming her, closing her eyes seemed to make everything worse. Her thoughts seemed to be pressing into her head, constricting it. And all the while her heart seemed to be trying to break through her ribs. Come on Vra'fa, she thought, you have to relax. You are no worth to anyone like this.

Na'no wastes no time moving to cover. She was no fool. Whatever was coming down the web would most likely not be bringing snacks and tea. She would be the snack. Her blood the tea. She rushed to the rear of the downed TX5 and took cover, planning her next move carefully.

From above, the web begins to vibrate rapidly...

Round 2
Floating Forest - Midday

From the vibrations above emerged a creature roughly the size of Bok, if not slightly larger. It's emerald green carapace reflected brightly where the rays of the sun hit it. Eight hard and sharp legs expertly navigated the webbing as it made its way in a straight line toward the closest target - Elanro. It closes the distance in no time and immediately begins coating the Fire Warrior in a fine layer of nearly invisible webbing. As layer upon layer spray up and down his body, it begins to take on a silky white coloring.

Unnamed Creature:

+++

Elanro struggles to escape with that creature approaching to encase him in further webbing. This seemed like quite an ignominious way to die, as a snack. And the kids where running away like headless chickens. His mind went to dark places of despair, but only long enough to remember how he had escaped that ork that tried to bear-hug him to death. Unsocketing his joints, he moved his arms to take advantage of the slight space left by the webbing, fibers taught and kept away from the more flexible area due to the rigid armor. No dying today. He used what limited stamina he had left to make a tactical move to cover.

As he breaks free he feels a thud in his left shoulder pauldron that reverberated in his ears, even through his battle helm. Other than the abruptness of it, there was no physical harm done.

Gorthrax glanced up at the green carapaced arachnid as it wrapped Elanro in its web and the thought of the creature delivering its coup de grace to the snared Tau flashed across his mind. Such creatures were often poisonous. He once again saw Angpak's disapproving stare when he heard that Gorthrax had lost one of his charges. Even if it was a fire warrior who should be able to look after himself.

Looking left and right he spies his hunting rifle, there was no concern that it might be damaged. They were built sturdily and were designed to used in melee and with a Kroots great strength. As Gorthrax rushes towards the weapon he considers what to do when he gets it into his hands; a carefully placed shot might scare the beast away and as he didn’t fancy getting entangled in the web again made that plan look more agreeable.

The web was quivering around her, ripples of movement shaking her attached limbs. Fighting back against the urge to open her eyes or to try and rip herself free, Vra'fa concentrated on her breathing. She wasn't strong enough to break free, her original attempt had made that clear. Any additional attempt would only tire or injure her. Also there was a small chance if she didn't move that she might avoid the creatures attention for a while. Spiders on her home world sensed their prey via movement in the web itself. Her companions were all larger, stronger and more experienced than she was. She would place her trust in them. All she could do now was to try and learn what little she could.

However the information coming through to her was all so confusing. There was the sound of something slithering, like fabric rubbing against itself, heavy footfalls and deep breathing. And the steadily increasing rhythm of her heart. You have to fight this, she chanted to herself, you cannot give into the panic. Her companions were coming for her.

Round 2 Cont.

Na'No hides behind the TX5. She tries to melt into the surroundings. Be invisible! she speaks to herself. Art'ol was still rooted to the TX.

Na'No hears a dull sound. She scouted Elanro gets himself free and goes into cover thinking to herself: A true fire warrior. No need to cut him free of course. Her view wanders over to the terrifically shadow which forms the outer lines of a spider. She glances at Vra'Fa, also to far away to help her directly. Thinking of the versatile Fire Warriors and what Shadowsun would do she feels her Pulse Pistole on her waist. Come on, you can do it! She hold up the gun aiming the spider-shadow. She even uses both her hands to hold the weapon straight. Na'No quivers with emotions. Even though her surroundings were quite cold she could feel cold sweet on her frontal. She triggered the Pulse Pistol. A Shimmering light shot through the dark environment. Nothing happens.

Round 3

Floating Forest - Midday

The arachnid hisses. A mixture of frustration at losing its prey and being attacked would get on anyone's nerves, after all. It moves a few meters down, coming within three meters of Elan'ro and, with a hoist of its bottom, shoots a thick spray of webbing at the fire warrior. Luckily for Elanro, it goes well wide of the mark.

Round 3 Cont.
Floating Forest - Midday

Elanro quick-draws his pistol from it's holster, takes a bead on his target and fires. Click. Fizzz. The weapon malfunctions when he needs it most. (Pistol Jam; -1 Reload)

From above, a second alien life form crawls down the webbing on green legs. It makes its way toward Vra'fa and regards Elan'ro with eight of its ten black eyes. It quickly shoots a string of webbing at the fire warrior which is much more on target than the previous shot.

Round 3 Cont.
Floating Forest - Midday

Elan'ro easily ducks and sidesteps from the string of web aimed at him with an uncharacteristic grace for his age.

Gorthrax scoops up his rifle and swings it upwards while pulling the stock into his shoulder. He assumed Elanro could look after himself, Vra'fa on the other hand... What in an orcs arses name was she doing? She appeared to have stopped struggling and was what, talking to the thing? It looked hungry and little else to Gorthrax.

The thing was right on her so he'd have to take care with his shot. Drawing a bead down the rifles sights at the creatures central mass Gothrax inhales.

The sound of the shot startled Vra'fa and her eyes shot open. However she could still not see anything of interest. Her head was still immobilised and all the could see were the floating flora. There was an odd juxtaposition between such a formally calming sight and the fear currently coursing through her. Who had taken the shot? Who was free and who was still caught in the web? Moments later there was another sound and then Elanro spoke. The web continued to vibrate, except they were much greater in force now. She couldn't be sure, but a part of her was screaming that there was something nearby, somewhere in the darkness beyond her vision behind her. The hair stood up on her arms and she felt lightheaded as adrenaline pumped through her. But she couldn't do anything. Couldn't fight or fly. She was helpless and still, letting fate drag her away without a murmur. Or was she.

Closing her eyes for a second to gather herself, she stared down at the Polyglot Hedron still tucked into the belt of her robes, resting above her stomach. She wasn't sure what language these things might speak, she couldn't even see them. But she had to hope that it would be able to translate what she said to something they could understand.

"You don't want to continue" she spoke quietly down at her device.
"We are not your prey. If you move back no one will get hurt."

She now had the new arrival's full attention. If the arachnid understood her, however, it made no indication.

Round 3 Cont.
Floating Forest - Midday

With shaking hands Na'No quickly let loose the tension. Damn it! You need to concentrate. Her eyes wander over the TX5 while she hears Vra'Fa speaking. The water caste could possible calm the creature down. But what happens if not... While thinking to herself, the TX5 and its striking pulse carbine - which happens to directly face the creature - almost appeared intrusive in front of Na'Nos eyes. What if... With a slick move she slips onto the drivers seat. Be calm, you need to concentrate. She felt a tightness in her chest. It sets free after a short but intense burst of air released from her lungs. Now the massive weapon points directly at the creature. The little lights from the TX keeps blinking but all Na'No could see was the critter on the net. Wait there are more? Her eyes starred on the first creature with determination.

Round 4 Cont.
Floating Forest - Midday

Elanro realizes that he doesn't have time to fix his pistol - not when lives were at stake. He spots his pulse rifle and takes off at a full run toward it. With his pistol in his hand, he would need to holster it or drop it before picking up the rifle...

The second arachnid moves back to Vra'fa - the only prey still on the web - and assists in speeding up the job of its comrade. With the new layers of webbing applied, it begins moving with its prey back up the web. (Vra'fa and the arachnid will be out of sight in two rounds)

As Gorthrax inhales he holds the rifle steady maintaining a bead on the creatures centre mass. It was good to hold the rifle, it brought some measure of calm to Gorthrax as he went through the ritual of taking a shot. Time seemed to slow. He exhaled and then held his breath, in this moment of stillness the rifle held rock steady. Gorthrax pulled the trigger, there was a loud cracking noise as the rifle fired, the avian creatures took to the sky at the noise.

The shot was true, but the creature moved about and it might have chitinous armour to repel his shot. At worst he hoped it would at least distract the creature away from Vra'fa.

Vra'fa hears the crack and feels a warm liquid pour over the webbing, seeping through and dripping onto her face... as she realizes it is the creatures blood, it takes everything in her power not to lose her calm. (+10 Fear test from Vra'fa please)

Vra'fa waited, her ears straining for any sound from the creatures. If she could at least see them, she would have had a better idea if her words were likely to have any effect on them, but they were somewhere behind her immobilised head. Even with her eyeballs rolled back to the point of extreme discomfort it was useless. She could feel them moving on the strings of the web itself but no more.

Suddenly there was a different noise, like air escaping from a puncture. For a second hope flared through her and she looked down to the Hedron at her waist. But even as she looked she felt the feather touch of the webbing settle over her. Her words had, had no effect. They were cocooning her. Either they were ignoring her words or the Hedron had been unable to translate properly. Panic rose up, but she was able to quash it down. No matter. She would not give in to despair. Her voice was her only skill and she would continue to use it until her mouth was gagged. Eventually she would get through to them.

As she opened her mouth to speak to whatever was behind her, there was an explosive retort somewhere below her, followed by a horrible squelching sound. Something else was falling on her now. Something thicker, and decidedly more liquid. Something which was dripping down her cheeks, pooling around her neck and splattering on her forearms. In an instant realisation kicked in. It was the creatures blood. She was covered in its.......

All other thought leaving her, she jerked and struggled, pulling with all her strength. But the web held her still, only shaking from side to side as she shifted her weight.

Na'no's eyes were focused on the moving spider. For a long time Na’No does nothing than following the one creatures movement. Her hands were ready to shoot, the control panel keeps blinking and the weapon followed its prescribed path. Besides to all that trouble and things that happens right before Na‘Nos eyes, she keeps concentrate. The creature next to Vra‘Fa... Na‘No forced herself to not loose eye contact. Tsch... a sound came from the TX weapon. Na‘No clearly missed the creature as it still was moving on the web. Her eyes wandered in panic over to her drone. Ar‘Tol tries to fly but nothing happens besides little wiggles.]

Round 5
Floating Forrest - Midday

The first spider to descend, the one that had duelled with Elanro, moved back to assist its brethren. It pushed Vra'fa from the botto as the other arachnid - the terribly wounded one - continued to pull it up the rope.

Elanro holsters his pistol and grabs his rifle. Why do these guns always jam at the worse moment. You couldnt be too violent with the weapons though; if he dropped it it would just start acting out more.

The wounded arachnid moves up. Its screeches of pain had stopped. It seemed to move on muscle memory alone now. Vra'fa dragged helplessly behind it. Soon it would be back among the floating trees. Soon, the brood would eat.  (Vra'fa has one more round before she disappears)

+++

He tracked the beasts with his rifles sight as they dragged Vra'fa to her doom. Gorthrax would have preferred to get up close, this was too risky; it would be to easy for a stray shot to burst the Tau's head open. He tried not to think about that, it was distracting.

He inhaled held it then exhaled again and... Vra'fa broke free. Two rapid cracks of his rifle rang out but at the same moment the Tau's sudden freedom caused the arachnids to jerk forward at the sudden lack of weight.

"Pak'na" Gorthrax cursed at his poor luck as his shots hit the space the beasts had just vacated.

The blood drips slowly crawled down her face. One came to the edge of her tightly pressed lips and she could taste... For a second her heart felt like it was going to burst through her ribs and her vision went dark. She was falling...

Closing her vision-less eyes, she began to chant to herself.
"Por pok du'a daryo, pok du'a demlok, pok du'a rak. Soh du'oc muk'xux'ten'grii. Ho na. Ho na"
(Water flows down the river, flows down the gorge, flows down into the sea. Water vapour rises up into the eternal blue sky. And the rain, rains heavily. And the rain, rains heavily.)
She concentrated on the bright blue liquid which gently twirled and rotated deep inside her. And she felt herself calm again. All life was part of the cycle. She just needed to flow to the next part of her journey.

Opening her eyes again she noticed that she was being moved by one of the creatures. Perhaps it was due to her calmer state, that she was no longer panicking, but she noticed that she was no longer as restricted as prior. She might still be encased in some of the webbing but she was actually able to move her limbs. Twisting her head to look she saw she was being pushed up the web by two of the creatures long and hairy front legs. Briefly her stomach twisted but she focused again on the image of a calmly flowing river and using it for inspiration twisted firmly to the right of its legs. For an infinitesimal second her roll hesitated on the edge of its leg, before she felt herself falling again.... And with a dull thump she impacted hard into the ground below. A sharp stabbing of pain shot through her and she would have cried out but all the air had been forced from her lungs following her fall. The only sound she made instead was a soft choking moan. Her head was pounding, stars flashing in her eyes and she wanted to get sick and gasp for breath at the same time. All her body felt aflame but her left arm was burning the worst. She had a horrible idea what this might mean but she didn't dare look yet. She had to move. She had to get away.

Nano saw the web moving until vrafa felt down. She was even more insecure about her shooting skills that she felt her mind beeing dizzy. With shaking hands nano aims for the closest enemy right away. After a short moment for concentration she fires another single shot which. The shot vanished.

With their prey gone and one of them horribly injured, the beasts have no reason to continue fighting. Their prey had escaped their trap. There would be more prey. They scurry up the web and disappear into the cover of the floating ecosystem above, a dark purple trail of blood dripping messily over the webbing and into a pool on the hard earth.

Potential Rolls:

While Vra'fa is injured, none of you are too worse for wear. From the rear of the TX5, Bok emerges, hobbling a bit. A shy whine turns into an angry growl as his kind wasn't prone to staying hurt without wanting vengeance for long.

The TX5 itself had functioning weapons systems, but whether or not it was travel worthy was another story. Of course, taking the fight to the arachnids was an option as well...

With the bugs leaving, Elanro took out his knife and started working to cut out Vra'Fa and the drones.

Well, that was certainly your baptism in blood kid!

He starts looking at the recovered webbing, testing it's strength and stickyness. He puts some in a small bag he pulls from his pack, hoping to see if the earth casters can do anything with it.

Hey, ah, Nano was it? Could you modify our lighting or sensors to better spot the webbing? Wouldnt want another crash like that.

Gorthrax remained vigilant using the adrenaline of battle while it lasted to stay on his toes. His rifle pans back and forth at the point where the arachnids had disappeared. Once he was satisfied that they were safe for now he put up his rifle, slinging its strap over his shoulder and securing it across his back.

Boks growling drew his attention, he was obviously injured although on his feet at least so he hoped it wasn't to serious. Although he wouldn't admit it he cared dearly for his hound, who had been there when no one else had. Mostly with un-judging eyes unless Gorthrax had forgotten to feed him. He knelt and gathered the hounds head in his clawed hands, stroking and soothing.

As Boks growling softened and turned to a whimper Gorthrax gently ran his hands along the hounds sides and limbs feeling for breaks or areas of tenderness.

Perhaps it was the heat of battle, or the need to feed his addiction, but Gorthrax isn't able to glean any new information from the animals they had just encountered.

With a little difficulty Vra'fa had sat up on the forest floor. Ignoring the dirt and the.... carnage covering her, she was most concerned with her left arm. Any attempt to move it was incredibly painful. Her first attempt had felt like a million separate stabbing pains and she had almost passed out. She had rocked in position, her vision foggy as someone came near. It was only when he spoke that she realized it was Elanro.
Looking up at the fuzzy globe of shadows that she guessed was his face she replied.
"Soh ho na du'a muk'xux'ten'grii. Xauk to Da'cova'ran? Korst'erra aiski no aiski Rak. Kisun'uxux kisun na Tau pok uyl'tau"
Moisture rains down heavily from the eternal blue sky. To create new life or the darkness that breaks the soul? The Shadow of Death hand in hand with the God of Sea. The intense blue blood of us flows through all the holy earth.

Her face grimaced for a second after this and then she gave him a wan smile.
"As bad as this 'baptism', as you call it has been, I am glad all the others are uninjured and we have escaped relatively easily. Thank you for releasing Hui'lala from its bonds, I was barely capable of freeing myself, let alone it."

Looking back down at her arm, she realized she would have to do something about it. Currently it was resting along her lap, but that could not continue for much longer. With her free right arm she reached down to the hem of her robe. Despite her occasional efforts, the edges of it were a little frayed and it was relatively easy for her to tear a strip free from it. While it left her robe looking unbalanced (the front longer than the back) she was able to use it to fashion a crude sling around her neck to rest her left arm. The most difficult aspect of it was moving her arm. At one point, the pain was such that she bit into her lip and her mouth was filled with a metallic taste. Clenching her free fist, she ignored what this might mean and finished arranging her arm and then lay back on the ground, breathing like a bellows.

After regaining herself somewhat, she sat up, and with extreme care slowly got back to her feet. The dizzyness wasn't as bad as she expected, though she did feel a trifle unsteady.
Turning to the Earth Caste she asked.
"Na'no, do you need any assistance with repairing the Piranha?"
She was hoping for work. Anything to help distract her mind from her arm.

Uyl'Tau- Holy Earth

Na'no takes a moment to run some diagnostic scans on the webbing. It is nearly translucent, even when wrapped in layers. Mixed with its strength, it was no wonder that it stopped the TX5 dead in its tracks.

Uploading the data in the TX5 is no problem. The entire process takes no longer than fifteen minutes.

Elanro walked up to the webbing, and spoke up:

Eh, Gorthrax was it, come and give me a hand. I wanna see how the critters anchored their web. Clearly it's something solid, or it wouldnt have stopped us, but I want to see how they compensate for the movement of their floating forest.

Elanro started digging around the base of the webbing, searching for the anchor points.

Ya ever hunted critters like this? I've mostly fought with Orks, and they never like to retreat. Depending on how large these webs get, there could be a goodly amount.
