Slythe nods. He knew he would be walking into an ambush, but he hoped that the sudden ferocity would turn the tide.

He moves fast, considering his bulk. The water seemed to slow him down little; indeed, he moved through the cold damp like an alligator pouncing on an unsuspecting warm blood at a river bank.

He gives a feral hiss, anything he could use to gain an edge would be utilized.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyFri Aug 17, 2018 1:17 am

As Slythe rushes forwards two skaven move out of the shadows of the closest Stalagmites to meet him, armed with hooked swords and battered shields they have hatred in their eyes for the Saurian. The rest of the chamber remains silent for now and only illuminated by Serestre's glowing staff which casts long shadows up the walls from the ledges and across the floor and ceiling from the stalagmites and stalactites.

Slythe charges the first visible skaven who dared show its scrunched rat face.

He held the celestite weapon overhead for a devastating blow to the creatures head.

Swinging down, the weapon bounces off a protruding chunk of stalagmite and diverts the blow harmlessly to the left.

"I Ssssshal enjoy killing you like I killed you clan-matessssss" he goads

Valgard charged after Slythe with a roar, axe raised high. He brings the axe down with shattering force against the skaven. The rat was fully focused on the big saurian and only caught sight of Valgards attack in the last moment, with a screech it tries to leap to the side but the axe catches its left shoulder. The power of the blow splitting the skaven in two in a shower of gore and viscera. The other skaven leaps at Slythe its hooked sword stabbing, but the skaven misjudged its reach so its swords edges falls short of its mark by a few inches.

From the back of the cavern the familiar voice of the Grey Seer echos off the walls of the cavern "Fool-foolish surface dwellersss, leavesss the box box and I letzzz you livessss."

As he speaks a large shadow looms in far exit and two more skaven step out from behind the salagmites and start to move in on Valgard and Slythe.

Victoria moved slowly while the rest of the group pushed forward, her world had reduced to a tunnel that started at her crossbow and ended at whatever shadow her eyes were trying to pierce at the moment. Then she saw it, something in the dark, faintly iluminated by the lightning conjured by the elf. Her finger twitched before she could even think. All was gone in a blink, the light, and whatever she believed to see. Only the sound of the bolt bouncing off the stone remained. That and her shame... time for the blades then.

Reginald ran forward, torch in hand and shield in the other, making himself a target. If there were skaven hiding in the dark, he would draw them out. He trusted his armor to hold off their weak blows. He hoped anyways.

Serestre needed to find cover, but keep herself as close to her allies as possible. They needed to receive the blessed light of Shallya, should they end up taking any wounds from the wretched ratkin. She moves with purpose towards one of the stalagmites, unsure of what to do next to help out their situation. Perhaps, in a short time, Shallya would guide her.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyWed Aug 22, 2018 12:54 am

Slythe wouldn't stop until they ran in terror or they were dead. He swings horizontally at the willy rat.
The swing was mid-waist for the rat, hitting in solidly in its ribs. The sound of cracking bone was music to the saurus' ear-holes
"Hold sssstill vermin and I'll make this quicker for you." he snarled.

Daemaer sat quietly as the others charged foward, focusing and watching for the first sign of an enemy.
As the rats suddenly appeared he tried to release the pent up energy, but the winds suddenly left him.
Cursing under his breath, he once again quickly focuses, picturing the target in his mind and eye and releases a bright bolt of lightening towards the targets. The bolt hits the target and then arcs to the other rat close by they twitch and their fur smokes but they remain standing.

Valgard watched as Reginald ran past him with his guard up. He'd seen his brother like this many a time, and Valgard knew to back him up before he got in too deep. Snapping his head to see Slythe land a blow on the Skaven was all the assurance he needed that the fight there was handled. After the two quick looks, Valgard gripped his axe, knuckles white, and charged into the fray.

Greeted by two skaven, he swung at head level, hoping to claim a trophy from the distracted rats. The skaven was more prepared than Valgards last victim so the rat ducks down, the axe goes whistling harmlessly over head.

From the darkness of the far exit steps a massively over-muscled Skaven standing some 10 feet tall at the shoulder, it is grossly misshapen. It stomps forward and lets out a deafening screech at its foes before it.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Enemy_rat_ogre

As the Rat Ogre makes itself known another foe drops out of the darkness from the ceiling and lands next to Victoria and Daemaer. The skaven is covered head to toe in black garb, with only its red eyes visible behind its mask, it wields two daggers which it uses to slash at Daemaer as it lands [Reaction from Daemaer]

The two skaven around Valgard seem emboldened by the presence of the giant rat and lash out at the dwarf with abandon, both of their blades find there mark.

Serestre did her best not to flat out run out of the cave at the sight of the giant vermin before her. She steels herself, doing her best to shield her eyes from the monstrosity. Valgard was in trouble, and she knew it. Her blessed Shallya whispered it in her ear. With nerves nearly broken, the priestess says a quick prayer to herself, steels her nerves, and rushes forward, eager to help her new compatriots in any way possible.

Upon reaching him, she slides out of the way of one axe slash, and then another, before lightly pressing her hand upon his shoulder and filling him with the light of her patron goddess.

"May the light fill you, Valgard. Today is not your day to fall."

As soon as the giant rumbled out, Reginald knew it had to be put down before it could do much damage. He rushed forward with a holler and slammed his torch into the creature.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyFri Aug 31, 2018 11:51 am

The giant monstrosity set Slythe's scales alight. He needed to take care of the small rats so the others could consolidate on the giant abomination.
He also hated the idea, he did not want to get close to that thing.
It was doubtful he could win unscathed.
"Kill the sssssmall ones firsssssst, then we kill the big one." he hisses as he attacks the one standing beneath him.

A clubbing, downward swing ended the resistance the skavens skulls spilts like a melon smashed against the floor.

Daemaer feels something behind him as the rat drops from the ceiling. Trying to dodge he rolls out of the way, and spins around thrusting his hand out with a mutter of arcane words. The spell has no effect but the skavens eyes narrows at Daemaer as the elf evades its attacks.

Valgard's breathing slowed as the daggers sunk into his flesh. This might be it... Torduz, Gotrek, I hope you're watching. He thought as he readied another attack. One more kill. He thought as he raised his axe. He sputtered at the pain that shot through him, but pressed on.

As he began to realize how close to death he really was, he steeled himself to protect his brother. Then a warm touched soothed his wounds, and he looked back at Serestre with wide eyes. "Do ya feckin' no what I am? Do ya get my mission? Me purpose? What in Grimnir's soggy balls got you thinking I wanted your 'blessings?' Don't you ever touch me again." He looked back at the Skaven with a fury burning in his eyes. He let out a loud battlecry as he shoved at the Skaven and brought his axe down on the creature once more. The skaven had become wise to Valgards hefty blows and skitters out of harms reach.

The skaven screech and hiss as they attack. The two on Valgard circle the beleaguered dwarf, their blades stabbing and slashing testing at his defences [Reaction from Valgard].

Two daggers with an unhealthy sheen stab at Daemaer, the assassins beady red eyes focused on taking the mage down as quickly as possible [Reaction from Daemaer]

With its four inch dirty talons with the weight of a ten foot beast, the Rat Ogres roars at Reginald as it attacks. Reginald put up his shield just in time to soak a massive blow from the ogre, despite the parry for force of the blow still reverberates trough the dwarf. He quickly dropped the torch and pulled his warhammer. He wasted no time smashing it into the chest of the beast.

The Seer had waited to see how the battle unfolded, he saw the advantage the Eshin assassin had over the mage so if they could quickly secure the rear... the seer steps forward on his rocky ledge at the back of the cavern some three metres up. Grinding a small amount of warp stone dust beneath his fingers, he then blows it towards the magi's companion.

A sharp pain in Victoria's mind threatens to spill out and overwhelm her body, but a quick prayer to Sigmar holds her steady, the spell of the seer pushed to one side. She would do her father proud and aims a stab with her rapier at the Eshin assassin, but unfortunately the blow only snags in the skavens armour.

Serestre was torn between who to help, Daemaer she was sure had been wounded and Valgard needed further care which she would give despite his protestations that he didn't want Shallya's blessings. But it was Reginald who she thought needed her touch the most, but it would be hard to get close to the dangerous combat. With one hand on her medallion she tries to reach out, all she needed was the briefest of touches but the deadly rat ogre as it barreled about as it laid into the dwarf kept her at bay.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyMon Sep 10, 2018 12:45 am

Daemaer grunts at the impact. He really needed to get his armor up first...

With a muttered word and a flash of light, a shimmering ethereal surrounds his body.

"A little help here!"

He slowly starts to back away from the rat

Slythe heard the call for help from Daemer.
He decides to take stock before he assists.
Reginald was keeping the ogre back, Valgard was dealing with 2 little runts, while victoria dna Daemer were dealing with one behind him.

He briefly wondered how one managed to get behind him.

Without any more delay, he rushed towards victoria and Daemer, hopefully he could free those two and then they could more easily take the rest down.
He wanted most for the ogre to die, but wasn't convinced he and Regianld could go it alone.

He charged into the assassin without any roars or cries. The Assassin noticed him at the last second and tried to leap out of the way, but it was too late. Slythe hit him hard, leading the way with the butt of the celestite weapon and using his inertial bulk to carry a bludgeoning blow to the assassin's face.

Valgard was getting more and more angered at the slippery rats. He swung and swung again at the creatures while yelling obscenities at the rats. He was getting more frantic to finish off these creatures so he could assist his brother, worried that the ogre may prove too much for the runesmith. Valgards ferocity proved to much for the skaven on his right, catching it midriff and almost cleaving it in two.

The Rat Ogre swings wildly with both claws, it was fortunate for Reginald that the beast wasn’t more considered in its attacks as what it lacked in finesse it more than made up for in strength. Some of the wild swings land but the combination of armour and Reginalds resilience see them off.

Seeing its death in the dwarves axe the skaven frantically lashes out at Valgard catching him on his arm opening up another gash.

The Eshin assassin was ever resourceful, it needed to even the odds and quickly. While keeping a blade up in defense a flick of its other wrist sends a small green orb smashing against the rock. Green smoke quickly fills the area the sickly foul smell quickly overwhelms Victoria who reels away choking heavily.

The seer cast his gaze over the battlefield, subtle shifts in luck had turned the fight against him now the saurian had free range of the battlefield. His eyes narrowed at the dwarves and the human priest. The stinkin’ dwarves had some resistant to magic, the female however… he hissed and spat as foul words passed his lips, green lightning starts to coalesce around his hands which then fails “Curse curse you all all I shall” the seer yells in annoyance.

Reginald felt the claws nip at the armor of his helm and tear at his immaculate beard. In a furor, he swung again. While he connected, the angle wasn't as good as before. This was turning out to be a swinging match. He hoped he could outlast the beast. Reginald's hammer whacks against the Rat Ogre in barely notices as the hammer slams into its side.

Serestre was taken aback by the hatred and loathing in Valgard's voice. She had only tried to help him. Shallya had done her work effectively as well, seeing as the dwarf could now continue his fighting. His insistence on dying went against everything Serestre was trying to do in order to help their team. Looking better than he had a second before, she turns to find her next patient. She wasn't leaving due to some spiteful attitude towards Valgard...but that she needed to help the rest of the team.

She moves towards the thick of the fighting, where Reginald is located, trading blows with the ugliest creature that Serestre had ever laid eyes on. She reaches up and gently places her hand on his back, letting the warmth of Shallya flow through him and bring him back to hopefully his fighting best.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyFri Sep 14, 2018 1:40 am

The purple smoke fumes rankled at Slythe's nostril sockets. Whatever it was, it was meant to weaken and disorient, allowing the lithe rat to strike a more decisive blow.
He wasn't having any of it. He attacks with a jabbing motion to throw the caped rat off balance.

He missed! Maybe the gas had affected him after all?

Daemaer coughs and waves his hand in front of his face, clearing the green gas.

"Try again rat."

With a quick word he aims a magic dart into the rat. The assassin was wise to the ways of wizards had had no trouble slipping to one side.

Valgard looked to the second skaven with a smile, pulling his blood-soaked axe from the recently living skaven. "Yer next... He said as he swung the axe at his opponent. Still, he swallowed his worry that Reginald wouldn't be able to handle the ogre, just hang in a moment longer Reg. he thought as he focused on the fight once more. His axe sunk into the skavens belly lifting it up from the floor and sending it flying a few metres, it lands in a lump and remains still.

The assassin sneered at its foes disappointed in their resilience, its time was likely up with its chance at escape gone as the vile green smoke dissipates. The huddled form of the choking woman-thing was a target to sweet to let go, stabbing he plunges one of his blades into her leg. The poison would soon go to work.

The Rat Ogre roars at Reginald frustrated that the dwarf hadn't died yet as it launches another sweeping attack. Reginald deflected the blow with his shield and responded in kind, this time hitting the beast in its leg. The beast hardly registers the blow.

The seer gathers green lighting yet again as it spits out the cursed words of it casting, as he reaches a crescendo the lightning sparks and zaps out towards Serestre. She felt the full power of the attack on her, tasting blood in her mouth as she did her best to recover from it. She kept herself close to Reginald, trying to position herself out of harms way. A dead healer couldn't do much healing at all. Calling upon Shallya once again, she asks for protection in a hushed tone, eager to see this fight ended.

Slythe hisses, "Whatssss wrong? Hesssss focussssed on me. Sssstrike him now!"
He makes a clumsy attempt to fake out the assassin, but in doing so he overcommits and his actual attck fails as the skaven dodged the fake out.

Daemaer moved back a few more steps and harnessed the winds once again.

"Dodge this"

Black tendrils reached out from his hand, wrapping around the rats leg and withering it. The agile skaven manages stop itself from falling, despite the saurian joining the fray and taunting it it still considered the magi the more dangerous foe. The assassin lashes out at Daemaer as it wobbles, but both blades are turned aside by the shimmering shield around the elf.

Having slain the lackeys, Valgard turned with a smile to the Ogre. "Yer time is now bastard!" He yelled as he rushed without a thought to his brother's aid. The grip on his axe turned his knuckles white as he rushed toward the creature. Leaping from the ground, Valgard whirled the axe into the creature's side with a cry.

The rat ogre roars as Valgards axe bite deep causing its swing at Reginald to go wide. The beast maneuvers around to bring the two dwarfs into its focus.

The fight had fully turned and Khrikik wanted to ensure he lived to retrieve the artifact another day. It was like a beacon to the skaven, it would not be hard to find. As nimble as a rat the seer scales down from its perch.

Reginald was able to get a much cleaner swing in now that his brother had joined the fray. He yells to no one in particular. "Don't let the Seer escape!"

Serestre looks to the Seer at Reginalds plea; she assumed that wasn't in anyway directed at her. She then glances back at her companions and saw some were in need of her aid. Turning her back on the Rat Ogre and the skaven seer Serestre clasps her holy symbol and heads towards those fighting the assassin.

PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyThu Oct 04, 2018 1:51 am

Daemaer grinned as the rats attacks bounced harmlessly off his glowing armor.

"Not again rat."

He opens his hand and fires a bolt of magic into the rats chest finishing it off.

Slythe nods in approval towards the skink-like Daemer.
Now was the time for the true challenge, the orge.
Slythe could see it was already wounded, now was the time to crush its skull out.

He charges towards the fray, now they would pay.

Valgard gave another cry as he hacked away at the ogre. "Daemaer the Seer! Leave the ogre ta us!" He cries out to the elf. For the first time, Valgard trusted the elf over anyone else. The realization thereof made him audibly scoff. Magic was still less reliable and more chaotic than simple steel, a choice that would no doubt bring their deaths at some point.

The rat ogre roared in pain as Slythe and Valgard hacked at it, it should have died instantly but that information hadn't yet reached the beasts small brain. It stumbles and takes a few 'weak' strikes at Reginald which are easily deflected by his shield before crumbling to the floor in a heap.

The Seer looks on incredulously as his carefully laid ambush proves ineffective. He starts to back away as eyes turn to him.

"I curse curse you. Wes shall findss you-you" continuing to back up the seer empties the contents of a small pouch into its mouth, as he does so its eyes take on an unhealthy green glow. He points at Valgard and spits out some incomprehensible words "Gakthraxzr giminonisss zarzz."

As the ogre went into its death throes, Reginald looked to the Seer he had targeted before. He quickly dropped his warhammer to the ground and pulled his crossbow. He didn't have time to level it properly, and as a result fired too soon. The bolt misses its mark by a hair.

"Grugni's beard!" he curses loudly.

Serestre was certain the battle was almost over, much to her satisfaction. She was afraid, if she was being honest, and she was eager to be done with this. She needed Shallya's grace to get her and the others through to the end of it all. She says a small prayer as she follows Reginald. Her patron goddess must have been listening, for she began to feel slightly more courageous in the face of all that was happening. Plus, having the dwarf by her side made her feel all the more comfortable.

Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Death in the Mountains - IC   Death in the Mountains - IC - Page 9 EmptyThu Oct 11, 2018 2:54 am

For a moment, Valgard's mind begins to become hazy. He didn't know what was happening, but he Dropped the haft of his axe on his toes, the pain shot him out of his delirium. Valgard chuckles a deep, raspy chuckle at the Seer, who's only contribution to the fight was talk. He coughs a few times then spits red on the ogre, "Ya can keep comin, but I'm na gonna die ta nasty rat things. Besides, who's gonna tell yer boss ya failed?" Valgard grips his axe with both hands and let's out another bellowing warcry as he runs down the Seer, set on planting his axe firmly between its eyes.

With the Rat Ogre dead, there was only one opponent left. Slythe recognized the grey seer who had eluded them the first time. There would not be a repeat.

"Kill the mage." he says as he moves and prepares to charge the seer when the opportunity arose.

The seer was no warrior but he saw an opportunity as dwarf-thing and lizard-thing close in. Side stepping the troll slayers telegraphed swing the Seer locks eyes with Daemaer.

Daemaer turned toward the commotion and shouting and saw the rat seer darting towards him. With a grin he summons the winds points his finger at the rat, and with a flash a bolt of lightning flashes towards it. As Daemaers lighting reaches out to the Seer a green lightning starts to spark and crackle around the skaven, as the lightning bolt touches the Seer he disappears with a small popping noise as the air rushes into his vacated space.

An instant later the Seer appears right behind Daemaer.

Reginald didn't concern himself with the Seer for the moment. It had flashed back behind the elf. Running to engage when it could just disappear again would do no good. He began winching the string back on his crossbow, getting it ready for another bolt.

Serestre knew the other dwarf was hurting badly, and that he wanted nothing to do with her or her healing arts. But the goodness in her, the priestess of Shallya in her, couldn't ignore it. She reaches out to fill him once again with the light of her goddess, but the warmth that normally comes easily is absent. She retracts her hand quickly, following behind the two dwarfs as they make their way forward.

Slythe was ready, he increases his speed in an attempt to barrel the weasly grey seer over.
"Sssskin-rat will meet hissss end today." he hissed as he charged forward.

Unfortunately, the Rat was more adept as being weaselly than Slythe was at bruising. He missed him, skidding to a halt, he turns and prepares to attack him by more conventional means.

Daemaer spins around, following the traces of the winds, and gracefully plants his feet, before summon the winds into a dart and spiking it towards the seer. THe magically dart is motly absorbed by the Seers magics although there is still a wince of pain from the seer.

The seer looks frantically around him and considers trying to escape, but it was important that Skaven didn't loose track of the box of again. Cowering from Slythe he weaves his magic once more spitting fell words at Valgard. Impending death, surrounded by enemies and the face of failure proved to many distractions, the seer trips over his words at the spells climax. His shoulders slump a little...

Valgard looked about for a minute before he caught the Seer's movement behind Daemaer. Without a thought he charged at the Seer, not wanting the party to take all the glorious kills. As he ran, he felt his mind being assaulted once more. Shaking it off, he yelled out to the seer "Keep yer magics to yerself!"

Reginald finished cranking back the string and pulled the enchanted bolt from his hard leather quiver and locked it into place. He watched the rest charge into battle. It would make the shot more difficult, so he took a breath and waited for opportunity to present itself.

Serestre saw that the battle was coming to a close. Perhaps she could end it with something less violent. Perhaps, they could get information instead of blood. She asks for the serenity of her patron god to calm the spitir of the seer. To let it know that it did not have to die, at least hopefully.

"I will calm this magic user...perhaps we can get some information from him rather than simply kill him. Grab him if he stops attacking!"

The seer cringes as the divine magic leeches it of its venom and hate. Despite that it now knew its only course of action was flight....

Slythe launched into a frenzy of blows, all designed to throw the opponent off balance. In doing so he would leave himself open to counter attack, but he judged it a worthwhile risk. It was only too bad his blows were absolutely useless.

In the last stretch of his run, Valgard raised his axe overhead and let out a cry he meant to finish the battle. He rushed down the seer, hoping to claim another glorious kill. Surrounded by so many foes the seer had little chance; it barely saw the dwarf's axe which cleaved it from neck to groin.
