As for Lucius, if Khol's target is still alive after the scout's shot, Lucius will fire on him. If Khol kills her, then Lucius will charge into the second target to initiate a grapple.

Combat is done on the wastes. Its difficult to find the balance between a challenge and overkill.

All appeared quiet, perhaps the initial activity at the secondary locations had been registered as the giant xeno moved in. Albrecht was about to turn away to assist his brothers when something caught his eye.

There were six black armoured vehicles moving in at speed, possibly a minute or so away. Albrecht had wondered what had been keeping the ecclesiarchy...

"Brother Cassiel, we have six ecclesiarchy vehicles heading into our position from my vector. ETA one minute." there was a brief pause in the squad wide vox as Albrecht considered something "There might be more coming in from the other location venerable Ambrose reported."

He had a minute, plenty of time to bring the Emperors righteous fury to the xeno filth. Turning Albrecht boosts back towards the kill team.

IC: Lucius took some small satisfaction at not having to waste a sacred bolt round on such a worthless foe. He turned just in time to see Khol, flanked by two tangos, pull his pistol and eliminate another. That left one threat. He gave his jump pack a quick burst and collided with the remaining assassin, wrapping her in a tight, non-lethal embrace with his free hand.

"Enough! The fight is over." he commanded.


Not sure if I can do this, or if it will even have any affect on this frenzied asshole, but: Command vs 75 Natural fucking 1/9 DoS

Command is not going to affect a frenzied enemy. They wont listen to reason from an opponent. Your going to have to fatigue them down and end the frenzy first.

Now its her turn. She's going to try and escape the grapple, (she does have acrobatics)

3 dof, now RAW has it as if its a pass, she escapes. I think this should be an opposed test if she can pass. So you maintain the grapple for now. I need to figure out what she would test against. And your size difference would give you a +10 to the opposed test. Im thinking WS.

Caedite is a bit rattled by avoiding the deathspitter blast. He's going to rush for cover.

Seeing one of the guardsman under threat, he debated inside himself. He could save him, but failing to stop the monster would kill thousands. Using his powerful fist, he put all his weight striking the monstrous creature.

I think it should be strength. She is trying to agile her way out of Lucius' grasp. He is trying to hold her tight enough so she can't. This might seem like an unfair advantage, but it should be because she is being bear hugged by a Space Marine. Hard to get out of that. I don't care how fucking flexible you are.

Jumping ahead so I'm not keeping anyone waiting:

Cassiel opens up all communication channels including speakers. "Micah, share the danger with your men by getting them to a safe position. We'll hold the enemy in the courtyard. We have armored reinforcements moving in fast - get ready to hold the interior spaces. We'll keep them off you."

Trying to prove his words, Cassiel trains his heavy bolter on the Ravener threatening mag in the Heavy Stubber.

Bleda will delay so as to be ready to protect the Ironbound if some Xenos would attack him, by essentially steeping in and take the attack on himself.

And he adress the Ironbound curtly.

"Curse or hate as you wish. But you will live this day."

Action: Delay (with half action ready to either "take a bullet" for Ironbound or follow after Ironbound if no attack would come before Bleda's turn. Actually when Ironbound moves away, Bleda may well follow so as to protect the Ironbound for oppertunistic shots into Ironbound's back).

Seraphan quickly grabs the weapons, the load nothing to his enhanced genome augmented with Astartes battleplate and quickly exits the munitions dump, weapons more suited to their situation in hand, activating the winged jump pack he flies forth quickly assessing the situation, Cassiel's order to converge on the stubber in his mind he decides to get as many bodies there az possible and lands by the guardsman hunkered down from the Ravenors staring down the beast.

"Quickly take what you can of the launchers and join your comrades" with his free hand the Blood Angel draws his chainsword staring at the Xenos beast "I will keep it's attention." He revs the chainsword as he finishes speaking, standing tall making himself the threat to the beast.

For what it's worth:

I'd like to find out if the Cardinal is working for the same team as us. If our mission is largely the same, I'd be willing to consider letting them ride with us. Two teams given the same mission?

If his mission is incompatible with ours (he needs Ironbound for something else), we're not handing him over. Rather than fighting them out, I'm willing considering taking Ironbound as a hostage and threatening to kill him - at least, assuming the Cardinal needs him alive. In a footrace, I think our team can be faster.

Of course, if the Imperial Guard shows up, I think we've won some friends there by directly helping in a way that the Cardinal ABSOLUTELY DID NOT. So let's keep him talking as long as possible to see if having 400 Lehman Russ tanks and a couple of infantry divisions makes him a little more polite.

You are a bit of a ways off. If you wanna get closer you will have to start making stealth tests.

Something else to consider is that your directly behind all this. The vehicles are directly in front of you and the sisters ahead of that. So you can try to sneak up to all this or head around to get a clear shot.

In fact, no one has told you anything ic. You only know that the Cardinals forces are here and no one is shooting.

If Aaron has difficulty posting, Khol - a raptor - taking shots on unaware targets, or at the very least targets who have very difficult dodge tests because they can't locate him - is not a bad idea. In fact, he is the one most likely to get close enough to do it.

Heath, I pictured this entire district as a maze of dilapidated ruins of former habs. Surely there is a location to gain the high ground and thus negate the fact that the cardinal's forces have armor between the soft targets. No?

Besides that, I don't think Lucius needs to think that Draco is under attack to be cautious and get sights on whomever is confronting Draco. He has just been attacked by Imperial agents, he knows the forces ahead of him aren't Donovan's, and he knows that the Cardinal has the same objective as Draco which could force them into a confrontation.

Any upper hand for Draco in this situation is what he will take. Having said that, if anyone wants to actually fill him in IC... that would be fantastic.

I feel really stupid for not doing this before but I cast reading, twice, first on the Ironbound and then on the Cardinal. Both times I'm casting it as Fettered.

Just as a head's up, Gurk, when you write that out it is better to put the number you want to beat last.

Ex: 10 vs 57, rather than 57 vs 10. The first number is usually the read as the one you rolled.

This is happening just outside of the mining outpost, which itself is like a free standing collection of buildings around a few dirt roads. Think tiny French villages circa WW2 with better buildings.

The conversation is taking place ~15m outside the fortifications. You and Khol, coming from behind, have the convoy between you and any form of real cover.

Khol has brought no mid range weapons. Hes only got shotguns and bolt pistols. Granted he should have some solo mode abilities or something that will remove long shot penalties.

You dont have reason to think they are under attack.

OK that visual helps. Thank you.

Again, I am not saying Lucius has reason to think they are under attack. What I said was in fact just the opposite. However, Lucius has enough common sense to know:

1) Those vehicles are not Donovan's men.
2) The Cardinal's forces are also after Ironbound - Draco's, and thus Lucius', main priority.
3) Imperial Assassin's just tried to kill him and Khol.

That is more than enough reason to attempt to gain a bead on any targets other than Draco at the mining facility.

What is frustrating for me currently is the lack of player-to-player RP right now. I get that everyone is eager to have another fight, but keeping the two PCs outside of the mining facility in the know would go a long way in facilitating roleplay opportunities outside of another combat starting.

Equally frustrating is that the IC within the mining post is being kept up while Lucius and Khol just kind of wait around with their dicks in their hands.

So since I am already in a "fuck it" kind of mood, I will dispense with attempting to keep up any sort of narrative.

I get the frustration of not being on hand to participate in what could be some pretty awesome RP.

We know that Lucius/Khol had their thing BEFORE the fight at the compound, so it seems to me that they should be arriving momentarily. Also the whole Cardinal demanding Ironbound sort of happened before we had any chance to talk INTERNALLY IC, between ourselves or with Micah. With the Cardinal listening to everything we say, I don't feel like we can say the things we WANT to. Cassiel is a little pissed that he showed up after we had things well in hand but shot a few rockets and can claim he 'drove off the enemy'. But hey, let's be honest - Cassiel would have thought he was a dick even if that didn't happen.

From an OOC perspective, how much discussion can we have about what we'd want to do as a group? I'm trying not to metagame too much, but I do want to find out what each player wants to do and how they'd prefer to handle it, but I don't feel like I can ask IC.

That's a really good question.

I am of the mind that we should do everything in our power to complete our mission and not fire without being fired upon; if they do make a threatening move then we kill as many as we need to until they realize they cannot sustain the losses. Because of this, I would like to keep Lucius (if possible) and at the very least Khol as flanking/surprise elements.

I really like the idea of handing over Caedite in place of Micah.

Also, Lucius should be getting some intel momentarily from the assassin he consumed. That might change how we approach the situation.

I'm laughing to myself as I imagine Lucius learning that we're handing over Ironbound over the vox and not knowing the game we're playing.  Even if this works, Cassiel might not survive...  Smile

Edit - One thing I'm really curious about is whether the Cardinal had better intel than we did. I don't think he knows what Ironbound looks like, nor do I think he knows Ironbounds real name. Even if he does, I doubt he has the technology on site to completely verify it. If he knows who Ironbound is (and face it, we're just trusting the guy who said, 'yeah? That's me') I'm going to have some questions.

Anything Mak could potentially do on the comms to contact our own Inquisitor? Like possibly to see what is going on right now behind the scenes that we might not be aware of? I am a little behind on posting and what not, but I am just throwing something out there to try. It seems like we have lots of opposing Inquisitors or at least elements within the Inquisition (although I could be mistaken) and we haven't really had anything to go on from our own for quite some time, right?

Could Mak be of any use in this realm of thought?

Use the Comms tower. Give it a go. You dont even have to be in the thing anymore, just use it to patch through.

Failure would have been 1 corruption. Nothing major really and you passed in any case and no one really has any.

Chapter Ability allows Lucius to test any lore a number of times equal to rank per session. He gets a further +10 if he is already trained in it. Since I have used it all of like... once, I would say I am good to go. So:

So, Azza killed that roll. Lucius will stay quiet for now. I think I said it before, but to reiterate, he will not move into engagement range yet. I would like him to be at the best possible range to currently avoid detection but also be in a position to make contact within one round of combat time.

Ok. The mission is done as far as objectives go. Im enjoying the IC going on here and dont wanna cheat you out by railroading us through it.

Here is your final objectives tally
Primary:
Locate and evacuate Ironbound from Castobel - COMPLETE
Secondary:
Keep Brother Ambrose from taking permanent Damage or dying - COMPLETE
Tertiary:
Cassiel's hidden objective - FAILED
Slay a synapse creature (Marius Avinicus objective) - COMPLETE
Ensure all landing zones are taken successfully - COMPLETE

Objective based XP is 825. With the time we put into this, Effort and all that, Plus the always excellent RP, We will be sitting pretty at total of 2000xp. ive already added this to PC sheets.
Renown wise, you get 1 for the primary, 1 for the secondary, 2 for the veteran ones, and 1 because I give a fuck. Extra 1 for Hydrako and Lucius, who think no helmets is cool (and I agree).
You did miss out on 2 because Cassiel did not complete his secret objective, and Cass himself missed out on 3. That will have some personal ramifications on down the line Twisted Evil

Im looking at the renown, there is a gap between those who were there on the first mission and those who have come in later. Khol and Albrect excluded. As promised, they will get bonus and will eventually be caught up (to avoid a serious gap between the new and the old)
Cassiel will get an extra 5, putting him at 35
Bleda gets 5, putting him at 30
Some of you are now distinguished.

@Wendigo, I can know give you some final numbers for Sapiens, Your XP is total 26,500, and renown is 30. I thank you for playing the pain-in-the-ass dreadnought. (I didnt alter your PC sheet yet.)

And, if you guys would be so kind, I would like some feedback on what you thought of the mission? I know there were some parts that were more fact finding focused than expected. I was trying to do something this time that wasn't just straight combat. I was trying to open up the game a bit and inject some more intrigue elements into the game (much of which isn't even there yet).
Did it work? Too boring? More Leroy Jenkins?

I already have the next mission mapped and the one after that as well. We are going to flow into the next one so the more IC we get done, the quicker it happens.
I can tell you that your requisition for the next mission is 75. Don't need your choices now, but you can start to plan ahead, obviously your going to want to hear the mission details first.
