Hey, Bob I think this game could benefit from a new thread for maps, NPCs, locations, etc. That way we won't lose anything that has been posted in the IC or OOC as we progress and the page number starts to grow.

This would also be a good place to collate what the team as a whole knows about individuals and places, etc.

Good call friend. I'll set it that up sometime this weekend and put all "public" information in there - ie everything that the whole party knows at this point, maps, NPC names and brief bios, maybe a link to DL the audio file for the transmission.

You notice the shrine is immaculately well maintained. While other rooms and equipment throughout the base seemed to be ill-maintained, broken, dusty, or in total disarray, the mechanical, machine shrine is perfectly clean and appears to be in fine working order.

You can see extra wear on the floor akin to what you see in the hallways - clearly this shrine is frequented often by someone or all of the members of the station.

Man, I wrote up a long ass thing about what I was doing and apparently it never got submitted. Fuck.

So, long story short, was going to try and have a look at the water treatment to see if it looked standard. Wanted to identify the odd taste in the water. Also was going to check out the greenhouse for relevant flora for medicae/drug production.

Don't have the rolls, but IIRC it was 5 degrees of failure on scrutiny of the water treatment and 1 degree of failure on my trade(chymist) roll for the greenhouse.

And a pithy comment about my inability to roll successfully for anything.

If this cogitator has info on Archaeotech or Beasts, Felyx gets a+20 on any FL Archaeotech/Beast tests made once he is inside due to "Master of Hidden Lores" trait.


As I see it, this test is to just gain communion with the spirits. Once inside, maybe security or the previously mentioned FL tests to gain any secrets. Sound good?

Theo - Just so Alistair knows, Felyx isn't ghosting him. I've purposely not had him come back into the bunk with everyone until the Shrine Room thing is resolved. That way he'll hopefully have some more intel.

But just so everyone can anticipate it, Felyx is not going to be convinced it is a good idea to go snooping about on night 1 when everyone's suspicions are at their highest of us. He may be convinced that if one single person/or two/ were stealthy enough they could pull something off.

Im holding onto "security" for if things get dire, but it is looking like that 7 DoS on communion is really letting the shrine know that Felyx is lubed up and ready to go.

I would also like to roll a Forbidden Lore Archaeotech while im in here, especially after the last IC about the ancient discovery etc etc.

It's very hard to accurately ID the vessel, since only a small portion of it is exposed. That said, the exposed portion does not look comparable to the lander.

Before security, I want to pull out the old Auspex and give the ship a good look over. It should be able to penetrate 50 cm of thickness and has a range of 50m. If I put it right up to the port, that should be good.

Awareness is fine, but if you have any specialty skills you feel would be applicable feel free to roll for those as well.

Remember everyone, I recommend just going ahead and rolling skill tests when you'd like to test for something; so long as you don't make any assumptions about the outcome of the roll it'll work. I'll tell you after the fact if I don't permit it for whatever reason, and that way it speeds up the game.

Well, I wasn't sure if I was going to walk around or not. People might disagree with me on actions. In that case, if, for example, I assumed a roll, then the team suggested that we stick together and I therefore didn't walk around. How would we play that?

Actual Roll: I could use survival or awareness, but unless there is modifers on one but not the other, the roll is the same. So;

My take would be that the group tells you not to go anywhere and then we ignore the roll.

So long as no one meta games with some BS like "oh well you failed the roll so let's stick together haha" we should be good. However even that might not be a great call, since I often give away some obvious info even on a failed awareness roll. But I digress.

At the end of the day just do whatever feels natural and like the best fit for you. Conversely, I don't want you fussing over orokos rolls if you have a suspicion they won't be relevant, so it's a balance and we're all guesstimating it. Sure it helps speed the game up but it's really not a big deal either way.

So, two things if possible. Firstly, I would like to examine the tracks. I'm looking to see what kind of creature made the tracks and what kind of direction they were heading. I probably can't get more information than that, but hopefully I can distinguish between a shoe and a claw.

Felyx notes that it does not match any design he is familiar with and estimates it is somewhere between 15-20k years old.

The biggest takeaway is that the barrier between the warp and real space is seriously compromised here and has been for a long time, although it seems to be somewhat cyclical in nature. The influence of the warp ebbs and flows...sometimes its strong, sometimes its more background noise. Either way, everything on the moon has become very tainted and corrupted. You can only imagine what months or years on this planet would do to a person...or a machine spirit.

You can also sense a large entity of some sort somewhere nearby. Its kind of like a hot and cold thing where you can tell when you're closer to it versus farther. It felt stronger at the base than it does here. The entity is like a big, open sore....its painful to be near it for Egill. Too far away at the moment to really try to ID it or learn more about it at the moment.

How do you feel about the pace of the mystery unraveling? Do y'all feel like you're getting somewhere?

Always tough to tell whether I'm being too stingy or not stingy enough with doling out clues, and I don't want you to feel like you're just poking around without getting anywhere. It's a tough balance and I always want it to take a little while but I'm hoping you're feeling a good sense of progression.

As I'm not doing psyniscience at the moment, is this bit more of a realisation of what I've previously sensed now I'm trying to think about what could cause such things?

All right, boss, what tests seem appropriate here?

Thinking another FL Archeotech now that we are in a new area, just to see what he knows from spending his time looking around. This would be the obvious that didn't require any actual busting out tools and mechanically or electronically getting into anything.

I am feeling Security as the obvious test to get into the cogitator and use its secrets per RAW.

Also, a Tech Use test to attempt repairs/restarts/reboots or determining how something unknown works.

With that in mind, what are we looking at for modifiers to those rolls?

FL archeotech: no modifier but I'd like you to spell out what exactly you're trying to deduce before you roll. Just to give me an idea of how to answer you because right now the only thing I can imagine that Felyx would be able to discern is "damn son this shits old AF"

Why don't you make a tech-use test, then a security test. tech use to actually get the cogitator to turn on and/or power it, then security to try to navigate to and access any data within the unit.

I'm presuming you have some plan in mind for actually powering the cogitator? I'm guessing you would need it to be powered to actually access any data it holds.

Tech-use: -30

Security: -10

How's that sound?

Trying to discern the functions of the various objects in the room. I am sure most of it would be obvious: helm, navigation center, main cogitator, weapons stations, etc. But being unknown archeotech, there may be some things totally alien to standard Imperial STC templates. That is the stuff he is really interested in.

If this is something that sounds doable, let me know. That would be worth spending a FP on and using one of my traits to auto succeed. If not, then I won't waste the FP.

Well, if he is re-starting things, I am assuming he would go about re-starting some source of power for the ship. Not reboosting the plasma engines, mind you, but definitely trying to get the engine's alternator running Wink. I've come across some "canon" (not a real thing since it changes always), but some of these old ships can run at very minimal life support for millenia. Maybe there's a tiny spark somewhere in this?

Jeff - I'm going to say you just go ahead and recognize all the functions of the devices. They're a little different and have unusual aesthetics to you, but they all seem to be only minor variations on STC templates that we know "today" in the 40k timeline. No need to roll, nothing that exciting here.

Per your rolls - the cogitator hums for a moment before slowly, lethargically flickering to life. With several minutes of tinkering (this thing is running veeery slowly - think internet explorer with AOL dial up internet, but worse), you manage to navigate your way through some interfaces (whether that's on the screen or in your neural cortex or whatever) and get to a "ships log" of sorts.

What are you looking to dig into first? Inventory, log of it's voyages, list of personnel, etc.?

It will take some time to parse through the info and get the unresponsive unit to dole out the info, so I'll do it piecemeal. I imagine millennia has not been kind to it, and it doesn't quite run like it used to.

Dude, Felyx will sit there until the sun in this sector dies. First things first - intel on the ship. Damn the mission, need to know everything about the ship - its name, make, year of creation, inventory, its mission, crew, and capabilities in comparison to what he knows of Imperial craft.

Before moving on, find out when the last time anything was accessed.

After that, scan and store journals and logs - looking for when, how, and why it landed on this shithole.

LASTLY... what he would need to do to bring online its various systems. Right now, most notably, onboard defenses. Smile BASE OF OPERATIONS FOR US, PEEPS?! I THINK SO.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but you notice plenty of fresh tracks. Some look like they've been there for a few months or longer, some look like they could've been anytime in the last week or a few days.
